  • Beyond 'Those Were The Days' aka Dorogoi Dlinnoyu, I have learned to like Russian music. So rich, so powerful, so emotional.

  • Sehr schoen!

  • Lotti's voice is so pale that you have to guess rather than hear it when the Russian choir joins in!

  • Luceros negros. An old Russian song, somewhat gypsy like.

  • russian folk music. i love it..so powerful. shows great pride and might and its soulfully deep

  • haha he lives in my street :p

  • @joelie80 You'd better get him out before he suffocates

  • What's the name of that tunic he is wearing? Would love to get one like it.

  • @Yoshi11583 you could google it.. just type russian clothing,or Rusian costumes in the seach area

  • @Yoshi11583 It looked like a Russian Navy pea coat called 'bushlat'. Saw it under Russian military uniforms. Cheers!

  • this isnt in russian. the stuff in the begining. its in some other language

  • @RiftHeals the stuff in the beginning is german, but the song is russian

  • Otschi Tschornije Dark Eyes

  • No, not sad am I, nor so mad am I;

All my comforts lie in my destiny.

Just to realise my life’s worthiest prize

Did I sacrifice for those ardent eyes!.

    Translation by [1] Peter Farnbank]

  • @BlueVellamo Thenk you for the translation. How is Helmut's pronounciation in Russian? Is it any good? Did you hear him sing the national anthem?

  • @barrysfriens

Helmut's Russian is very good. only slight accent.

    the national anthem is great!

  • Darkness yours conceal mighty fires real;

They my fate will seal: burn my soul with zeal!

But my love for you, when the time is due,

Will refresh anew like the morning dew!

  • Oh, these gorgeous eyes, dark and glorious eyes,

    Burn-with-passion eyes, how you hypnotise!

How I_ adore you so, how I fear you though,

Since I saw you glow! Now my spirit’s low!

  • Wow, he's great at singing Russian even though he's not Russian.

  • @bjr43 Of course he is not Russian, he is a north-Belgian and beiing Flemish is an advantage for learning a foreign language: Nearly 80% of the Flemish speak (more or less fluently) 4 languages.

  • Why there are whole bunch people dressed like gypsies in the background?

  • Because this is a song about how a man fell in love with a beautiful gypsy woman.

  • Ohh, I never knew that. Thanks ;)

  • I believe it's a ballad of an Imperial Russian Solider/Officer who falls in love with a gypsy girl. Goes to prove- that you cant pick who you fall in love with. I greatly enjoyed this song...

  • @Aegaleus gypsies - is an integral attribute of russian romance like guitar (it's not russian vusic instrument).

  • Antmenah hat geschrieben,

    Otschi Tschornije:

    Wie Sterne Leuchtend

    Ich liebe sie

  • also helmut lotti ist german/belgish

  • No he is Flemish.

  • Youre silly because you think that... Helmut shows the good relationship between russia and germany... so shut up an enjoy this great song...

...I love all these russian songs hes singing btw..:)

  • He is Belgian he just chose Russian songs simply because of their beauty, just admire ;)

  • Thank you for the spelling of Xhosa :)

  • He sings in Italian, Spanish, French, German, English, Russian and the African "click-language" which I don't know how to spell the name of.

That's quite an achievement. I love Helmut!!!

  • Xhosa, I believe. And you are right. He is quite an accomplished singer.

  • I get chills when he hits those notes from 3:23 on. I would love to hear songs by him in which he sings to his highest level. He's awesome!

  • Helmut can sing 15 languages and speak 5 or 6 languages.

He said it in an interview.

    Helmut learn really fast languages.

    I Love him so much!

He save my life 4 times and i owe my life to this man.

I Love retro music too, French, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, because of Helmut, italian and all languages in Europe. I Love Creole music too.

Finaly, i love songs who i understand the Liyrics! I'm a singer, not a Pro but, my preference goes to retro! Now i stopped because i write a book and it takes almost all my times!

  • Helmut rules on this song! He's Belgian, but he sings it better than any Russian.

  • Helmut, you are the best!!!

  • he speaks a lot of languges for example: german. english, russia, belgien !!

  • Sorry to disappoint you, but there is no such thing as a language called "Belgian". ^^

  • Why does he speak german? anyway.. He is damn good!

  • songs when russia WAS great!at the times of the empire!!!

  • fabulous!!

  • poor and ignorant man! it' s Réunion Island what is the whole world !!!!!!!!

  • Did he sing Korobeiniki? That song is really infectious to my mind since I played Tetris game when I was a kid back then.

  • the most capturing russian song ever! beautiful voice!

  • amayonasing your voice is the best in the world

  • damn i wish i knew how to speak russian, it has to be the most beautiful language. besides i love this mans voice.

  • very good song

  • great russian song!

  • odlicno Helmut Lotti

    Thank you for the song

    Vlado Ottawa,Canada

  • mein absolutes lieblingslied!

  • what is the name of the song? when i search for otschi tschornije, i don't found anything

is the russian way to write it. hope that helps.

  • Wow... 5 languages + 5 PERFECT accents... He's great.

  • lol he butchers the accent part, i know ruski, he aint making those natural sharp words.

  • It's okay, Russian is a very hard language to master. For someone who doesn't really speak the language he does a pretty good.

  • How many languages does that man speak anyway?

  • He can speaks 5 languages

  • but that's easy for flemish-belgians. they are basically born bilinguals: they learn Flemish (Dutch) and French since very little + english and then it's easy to learn German from Dutch (same language family). of course speaking 5 languages is impresive anyway, I just point out it's not so surprising for a belgian

  • But in most parts of Europe, you get that.

If you live say in nth west of Russia, you will most likely know Russian,Finnish,Saami etc.

In the south, some of the Arabic languages.

Much depends on what part of Europe one is living.

Now am I green with envy?

    YES.....

Should have got off my ass, and learn.

  • Nope, that's not true, European are not multilingual. For example very few french speak any other language other than french, the italians and the spanish usually don't know foreigh languages. And of course inn the South we don't speak arabic!

  • That's nearly untrue Italians don't talk foreign languages O.o.

    Actually i like talk 4 languages myself^^'.

Lol well maybe some of them doesn't, but times change man XD.

Oh btw Holland rocks more than Belgium o.o XD (just joking i was in belgium few times and it's a really nice country especially in the north XP).

Well i think Helmutt is amazing mastering so many languages. =p

  • kind..

  • @vetdino Ahahah :P So far so true :P

  • which ones?

  • To the ear of a thrird-generation American used to hearing Slavic sounds as a child,

Helmut Lotti's rendition of this Russian folksong was ELECTRIFYING. It actually provoked a wave of unthinking tears to hear these sounds, this from a listener not even Russian, but Polish, and a Teutonophile to boot! Try to figure out this reaction while

you turn up the volume all the way!

  • A THIRD-generation American!
