Very beautiful song.. and this is not the firs time he has recorded it!! I love his voice particularly because he's an artist who can do two different versions of the same song and both great!!
@bjr43 Of course he is not Russian, he is a north-Belgian and beiing Flemish is an advantage for learning a foreign language: Nearly 80% of the Flemish speak (more or less fluently) 4 languages.
I believe it's a ballad of an Imperial Russian Solider/Officer who falls in love with a gypsy girl. Goes to prove- that you cant pick who you fall in love with. I greatly enjoyed this song...

I Love retro music too, French, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, because of Helmut, italian and all languages in Europe. I Love Creole music too.
Finaly, i love songs who i understand the Liyrics! I'm a singer, not a Pro but, my preference goes to retro! Now i stopped because i write a book and it takes almost all my times!

My god, Lotti has to be the most awefully lame, and cheesy singer in the whole world. He sounds like a moron, and if it wasn't that his father was indecently rich, Helmut Lotti would never have had a career. Can't believe anyone likes that lol!!!

But in most parts of Europe, you get that.
If you live say in nth west of Russia, you will most likely know Russian,Finnish,Saami etc.
In the south, some of the Arabic languages.
Much depends on what part of Europe one is living.
Now am I green with envy?
YES.....
