  • My '04 Sentra SpecV walked an early 90's RS 305. We ran back-to-back 4 or 5 times. However, I KNOW I wouldn't stand a chance against a 350 Camaro of the same year--those 350 TPI's are torque monsters. They pull like a train.

  • What SHO should I get. There is a 97 with the v8 and a 5 speed 89 with the 3.0 v6. I like both cars but I don't know. There are so many people on here saying the 89 is better than the 97 but I don't know.

  • i agree aidenmonster, i have a 97 sho wit 2 turbos, i dont care what 305 you have or 350. a retard can make a chevy small block fast, smart people usually flock to things that pose a challenge to most. thats why i have a 11sec taurus. a 2003 ses taurus wit a gtp blow on it. the 3.0l duratec is a way better fit for that s/c. also im havein fun killin camero ss in my 2011 sho wit a lot of mods. my new project is my 97shobra that will be rear wheel and have an 83-302boss in it. a TT taurus! ya budy

  • that camaro was a 305 tbi which was the slowest 305 to be made race a 5 speed 305 tpi g92 which was the fastest 305 made you'll see a big difference. i know because i own one.

  • i have a 97 v8 sho and yes i have lost to some 350s bu,t those were moddified and the sho was pretty much stock...a stock 305 doesnt have shit on a stock v8 sho. i have a lot of friends with stock small blocks and modded ones and ive never lost to a stock 350. ive even beaten some lightly modded 350s. the thing is any one can buy a 350 and modded it but the sho isnt bad for a 4door. its unfortunate that there wasnt a strong aftermarket for this rear pieces of american front wheel drive creature

  • Races side by side and start at the same time are a lot more fair. The driver behind you gets jumped and has to punch it afterwards and that loss of time equals loss of race sometimes.

  • @Boston1775 You must have an issue with V8 SHOs. Lemme break it down for you: V8 MTX > V6 MTX > V8 ATX > V6 ATX. Auto V6 SHOs were the worst things to roll off the assembly line in Atlanta.

    You could certainly swap one in but then for me the thought that the v8 engine isn't truly the yamaha power house that makes or breaks a SHO in the first place.

    Don't bang on the v6 ATX's , sure they'll never pull with an MTX :| butt they are still a blast to drive. Love my SHO.

  • No I know a 305 isn't that great it's a work horse motor a 327 or 350 will beat it any day but it's still inconcivable to me that a SHO will outpace it by that much maybe he was having a bad day or something but they should run alot closer honeslty it's cool if your car is that good that's cool it is just hard for me to beleave that's all.

Maybe he was having a bad day, but this SHO (the old green one) was the worst slowest POS of a SHO I've ever owned.   • I agree the 305 is pointless. but I bleieve about beating the SHO. The first V6 ones were overrated, the V8 ones were gutless. The new ones a fast as hell for the weight. 4300 pounds and under 5 seconds to 60 is really good. What year S10 did you have?

  • I honestly don't know why there was such a distance between us when it was over, but I DO know that, stock for stock, a SHO of any year will take a 5.0 Mustang with NO problems.

    Also, a 305 is NOT all that. You're making it out to be the greatest thing since sliced bread. It's not.

  • I'm not talking down your car I check a couple other websites and both cars run about the same the fox body Camaro rs 305 and Z28 all ran with the 5.0 mustang and it's well known with a few minor mods the 5.0 GT mustang could be faster than a new GT mustang so basically your saying your SHO V8 is faster than a GT mustang which is all made by Ford nope sorry your video can say whatever it wants there's more to it.

  • What are you talking about? It's a commonly known fact that any year mustang, save the newer ones, are no match for a SHO of ANY year. Also, Fox Body is referring to Mustangs, the term for Camaros you're looking for is F body.

    This is completely false.

    A fully loaded 5.0 GT Vert with Auto will run a low 15. This is SHO territory. (I own a 94 ATX car with 3.0 bumpsticks btw). A GT coupe will knock a tenth or two off. An LX coupe 5.0 will pull a SHO of any year with authority, stock to stock.

    I have owned 4 5.0's all of which I went different build routes with, and various other fox chassis cars (Fairmonts, Zephyrs, Early 80's Tbirds etc.), and am elbow deep in SHO country at the moment.

    The RS does not come with the proper map, heads, or cam to compete with the Z28 and IROC-Z cars. The 350 was only offered in the IROC-Z with a 4 speed automatic, which despite 10 more hp over the 5.0 HO, meant power loss, and greater weight left the Camaro trailing.

    RS's during those days were commonly called "Really Slow" because of the enormous speed difference between an RS Maro and a 5-speed TPI 305 Z28.

    RS's were pretty literally crapped on by 5.0's.

    Anyways, about your Taurus being a V6, you posted a comment on another one of my videos saying DOHC, which I assumed was just a Duratec because usually if it's a SHO people say it's a SHO. Besides, most Tauruses are V6's anyways.

  • LS1 is a better motor than a 5.0 sure. It's also ten years newer. However, the new 4.6L makes the same power as the 5.7L LS1 and the older 4.6L Cobra motor made about the same power as the LS1 in the same time period, and the '03-'04 Cobras put down 380hp to the wheels right out of the box. I can put down over 300whp with just heads/cam/intake on an old 5.0 for cheap.

  • Ford has the GT which competes with the CTS-V and Corvettes, and they have many Mustang layouts. Base model, GT, Roush with all of the different stages including 427R, etc. I don't really care about new cars anyway. Waste of money if you ask me. Why pay $30,000 + for a new car when you can restore a nice old 'Vette or Mustang and make it nicer and faster for less than half the price? Old cars are cheap and easy to fix and more fun if you ask me.

  • GT has been out of production for almost 5 years. Not much of a competitor for the CTS-V, kinda missing a couple doors and any kind of practicality.

  • Sure I can, anyone that enjoys restoring older cars understands that, it's simple. I have a total of $3,000 into my '82 coupe 5.0 including the cost of buying the car itself and it already beats new GTs lol. The seats need to be recovered and the kit for that is $360 on The Paddock. The car needs paint, and I can get a real nice paint job done for a grand by people I know. Has cold a/c, power windows, power locks, good sound system. So for like $4,500 bucks my car looks nice and beats new GTs.

  • ok seriously GM guy down there this is a 4 door family sedan... it has a 3.4L DOHC V8 from Yamaha. With some mods it is a 10-14 sec car your trying to compare it to a corvette. the only thing you can compare is the G8 and since GM has hit rock bottom not much room to talk man. V8s and V6 cars have there place in the world if you want to compare a V6 then compare the 1 and 2 gen SHOs and fyi Corvette cant beat a properly built SHO based car referring to the SHO Shop SHOgun here.

  • I dont have a car, I sold my mustangs to my uncle to pay for a class my scholarship wont pay for, one had a 351W and cherry bomb turbos, The other was a 96 GT with a Hellion turbo kit and no mufflers. I drive my 97 F350(460, built) its got strait pipes. My camera equip got stolen(I live in Athens Ga for gods sake). I hate the way the new GM V8s sound, its all to tinny and fake

    I've always hated the fact that I have a car with a V8 that I can't rev past 4K RPM. Now I can! that also clears the way for an upcoming swap that I definitely plan on doing........

  • I know what you mean... people that have V8 SHOs know what you mean. But there is a certain faction of A-holes that will somehow get the idea that the engine only revs to 4k.

    What Shrike means is that it must be in (D)rive to rev past 4k. There is a fuel cutoff in neutral that stops you from revving higher in Neutral.

    Yeah, I read somewhere that you want to have 3 pedals where people would expect to see 2. The way it should have been in the first place.
