Truman said "The atom bomb was no "great decision." It was merely another powerful weapon in the arsenal of righteousness. We thank God that it has come to us, instead of to our enemies; and we pray that He may guide us to use it in His ways and for His purposes."
Estimates state up to 200,000 total had died by 1950 from burns, radiation and related disease. From 1950 to 2000, 46% of leukemia deaths and 11% of solid cancer deaths among bomb survivors were due to radiation from the bombs, the statistical excess being estimated to 94 leukemia and 848 solid cancers.
Truman made the decision to recognize the establishment of the State of Israel over the objections of Secretary of State George Marshall, who feared it would hurt relations with the Arab states
"I am sorry, gentlemen, but I have to answer to hundreds of thousands who are anxious for the success of Zionism: I do not have hundreds of thousands of Arabs among my constituents."
Doctors infected soldiers, prostitutes, prisoners and mental patients with syphilis and other sexually transmitted diseases, without the informed consent of the subjects, and treated most subjects with antibiotics. This resulted in at least 83 deaths
NeoTomoyakun i almost totally agree with you. Except sometimes where violence is necessary and im sure u r gonna agree to that. Remember Chicago labor day or Spanish civil war against fascism etc.
Im not talking in war terms+mass extermination thinking.
This is a kinda soldiery discussion.
If we adopt this logic, then what we do about overgrown population? Drop 10 big ones?
Or re-evaluate birth control in Africa+Asia which is right?
So i dont give a damn about what Hirohito was supposed to do. If i do so then i ll probably be having nightmares (which i had) about what we did in Nam+to other countries by killing innocent civilians just to overcome weapons industry.
@freakhood This video shows you the Japanese citizens were expected to fight. Death by invasion or death by bomb is the same fucking result. The Japanese society was fucked in the head just like the Germans were.
@freakhood Hiroshima housed the military bases and headquarters of the 5th army division and the 2nd general army which commanded the defense of all of Southern Japan. Maybe you should go back in time and tell the emperor not to build military installations inside cities. You are so fucking ignorant.
@Seapaddler The 2nd general army did not command the defense of all of Southern Japan but administered it, there is a huge difference. 16th Area Army commanded the defense of southern Japan which was Kyushu, it was far more important an HQ than 2nd General Army. Every city on earth during the war had military installations in them, China's went back centuries.
@Seapaddler "Hiroshima housed the military bases and headquarters of the 5th army division" - if Hiroshima was such an important military target that required totally obliterating it along with over 100,000 of its civilians at the end of the war when Japan was already beaten why wasn't it bombed earlier?? - in fact why was Hiroshima not bombed at all but left in "pristine condition"??
@majorgeeek Read the minutes of the meeting of the targetting committee in May '45. Dr. Stearns pointed out that the Ota River delta divided the city into six islands- making it a poor target for incindiaries.
PS have you written to theMacArthur museum in Norfolk Va. to get acopy of the'Macmemo'??? LOL!
@kentamitchell USAF Gen LeMay in '45 used a plethora of High Explosives bombs AND incendiary bombs - from the onset, Hiroshima was a low priority military and industrial target and escaped USAF aerial bombing for that reason - Dr Stearn's decision to "reserve" Hiroshima for the A bomb at the April'45 meeting was because it was "largest city" in terms of its civilian population in pristine condition
PS - why didn't Truman sue the newspapers for damages? to his low reputation?
@majorgeeek No American President has ever sued for civil libel in the near half century since Truman left office- or in the century before he took office. Newsflash: Alien & Sedition Acts were repealed when *Jefferson* was in office.
Truman could've "sent the Secret Service to knock on doors"? And do WHAT exactly?
@kentamitchell not only Truman but the Govt or White House any no of Depts could have brought defamation actions against The Tribune but DIDN'T oh dear? - why didn't they? why did every one concerned suddenly go abruptly quiet and why didn't Truman or anybody from the Govt call a news conference to refute allegations in the Tribune which are in reality extremely damaging to Truman's reputation?
@majorgeeek *SIGH* OK, did your (obviously VERY limited) education ever coverthe concept of "you can't prove a negative"? So if I accuseObama of boinking an underageSasquatch & theWH doesn't immediately deny it, according to you, itstrue. You're pathetic. Truman admin made no comment because thestory wasso obviously bogus. A fraud.
Strange that in *66* years, there's no supporting documents. Why didn't DOZENS of GOP Senators & >100 GOP Reps- none ever commented- because they recognized BS.
@kentamitchell "Truman admin made no comment because thestory wasso obviously bogus. A fraud" - fraud is a legal term and that's odd since no one has officially claimed the story is a fraud not even President Truman or any of his staff his legal aids and PR or the Tribune nor the Washington Post in fact they did not even retract the story or give an editorial - strange that in 66 years no one has denied the story MacArthur admitted to Hoover the story was true
@kentamitchell the Newspapers wouldn't print your story "I accuseObama of boinking an underageSasquatch " unless there was evidence - Obama would deny the story anyway a-la Clinton style and your dumb ass wouldn't be worth spit if you fabricated the evidence - yet Trohan or the newspapers never retracted their scoop - Truman did not deny the story or say MacArthur memo was false - MacArthur stood by the story - the story went quiet suggests secret deals were struck
@majorgeeek Exactly WHEN did MacArthur "stand by the story"?
Secret deal? Still a secret 66 years later? No mention during the Congressional hearings in '51 or the election campaign in '52? Or even in a memoir written in '64?
Publishing astory w/o evidence? Look up how Janet Cooke won her Pulitzer, LOL!
@kentamitchell MacArthur admitted to Hoover the story was true - the fact the story went immediately quiet suggests either secret deals were struck or a gag order was placed on the whole story or both - but fraud or hoax seem very unlikely since it is impossible for Trohan to accurately invent or pirate the story given the ultra high secrecy surrounding the facts of Japan's surrender and especially as no one involved with the story has claimed it is a hoax
@majorgeeek Uh-huh. And Hoover did not mention this incident in his memoirs BECAUSE??? Andneither Hoover nor MacArthur leakedthat inf to the GOP fora '52 election issue BECAUSE???
I'd bewilling to betat very long odds that you are not a law school graduate- "gag order"? For 66 years? The UK has an Official Secrets Act- we don't.
Thereason why nobody bothered calling apress conference? Because nobody took Trohan's fiction seriously enough to bother.
@kentamitchell "Shameless liar or just plain stupid" that would be you - Trohan did what? - what was a fiction ? - besides which you keep on avoiding my questions - how did Trohan know Hirohito would be spared prosecution as a war criminal when Suzuki, Toyoda etc were all tried and sentenced - how did Trohan also know on the 19 Aug that Hirohito would become "puppet in the hands of American forces" as he reported in the Tribune ?
@majorgeeek uh-huh. You claim there was a "secret deal"- in 1945? But MacArthur didn't become Hoover's neighbor til after his recall in 1951. Strange that NONE of MacArthur's biographers (Manchester et.al) and NONE of his staff (Willoughby and Whitney) mention Trohan's column.
After hirohito's surrender, it was no secret that MacArthur intended to use h ascollaborator in chief- T getting that one fact right convinces you that the whole fabrication is genuine.
@majorgeeek Look, kid, until you can come up with a scrap of supporting documentation- from MacArthur, his staff, Leahy, his staff, British scources, Japanese scources- shouldn't you just shut the fuck up and stop embarassing yourself?
@majorgeeek Boy, you NO sense of shame. After LeMay took over 1/20/45 his forces usedincindiariesoverwelmingly- a few HE v firefighting, HE v kamikaze airfields, & some mines.
Hiroshima wasan important, but in 2months, they'd only hada chanceto hit thetop 20 or so.
USA gvnmt lied at that time, they banished investigation reporters and journalist, the true complete documentaries and information about the A Bomb only came to the public in the 70's 80's, ifthe USA were right about using it, why were they prohibiting journalist to come to the area? At time Truman said that the number victims of the bombs was only about 10 000 when in reality it was about 300 000.
Do you know how much the bombed populations were suffering? Do you read books about the after bombing H and N? A lot of people starved from famine and water privation in those cities, plus instaed of healing them both USA and japanese doctors were using them as testing experiment, they were completly abandoned for a lot of time, only having themselves for survive, lots of them comited suicide, i realy hope you never experiment living in a bombed city.
the bombs were unecessary and didn'tdo justice for innocent japanese people who were starving, just do the things get worse for them, the best way was to invade japanese gvnmt and forced them to surrender, the japanese army already being completly defeated, but attacking innocent population is still the best way, the main instigators of the war never suffer, the innocent always suffer. Japan is one of the most pacific country today, no matter why!
USA allies knew very well the effects the bomb will have, burning people, causing cancers, affecting their organs by inside, etc. The scientist who made the bomb prevented them and adviced them not to use it. But truman still decided to do it, at last if they really wanted to force japan to surrender by force they could have used normal bombs.
But still attacking urnamed and innocent citizens is never a good thing, no matter you are part of allies or axis, war is between soldiers.
@tatianaf1000 Normalbombs? FYI by 8/45 US B-29s had burned 40% of the area of Japan's 60 largest cities. USAAF was beginning to destroy J rail system; if the war had continued, well before '46 millions of J civilians would've faced starvation (along w/100,000 Allied POWs) When MacArthur got to J 8/45, he found it on the brinkof famine. He cabled DC "Send me food or send me bullets" US grain shipments averted mass starvation.
Even using normal bombs was not good, but the fact that usa were already bombomg japanese cities, it would be less controversial. The worse is not only using the attomik bombs, but the effetct that it have later (cancer, pneunomia, etc). Plus the atomic bombs are able to kill more people in a small area (two cities here), than using normal bombs, that's why i'm saying that, even if is not justified.
Yes japanese population was starving just like german population, the life in autoritarian regimes is just like that, they are forced to obey or be executed with their family, i'm sure most of the japanese blamed more their gouvernement for what happened than the us army, but us army still bomb these cities with enjoyement when most of the population certainly had enough sending their children to war and suffering from that.
@kentamitchell I disagree, there are no right desicions in war. The Japs might be cruel, but what to say about over 200k INNOCENT people. Truman was a mass-murderer, nothing less.
men with bombs and guns vs children and women with wooden pals, the fight will last 10 minutes maxi, you're right urss didin't bomb japanese cities, sorry for my mistake, thee, they invaded japanese colonies, was what i wanted to say.
J army was recruting volonteers so what? US army was doing the same
@kentamitchell Violence should be unnecessary, both Japanese and American and all other war participants (Only the participants; soldiers/politicians not the innocent civillians) are mass murderers, criminals. In anyway WRONG people and it is WRONG in my eyes to side either desicions that led to unnecessary pain and death.
@kentamitchell I know the real world kid. Full of crappy people who think violence is necessary. While the world could be so much better without them.
@NeoTomoyakun I have NO respect for young boys with NO knowledge of history- & noidea how lucky they are.
On April 11, 1945 my uncle's unit, the 104th Infantry Division liberated theNazi concentration camp @ Nordhausen. They gave aidto750 survivors & a decent burial for 3,000victims. Any man- draftee or volunteer- who served in that unit is a hero.
@kentamitchell You completely missed the point. You cant justify killing of more than 10,000 children with a bomb by saying Hitler and Stalin were killing millions as well.
@srdjankovic oh, yes- just accept hirohito as a living god or make a compromise peace leaving j militarists in power- & fight PacWar 2 a generation later.
@kentamitchell I dont want to argue with you any more, since you think there is nothing wrong with killing people. H&N was the largest mass murder in history, and that is a FACT. We cannot choose in which country we'll be born, or among which people we'll be born, and we cant choose the time in which we'll be born. The only thing we can choose is to be humane or non-humane.
@kentamitchell Im sorry, the firebombing was the the biggest mass murder in history. In fact, i think America takes all three places on the billboard, but i guess that just makes you feel powerful and happy.
The problem is not only USA bombing Japan, remember they were already doing it, lot of people forget that USA and URSS troops bombed big japanese cities befor3e the nuclear bombs like Osaka, kyoto, Tokyo (10 000 citizens died from the allies bombs), the allies did the same in germany, they bomb cities like dresden or munich (killing about 1.2 million german citizens).
The big problem is the secondary effets of the attomik bomb.
Certainly can't say that Japs weren't warned and given a chance to surrender, before being nuked - something that Japs would NEVER have done, had they been the ones with atomic bombs, instead.
@SuperYT4Ever the Japs were not given a proper opportunity to surrender in fact the USA WENT AHEAD with the bomb TOO SOON - this bombing had other hidden political agendas and was dropped in a show of supreme stupidity , low morality on part of the USA - this is a war crime against humanity which is allowed to go unpunished for too long
@majorgeeek And it was perfectly justified for the Japs to sneak attack Pearl Harbor to start the war with the U.S.? Were the Japs ever known for their patience in consideration for Americans? DO YOU KNOW HOW UTTERLY ABSURD YOUR COMMENT IS?
@majorgeeek TOO SOON? Too bad the US didn't have & *use* atomic bombs a year or two earlier.
Potsdam Declaration 7/26/45 called on J govt to order unconditional surrender of all J military forces "or face prompt and utter destruction". J govt reply "mokusatsu"
11 days later, Hiroshima. 3 days after that, Nagasaki. 15 hours later, hirohito gave the surrender order.
'Supreme stupidity' would have been not using the new weapon.
@kentamitchell nonsense - Ultimatum's do not excuse mass murder - Truman is guilty of the slaughter of innocent civilians in two of Japan's major cities - his mindless act has tagged USA with war crimes, mass murder and irresponsible and immoral use of Nuclear Weapons - even the Soviet have better moral record with nukes
@majorgeeek LOL! You're praising the Soviets for not using nukes in WW2??? They didn't develop an A bomb until 1949. You think the Soviets wouldn't have used A bombs if they'd had them in 1941???
@majorgeeek Yeah, because they knew that it would've almost certainly led to a mutual destruction with the U.S. and her allies countering with nuclear missiles, but not because the Soviets were any nicer.
YOU CANT COMPARE ANYTHING TO THIS. THIS IS A SYSTEMATIC WAY OF EXTERMINATION. the fact that these weapons were developed and USED gave the possibility FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER,THAT EVERY LIVING ON THIS PLANET COULD BE DESTROYED WITH A PUSH OF A BUTTON!!!!!!. America not only mass murdered thousands of people but planted the seed for any other country to use nuclear weapons for their OWN just cause. HARRY TRUMAN IS THE GREATEST WAR CRIMINAL!!!
@Achalel An unconditional surrender by definition does not have any conditions. Furthermore, in Jan 1945 there was no "surrender offer" (leaving aside the fact that you cannot OFFER to surrender, it is a unilateral action). The Japanese ambassador to the Soviet Union, as late as June of 1945, was under orders to try and negotiate a "favorable" treaty that would allow the Japanese a face-saving exist from the war. That meant, at the time, keeping Korea and Manchuria at the very least.
@FieryBalrog Achalel is the victim of a hoax by Chicago Tribune columnist Walter Trohan (1903-2003). According to him J govt made an offer (surrender, J keeps emporer) in 1/45. MacArthur forwards this to FDR, FDR & later Truman ignores it.
What is wrong with this? MacArthur never mentioned such an offer, nor Leahy (who supposedly leaked it to WT) nor ANY J govt official.
@FieryBalrog No, they said they would withdraw their troops from Manchuria after the war and not interfere with their internal politics. They also said they had no intention of keeping any territory they occupied. Research, you will find it.
Whether Harry Truman should be considered a “War Criminal” for dropping the atomic bombs on Japan or not (with good arguments!). Google for:
"THE TRUTH ABOUT THE ATOMIC BOMBS" by Bill Whittle which is published on the May 1, 2009 on pajamasmedia com (it's a ~16 Min video plus written comments & discussions).
hiroshima had the bad luck to be attacked by usa and a lot of people feel sorow about them , i wonder if some one will care if someone drops 1 or 10 or even 100 atomic bombs in usa , no one? i knew it
@adigt5 What about the people that Japan killed? You seems to forget that Japan raped and killed over 300,000 people in China then attack Indochina, the Philippines, Malaysia, Manchuria, Wake Island, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the Aleutians and, committing an array of atrocities. What about them?
@hint0122 You should have enough human respect not to call the japanese "japs". It's simple racism. Think of the pain associated with that word for those who lived through that era.
@rockerhippi "You should have enough human respect not to call the japanese "japs". It's simple racism. Think of the pain associated with that word for those who lived through that era"
So by this logic, calling British people 'Brits' or Americans 'Yanks' would be racism? lol. People call the Japanese 'Japs' for simplicity. Not due to racism. Japs-Japanese. Your comment implies that the Japanese must have something to feel ashamed about regarding WW2. I wonder what it could possibly be? :)
@TheARMAProductions What I meant was the pain for the japanese people who were victims of racism in and after world war two in the states. Each nation has things to be ashamed of. The blind patriotism of the japanese caused so much unneccesary suffering in the closing of the war. The difference with brits and yanks is how those words came to be and what they were intended to imply. People should think about what they are saying. It's language, and it's being misused.
@hint0122 The Japanese government had every chance to surrender, knowing that they themselves were safe from being killed, and a refusal to surrender would result in the loss of civilian lives. The civilians had no say in it. The 'Japs' were not a collective hive mind, nor is any country. I would have thought that with the minor disaster of 9/11, targeted against 'The Americans', you would have learned that such categorisations only bring pain.
@hint0122 America couldn't kill the emperor and generals, because that would throw the country into disarray and make resolving the war next to impossible.
@LifestyleGaimzz Do you REALLY believe that the Manhatten project- or the Apollo program- was a one man operation? With such people it is vain to argue.
Roosevelt and Churchill are the true culprits of World War. The Americans and British won the war, with Communist Dictator Help, thats why they were able to write a history of fraud.
Research how both the USA and the British Empire started two world wars on Germany - not the other way round. Research history science books, quite watching "bad Germans" Hollywood-Shows and Disneyworld TV, and then you will have proof that these two BANKERS, Roosevelt and Churchill, made money with war.
3000 soldiers killed in pearl harbour vs 2 cities nuked to the ground....seems fair, too bad america was informed few hours later since the declaration of war come too late cose of the difference in time lines, also japan made a giant mistake for not invading usa after pearl, but they pulled back,if they had invaded in time half of us would have been fucked,,,just saying
Compromise peace? J military retains power; plans Pacific War II
Invade? 240,000 died on Okinawa. Kyushu's garrison was x10 larger. DO THE MATH!
Blockade? W/J rail system gone, J imports down 90% & no motor xport to move food, how many MILLIONS of J civ would've starved (along w/100,000 Allied POWs) before 'god/man hirohito gave the surrender order? J would've faced an experience like Ukraine had in 1931.
@majorgeeek Well, that certainly applies same to Hirohito, as well. In fact, under him, the Japs committed far more cruel and despiccable acts in Asia and Pacific!
@SuperYT4Ever so what you are saying is if Japan had nuclear weapons in WW2 the USA would not have nuked N + H if - they would have found another way to settle things? is that what you are saying?
@majorgeeek Yes, it's possible that USA would have thought twice before nuking Japan, in that scenario, for a fear of same retaliation by Japs. But, that wasn't the case, so USA did what it did, very fortunately, for itself and the victims of the savage Japs.
@SuperYT4Ever the USA dropped the bomb because they knew the Japanese did not have one and could not retaliate - unfortunately this tags USA with one of the largest acts of mass murder of civilians of the WW2
@majorgeeek when USA dropped its atomic bombs on H & N in 1945, 1.6 million Soviet troops launched a attack on the Japanese army in east Asia. Within days, Emperor Hirohito's million-man army in the region had collapsed.
It was a momentous turn on the Pacific battleground of WW2 But in recent years some historians have argued that the Soviet action served as effectively as — or possibly more than — the A-bombs in ending the war - the atomic bombing did not stop the war with Japan
@kentamitchell nonsense - the decision to mass murder thousands of innocent people, women and children is disgusting, immoral and supported only by neoNazis like yourself
@kentamitchell I said you are a neoNazi - you are too stupid for a real Nazi - as well you support using nuclear weapons on cities and mass murdering innocent civilians
@kentamitchell when USA dropped its atomic bombs on H & N in 1945, 1.6 million Soviet troops launched a attack on the Japanese army in east Asia. Within days, Emperor Hirohito's million-man army in the region had collapsed.

"He used the word 'mokusatsu', meaning: 'to kill with silent contempt'".
Wrong. "Mokusatsu" can also mean "we're thinking about it". Yes people, more than 75 thousand people died because of a shitty translator (may his balls be cut off).
@sidwerd1hater Not quite.2 days after the 7/26/45 Potsdam Declaration ("we will brook no delay") Prime Minister makes "mokusatsu" statement. Japanese state controlled press denounced PD.
NINE days later: Hiroshima. J govt was nowhere near surrender until after Hiroshima.
This whole video doesn't show the whole picture...the Japanese WERE talking about surrendering, especially since the Soviets were marching into Manchuria.
@nicck TALKING about surrender?I recommend you read the cables btwn JForMIn Togo & JambUSSR Sato in 7-8/45.Japan was nowhere *close* to surrender-the Jmilitary wanted status quo ante bellum-a"doover"sothey could take a generation to rearm and plan Pacific War II.
The Japanese were willing to surrender all along, especially when the USSR entered the pacific war. Unfortunately the US used the term "unconditional surrender". which gave the Japanese the impression that the emperor would be removed, which made them all more hesitant. But negotiations were happening for weeks before, trying to negotiate comfortable terms for the Empire. The Japanese were fanatics but they weren't stupid.
@kentamitchell That's still a negotiation in it's own right. If the Allies had kept up strategic bombing and the embargo up, the terms would have loosened considerably over just a few months, no bomb or not.
Pearl Harbour wasn't stupid at all. It was pretty much luck that the US carriers weren't there...if they were the war in the Pacific would be Japan taking islands at their leisure for about 2 years. It was incredibly smart but with high risk.
@nicck *Sigh* OK, I'm dealing with a slow learner here. Starting 8/11/45 the US air effort was going to be directed against the J rail system. Well before the end of '45, Japan would have faced mass famine. When MacArthur got to Japan 8/45, he cabled DC "Send me food or send me bullets" Only prompt US grain shipments prevented mass starvation.
J civilian deaths would have been in the millions (the militarists weren't going to be missing any meals )
@nicck Pearl Harbor wasn't stupid??? Military history just isn't your thing, is it? Tactical victory, Strategic catastrophe. If all 3 Pacific carriers had been in PH, do you really think that would have mattered in 8/45? Baka-san!
the problem with what he said is that america weren't having to end the war they lowerd the terms to try and be humain as they had the atomic bomb which was a last resort.
Fact is, Americans were tricked and lied into this war by the zionist FDR. Hitler didn't pose any sort of threat to the United States. No, my heroes are the Germans, because they are the only ones, that stood up, and had actually the balls to attack and cripple Stalin and his murderous horde, in this way saving the lives of millions of people. Trying to stop Bolschewism which was responsable for 30 million deaths even before ww2 had started. Bolschewism was financed by USA jews.
@rooizilver No he didn't, he posed a threat to the existence and freedom of our allies overseas. Their fate was doomed unless they had help. Poloticians always lie to get what they want, which one hasn't? Fact is the germans murdered millions of people due to their religious history. You need to research the haulocost and tell me the jews deserved what they got...
@sgtulmer Germans murdered millions due to their "religious history?" sounds like KGB brainwash you're repeating. the atheist jews running the Soviet Union murdered 10 million farmers to begin with in 1921, and that was the cause of the great famine. they immediately received humanitarian aid from the USA's tax payers. then Stalin came up, and before it was even time to fight world war 2, already 30 million Russians were massacred.
That makes him one of history's mass murderers of civilians. Together with "Bomber" Harris of England, (Dresden,Hamburg) and Vladimir Lenin of Soviet Russia (who managed to murder 30 million civilians before any war broke out).
Truman - probably the most evil President in US history. directly and indirectly responsible for the deaths of so many.
- Hiroshima and Nagasaki Atomic bombs - mass murderer of women, children and old civilians
- recognition of Israel
- interfering in Vietnam (leading to vietnam war)
- interfering in Korea (See Korea war)
- medical experiments on blacks in Tuskegee and Guatemalans
And this is not even a complete list of his crimes.
You should not be honoring or defending this man America ...

100,000s of civilians children and women killed for nothing they did.
This is sick as far as i can think. Attack army, not civilians. Period.
Truman. One of the worst criminals along with Hitler and Stalin.
This was not an act of patriotism. Not even close. Far bellow. Lower animal instinct.

@Seapaddler The 2nd General Army had nothing at all to do with Hiroshima being picked as a target for the A bomb.
The warnings of July 26 were vague in general and not any different from what was already happening over the last couple months.
1Dougy85 1 month ago
@freakhood Hiroshima housed the military bases and headquarters of the 5th army division and the 2nd general army which commanded the defense of all of Southern Japan. Maybe you should go back in time and tell the emperor not to build military installations inside cities. You are so fucking ignorant.
Seapaddler 1 month ago
@Seapaddler The 2nd general army did not command the defense of all of Southern Japan but administered it, there is a huge difference. 16th Area Army commanded the defense of southern Japan which was Kyushu, it was far more important an HQ than 2nd General Army. Every city on earth during the war had military installations in them, China's went back centuries.
1Dougy85 1 month ago
@Seapaddler "Hiroshima housed the military bases and headquarters of the 5th army division" - if Hiroshima was such an important military target that required totally obliterating it along with over 100,000 of its civilians at the end of the war when Japan was already beaten why wasn't it bombed earlier?? - in fact why was Hiroshima not bombed at all but left in "pristine condition"??
majorgeeek 3 weeks ago
@majorgeeek Read the minutes of the meeting of the targetting committee in May '45. Dr. Stearns pointed out that the Ota River delta divided the city into six islands- making it a poor target for incindiaries.
PS have you written to theMacArthur museum in Norfolk Va. to get acopy of the'Macmemo'??? LOL!
kentamitchell 2 weeks ago in playlist Hiroshima
@kentamitchell USAF Gen LeMay in '45 used a plethora of High Explosives bombs AND incendiary bombs - from the onset, Hiroshima was a low priority military and industrial target and escaped USAF aerial bombing for that reason - Dr Stearn's decision to "reserve" Hiroshima for the A bomb at the April'45 meeting was because it was "largest city" in terms of its civilian population in pristine condition
PS - why didn't Truman sue the newspapers for damages? to his low reputation?
majorgeeek 2 weeks ago
@majorgeeek No American President has ever sued for civil libel in the near half century since Truman left office- or in the century before he took office. Newsflash: Alien & Sedition Acts were repealed when *Jefferson* was in office.
Truman could've "sent the Secret Service to knock on doors"? And do WHAT exactly?
kentamitchell 2 weeks ago
@kentamitchell not only Truman but the Govt or White House any no of Depts could have brought defamation actions against The Tribune but DIDN'T oh dear? - why didn't they? why did every one concerned suddenly go abruptly quiet and why didn't Truman or anybody from the Govt call a news conference to refute allegations in the Tribune which are in reality extremely damaging to Truman's reputation?
majorgeeek 2 weeks ago
@majorgeeek *SIGH* OK, did your (obviously VERY limited) education ever coverthe concept of "you can't prove a negative"? Truman admin made no comment because thestory wasso obviously bogus. A fraud.
Strange that in *66* years, there's no supporting documents. Why didn't DOZENS of GOP Senators & >100 GOP Reps- none ever commented- because they recognized BS.
kentamitchell 2 weeks ago
@kentamitchell "Truman admin made no comment because thestory wasso obviously bogus. A fraud" - fraud is a legal term and that's odd since no one has officially claimed the story is a fraud not even President Truman or any of his staff his legal aids and PR or the Tribune nor the Washington Post in fact they did not even retract the story or give an editorial - strange that in 66 years no one has denied the story MacArthur admitted to Hoover the story was true
majorgeeek 2 weeks ago
@kentamitchell the Newspapers wouldn't print your story "I accuseObama of boinking an underageSasquatch " unless there was evidence - Obama would deny the story anyway a-la Clinton style and your dumb ass wouldn't be worth spit if you fabricated the evidence - yet Trohan or the newspapers never retracted their scoop - Truman did not deny the story or say MacArthur memo was false - MacArthur stood by the story - the story went quiet suggests secret deals were struck
majorgeeek 2 weeks ago
@majorgeeek Exactly WHEN did MacArthur "stand by the story"?
Secret deal? Still a secret 66 years later? No mention during the Congressional hearings in '51 or the election campaign in '52? Or even in a memoir written in '64?
Publishing astory w/o evidence? Look up how Janet Cooke won her Pulitzer, LOL!
kentamitchell 2 weeks ago in playlist Hiroshima
@kentamitchell MacArthur admitted to Hoover the story was true - the fact the story went immediately quiet suggests either secret deals were struck or a gag order was placed on the whole story or both - but fraud or hoax seem very unlikely since it is impossible for Trohan to accurately invent or pirate the story given the ultra high secrecy surrounding the facts of Japan's surrender and especially as no one involved with the story has claimed it is a hoax
majorgeeek 2 weeks ago
@majorgeeek Uh-huh. And Hoover did not mention this incident in his memoirs BECAUSE??? Andneither Hoover nor MacArthur leakedthat inf to the GOP fora '52 election issue BECAUSE???
I'd bewilling to betat very long odds that you are not a law school graduate- "gag order"? For 66 years? The UK has an Official Secrets Act- we don't.
Thereason why nobody bothered calling apress conference? Because nobody took Trohan's fiction seriously enough to bother.

majorgeeek 2 weeks ago
@majorgeeek uh-huh.

USA gvnmt lied at that time, they banished investigation reporters and journalist, the true complete documentaries and information about the A Bomb only came to the public in the 70's 80's, ifthe USA were right about using it, why were they prohibiting journalist to come to the area? At time Truman said that the number victims of the bombs was only about 10 000 when in reality it was about 300 000.
tatianaf1000 1 month ago
Do you know how much the bombed populations were suffering? Do you read books about the after bombing H and N? A lot of people starved from famine and water privation in those cities, plus instaed of healing them both USA and japanese doctors were using them as testing experiment, they were completly abandoned for a lot of time, only having themselves for survive, lots of them comited suicide, i realy hope you never experiment living in a bombed city.
tatianaf1000 1 month ago
the bombs were unecessary and didn'tdo justice for innocent japanese people who were starving, just do the things get worse for them, the best way was to invade japanese gvnmt and forced them to surrender, the japanese army already being completly defeated, but attacking innocent population is still the best way, the main instigators of the war never suffer, the innocent always suffer. Japan is one of the most pacific country today, no matter why!
tatianaf1000 1 month ago
USA allies knew very well the effects the bomb will have, burning people, causing cancers, affecting their organs by inside, etc. The scientist who made the bomb prevented them and adviced them not to use it. But truman still decided to do it, at last if they really wanted to force japan to surrender by force they could have used normal bombs.
But still attacking urnamed and innocent citizens is never a good thing, no matter you are part of allies or axis, war is between soldiers.
tatianaf1000 1 month ago
@tatianaf1000 Normalbombs? FYI by 8/45 US B-29s had burned 40% of the area of Japan's 60 largest cities. USAAF was beginning to destroy J rail system; if the war had continued, well before '46 millions of J civilians would've faced starvation (along w/100,000 Allied POWs) When MacArthur got to J 8/45, he found it on the brinkof famine. He cabled DC "Send me food or send me bullets" US grain shipments averted mass starvation.
kentamitchell 1 month ago in playlist Hiroshima
@kentamitchell
Even using normal bombs was not good, but the fact that usa were already bombomg japanese cities, it would be less controversial. The worse is not only using the attomik bombs, but the effetct that it have later (cancer, pneunomia, etc). Plus the atomic bombs are able to kill more people in a small area (two cities here), than using normal bombs, that's why i'm saying that, even if is not justified.
tatianaf1000 1 month ago
@kentamitchell

Research.

Research how both the USA and the British Empire started two world wars on Germany - not the other way round. Research history science books, quite watching "bad Germans" Hollywood-Shows and Disneyworld TV, and then you will have proof that these two BANKERS, Roosevelt and Churchill, made money with war.

@Hollandia777 Truman made the best decision he could under the circumstances.

@kentamitchell Truman is a mass murderer of innocent civilians - there is no doubt of that
majorgeeek 2 months ago
@majorgeeek what better choice did Truman have?
Compromise peace? J military retains power; plans Pacific War II
Invade? 240,000 died on Okinawa. Kyushu's garrison was x10 larger. DO THE MATH!
Blockade? W/J rail system gone, J imports down 90% & no motor xport to move food, how many MILLIONS of J civ would've starved (along w/100,000 Allied POWs) before 'god/man hirohito gave the surrender order? J would've faced an experience like Ukraine had in 1931.
kentamitchell 2 months ago
@majorgeeek Well, that certainly applies same to Hirohito, as well. In fact, under him, the Japs committed far more cruel and despiccable acts in Asia and Pacific!

@SuperYT4Ever war crimes do not justify war crimes
majorgeeek 2 months ago
@majorgeeek That's what war is all about.
SuperYT4Ever 2 months ago
@SuperYT4Ever so what you are saying is if Japan had nuclear weapons in WW2 the USA would not have nuked N + H if - they would have found another way to settle things? is that what you are saying?
majorgeeek 2 months ago
@majorgeeek Yes, it's possible that USA would have thought twice before nuking Japan, in that scenario, for a fear of same retaliation by Japs. But, that wasn't the case, so USA did what it did, very fortunately, for itself and the victims of the savage Japs.
SuperYT4Ever 2 months ago
@SuperYT4Ever the USA dropped the bomb because they knew the Japanese did not have one and could not retaliate - unfortunately this tags USA with one of the largest acts of mass murder of civilians of the WW2
majorgeeek 2 months ago
@majorgeeek when USA dropped its atomic bombs on H & N in 1945, 1.6 million Soviet troops launched a attack on the Japanese army in east Asia. Within days, Emperor Hirohito's million-man army in the region had collapsed.
It was a momentous turn on the Pacific battleground of WW2 But in recent years some historians have argued that the Soviet action served as effectively as — or possibly more than — the A-bombs in ending the war - the atomic bombing did not stop the war with Japan
majorgeeek 2 months ago
@kentamitchell nonsense - the decision to mass murder thousands of innocent people, women and children is disgusting, immoral and supported only by neoNazis like yourself
majorgeeek 2 months ago
@majorgeeek Also supported and carried out countless times by the savage imperial Japs, as history proves many times.
SuperYT4Ever 2 months ago

@kentamitchell I said you are a neoNazi - you are too stupid for a real Nazi - as well you support using nuclear weapons on cities and mass murdering innocent civilians

"He used the word 'mokusatsu', meaning: 'to kill with silent contempt'".
Wrong. "Mokusatsu" can also mean "we're thinking about it". Yes people, more than 75 thousand people died because of a shitty translator (may his balls be cut off).
sidwerd1hater 8 months ago
@sidwerd1hater Not quite.2 days after the 7/26/45 Potsdam Declaration ("we will brook no delay") Prime Minister makes "mokusatsu" statement. Japanese state controlled press denounced PD.
NINE days later: Hiroshima. J govt was nowhere near surrender until after Hiroshima.

This whole video doesn't show the whole picture...the Japanese WERE talking about surrendering, especially since the Soviets were marching into Manchuria.
This is all very Hollywood and wrong
nicck 9 months ago
@nicck TALKING about surrender?I recommend you read the cables btwn JForMIn Togo & JambUSSR Sato in 7-8/45.Japan was nowhere *close* to surrender-the Jmilitary wanted status quo ante bellum-a"doover"sothey could take a generation to rearm and plan Pacific War II.
kentamitchell 9 months ago
@nicck
THe japanese were not at all thinking about surrender not even fucking close
Where in the hell did u come up with that
Where is your proof
The11colek 7 months ago
@The11colek Where is your proof?
The Japanese were fanatics but they weren't stupid.
nicck 7 months ago
@nicck RUBBISH! Even after H&N 1/2 j war cbnt wanted
1. emporer remains absolute ruler
2. no occupation
3. j disarms self
4 no war crimes trials xcpt in j tribunals
If the J leadership wasn't stupid, they never would have attacked Pearl Harbor.
kentamitchell 7 months ago
@kentamitchell That's still a negotiation in it's own right. If the Allies had kept up strategic bombing and the embargo up, the terms would have loosened considerably over just a few months, no bomb or not.
Pearl Harbour wasn't stupid at all. It was pretty much luck that the US carriers weren't there...if they were the war in the Pacific would be Japan taking islands at their leisure for about 2 years. It was incredibly smart but with high risk.
nicck 7 months ago
@nicck *Sigh* OK, I'm dealing with a slow learner here. Starting 8/11/45 the US air effort was going to be directed against the J rail system. Well before the end of '45, Japan would have faced mass famine. When MacArthur got to Japan 8/45, he cabled DC "Send me food or send me bullets" Only prompt US grain shipments prevented mass starvation.
J civilian deaths would have been in the millions (the militarists weren't going to be missing any meals )
kentamitchell 7 months ago
@nicck You just can't be bothered to READ can you? Those were the terms 1/2 J cbnt wanted AFTER Hiroshima & Nagasaki.
Before then, they hadn't even given any thought to terms. See the cable from JForMin Togo to JambUSSR Sato 8/2/45.
kentamitchell 7 months ago
@nicck Pearl Harbor wasn't stupid??? Military history just isn't your thing, is it? Tactical victory, Strategic catastrophe. If all 3 Pacific carriers had been in PH, do you really think that would have mattered in 8/45? Baka-san!

the problem with what he said is that america weren't having to end the war they lowerd the terms to try and be humain as they had the atomic bomb which was a last resort.
Jamesc457 9 months ago

You need to research the haulocost and tell me the jews deserved what they got...
sgtulmer 9 months ago
@sgtulmer Germans murdered millions due to their "religious history?" sounds like KGB brainwash you're repeating. the atheist jews running the Soviet Union murdered 10 million farmers to begin with in 1921, and that was the cause of the great famine. they immediately received humanitarian aid from the USA's tax payers. then Stalin came up, and before it was even time to fight world war 2, already 30 million Russians were massacred.
rooizilver 9 months ago
@rooizilver Jews like Lenin, Stalin, Beria, Khrushchev, Brezhnev, Andropov, Gorbachev...
Trotsky led the Red Army during the Russian Civil War, but never got to the #1 spot.
kentamitchell 9 months ago
That makes him one of history's mass murderers of civilians. Together with "Bomber" Harris of England, (Dresden,Hamburg) and Vladimir Lenin of Soviet Russia (who managed to murder 30 million civilians before any war broke out).
rooizilver 10 months ago
@rooizilver H&N killed approx 200k. An invasion and/or blockade would've killed millions. Truman made the right call.
PS the President had NO involvement in the selection of the A bomb targets.
