Making a beat on ROLAND SP-404

@lilbobmarly thats because the signal is too low, theirs turntable amps they use like a 9 volt or sumthing like that, look it up in google, i use a pre amplifier to increase the volume of it

You just need to get a drum book and use the beats from there. You could get a friend that plays drums to make it for you.

never heard of any major problems with these if you look after them. as any instrument it needs to be cleaned and operated properly otherwise you cant expect many years of functioning from it.

when your setting the auto sample value (which in the vid you put it at 2) what exactly is that doing? is like how long your sampling or something?

no, it is a threshold value for the auto sampling. this means when you arm it for record and hit record it will wait until the input signal volume reaches this threshold value after which it will start the actual sampling.

this is going to sound like a really dumb question, but do you need the memory card to record samples from say, a record player onto the sp-404?

Hey, no. If you have free sample pads left and some free sample time in the internal memory of the unit then you can work without a flash card. But as far as I remember it had very small amount of the internal memory so your best way is to use the card if you want to do something major.

i don't know. do what you want.... replace the screen, shell, or even overclock the gba. buy flash carts and play all games and such. it depends on how much money you have.

hi! i want to buy one. can you connect the sp 404 to keyboard with midi cable and send the arranger track - drum and bass - that will use the 404 samples? like drum machine?

yes it does have midi in and thus can be connected to a midi keyboard to control the samples. tho you will not have chromatic pitch shift for the samples because the 404 does not allow you to do this.

u put the 16-bit 44kHz, mono or stereo WAV files onto the root of the compact flash card. when this is done use the sample import mode on the 404 to import those samples.

do you mean yelling into rca input slot ? lol hell no :) but you can sample from theinternal mic. i once made a beat using sounds I created with mouth and recorded with the internal mic. sounded quite interesting after you have used lots of fx on the samples.

on most samplers there is a TAP TEMPO button, when you repeatedly press it on the beat while the sample is played it set pattern/sequence tempo the the speed (BPM) you have hit.

I'm having trouble using the count I just got this machine (sp404) and I'm having trouble with getting my beats to play in sequence either my drum is a tad bit off or the loop then when I try to use my time/bpm the displays nid. can someone help me.

sorry cant help you. i don't use it anymore. You will need to poke around with quantize and if you are using a drum loop - time stretch to make it sound correctly on the beat.

because the sequencer lacks some of more advanced features. it has only one midi (current) track. but it does the trick for simple beats and if you are really into this you can produce some complex shit also. just need to get used to way it works.

Could you tell me how did you record the vynil sample? by its mic or by mixer output?

I got two turntables and i'm undecided if buy this or a cdj player...I think you can be much creative with this..

Yes, it should be more creative than cdj. I used mixer connected to sp with standard L/R RCA cable from mixers master out into SP's L/R IN.

No. You can trigger samples but the sample on 404 will represent only one sample on MIDI keyboard/controller thus no tuning/pitching samples using keyboard.
