I Agree with everything you said in the video! Sondheim is an amazing genius who has innovated the Musical Theatre world. I wish I could be Sondheim. :(
check out the video i posted. Let me know what you think.
Sondheim needs to write more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"No More" is my favorite song from Into The Woods. I cry everytime I hear it in the play. Chip Zein was great when he did it. " Agony" is an awesome song too.
There was a period of time where I would listen to Into the Woods every day when I got home. For me it is Sondheim's best as it speaks about many, many of life's truths in beautiful and gorgeous music. You did an amazing job.
your voice has really evolved; the higher range is so beautiful now. keep it up. Also liked that you kept your facial expressions a little more reigned in than during "Stars and the Moon" which btw was also beautifully sung. You get better and better (and handsomer and handsomer)
Agreed! Sondheim is incredible, and it's great to see you sing this song-- my first musical was in my senior year of high school and I got to play the Baker in Into the Woods-- of course I fell in love with musical theater after that. It's also worth noting that I only auditioned for it in the first place because I had seen a production of Sweeney a month earlier...
I love you for saying this. As a 16 year old, I have learned so much just from listening to Sondheim and I find that his music is not only beautiful, but it's like a flower within that, as you listen to it more and more, the meaning of it all just blooms inside you and you take from it life lessons and words of wisdom.
i played cinderella in into the woods this year... all the music is genious, and this is by far one of my favorite songs from the show :) you sound great
I agree wholeheartedly with you. I heard "No One is Alone" not long after my mother passed away and was about on the floor. Wish I had known about it so we could've played it at her funeral. Sondheim = Emotional Genius
I echo your sentiments about the truth of Sondheim lyrics. I was thinking about something Sondheim says about racism in West Side Story yesterday while watching Bill Maher.
(cont'd from previous comment - stupid character-limits!)
...He is a psychologically astute lyricist with a great ear for rhythm and rhyme in words, but who also happens to be able to compose wrenchingly beautiful music, and I'll always be grateful for having discovered his work. Thanks for sharing! :)
Nice job on one of my favorite songs! I listen to Barbara Cook's version(s) all the time; she's simply amazing. As far as Sondheim's genius, I'm with you all the way. One of my favorite things about him is that he writes about grown-ups, and not just about moony-eyed romanticism, as so many songwriters seem wont to do; as conflicted as they often are, his characters are believable and three-dimensional...(cont'd)
I totally agree with you! Stephen Sondheim is my favorite composer as well. He's so wonderful in his music ans lyrics. Everything he does has a deeper meaning - that's why he's so brillant :-) thank you for posting this video!!!
I went to see Pirates of Penzance last night and one of the guys in the program had the Hairspray national (American) and Asian tours in his "Stuff I landed and rocked out previously" blurb.
I also love that he doesn't like opera. Cracks me up!!!

Actually I think "It isn't gloomy, it's profound." might have been written by the book writer but that doesn't really matter.
Sondheim is a genius.
