  • Saw this demo when I was 12, changed my life. Three years later I finally reproduced that wormhole I so much loved in mode x. This has been an incredible inspiration! I am so happy this video has appeared on the net. Every few years or so I go on a "future crew" Google hunt, just to see if I can find something new. YES! Finally did!! :) Thank you so freaking much!

  • 3:10... song of the whale part 1 by Tangerine Dream

  • Werd up to demoscene history being recorded. I would love to see video from group production work and past demo parties I've been to since the early 90's.

    I miss the ST3 interface...

  • I feel so old now.

  • Oh my god the memories!!! Awesome to see Purple Motion at work... And How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way :) I was probably looking at that at the same exact time. Sweet!

  • Unreal and Second Reality have been a great inspiration to me, at the time. Very nostalgic and cool to see the masters at work. I wonder what they're doing now...

  • @webtweakees Games industry, graphics hardware, music videos etc

  • Thumbs up for an FC reunion demo!

  • OMG This is the coolest thing I have ever seen! Thank you Trug for posting this!! I'm a HUGE FC fan!

  • Noise of old computers fans and HDD's all over the room. grat music from tracker. Geek house! I love it!

  • Yes please...SUB this one...it was a major leap in pc-demo's vs Amiga demo's..

  • Now that is history being made there.

  • Cool to see me childhood heroes, wish someone could subtext this..? :)

  • Wow, way to go!

  • but I loved pascal. anyways you guys where awesome.

  • Oh, I would love to have that transcribed (correctly and not with youtubes transcribe).

  • Hail from ANDESA Soft...

  • I was guilty on using pascal :) Psi and Wildfire used C. I have switched to C since though :)

  • @mtuomi Turbo Pascal with inline asm wasn't too bad... don't feel guilty :P

  • Cool vid.

1:50 Looks like Pascal code with inline asm. I always assumed they used C for the high level stuff.

  • dislike button is useless on this vid

  • 1:38 : f***ing noisy hard drive !

  • Great video, I'd love to see some subs! brings me back to the time dled from bulletin boards with my 2k4 modem haha. Haven''t seen this demo in 15 yrs, great stuff!

  • Wow. Watching Purple Motion (I think that's who it was?) hashing out that legendary theme in what I assume is Scream Tracker.... freaking unreal. I wish I could understand what they were saying.

  • @randrage

    They're mostly planning the demo.

    Nothing special.

I'm a Finn and I find it difficult to understand them sometimes too (like what are they talking about.)

And yes. It's Scream Tracke.r (lol Cream Crackers)

  • dude...wanna pla polo? get off that sweatshirt and stay nerd man

  • great demo

  • dramatic page turning @ 5:05

  • Fins are great but the language is really throat cancer ...

  • Nice vid but where are all the chicks? I always thought that ladies couldn't get enough of demoscene guys...

  • oh no. when I was 4 years old, these guys were rocking... very very ancient computers.. amazing!

  • Whoa, you guys have been my idols since when started with pascal in early nineties also with 2D, hell my talent was nothing compared here and this so historic video 'z.com' throwing dir listings onto screen. Huh, this made me almost cry.

  • I miss making music like this.

  • Brings back some great memories.

  • DO NOT DISTURB. Genuis at work.

  • the blonde guy with the huge glasses is peter hajba.

  • @bachterman - so PM took credit for the song while Skaven actually composed it? :P lol

  • @PrekiFromPoland Actually, Skaven did the intro and outro, PM did the main music. If you listen to their music (like I have for the past 18+ years), you can tell they have two totally different styles (and both are awesome).

  • @drright71 - man, I listen to their songs day by day ;). I know that Skaven composed quasi-orchestral intro/outro. However, I've been quite surprised seeing Skaven messing with PM's song.

  • I had no idea there was such a large collaboration involved.. thanks for posting this video!

  • A brief burst of musical inspiration from Tangerine Dream at 3:11...

  • Oh man, I really really wish somebody could subtitle this in english!

  • What a treasure. My favorite demo!

  • kiitos! Epic footage.

  • You did a great job guys!

  • I guess the face at 5:33 was the inspiration for the lens part of the demo

  • Awesome vid!

  • 486-33MHz taisi olla se normi kone

  • Muistaako kukaan että mitä konetta nue käytti :) amigaa ?

  • @bombheadful PC-koneita :)

  • Aaaaahhhh... the sound of early 90's hard drives-a-blazing.

  • 117 likes and 0 dislikes... Halo forever! XD

  • OMG, this is what the word E:P:I:C was invented for! I remember the good old days, watching awesome demos downloaded from BBS-es late night (cheaper call costs). It was nice to see what theese guys could get out from a 486DX4, a few megs of RAM and a GUSPnPPro (rulz:) :D

  • EPIC - Brings back memories!!!

  • VIKINGS!!!!

  • According to YouTube, this video has 0 dislikes, and i am the 100th person to like this....that shows the power of this demo and the people who love it.

  • awesome, brings back great memories!

  • Smiles with recognition of what computers looked like back then. :) Can anyone tell me who is who?

  • @sininenfithrildi

I think the guy in white sitting on the chair and facing the left computer at 2:00 is Peter Hajba (Skaven).

  • It's like watching Thomas Alva Edison work! A moment of history!

  • I wish someone would SUB this....

  • @2000jago Too difficult, a lot of talk... Main thing is that I understand. :D Sorry for my skills is not enough to translate.

  • @2000jago , it's mainly about the creative process, ideas fly how the images should apper and so on, some humor on "Is this the making of second reality" only to turn the talk back to vectors. There's nothing really special talked about cause these guys were all special on the inside, they knew their shit.

God I love this video, <3 so real it's epic!

  • @Tr3oX Thanks for the insight, but I'd STILL like to see it subbed because fan's of these guys (of which I consider myself one) would find whatever they're talking about interesting.

Even if they're not talking about anything specifically interesting or even pertaining to the demo. Just a little insight to their personality's, sense of humor etc. Fascinating stuff.

  • @2000jago, jeah I totally understand.

  • @2000jago I can sub this, I only need the transcription file first in finnish, then I make the rest!!!

  • @randomforum Can't you just LISTEN to what they're saying and transcribe it yourself? I don't understand a word of Finnish or I'd do it for you..

  • @2000jago well...the...transcribing is...working...sorta...

  • AAAH! THEY RIPPED GRAPHICS FROM MARVEL!! FOR SHAME!

  • I mean dude! ... Historic moment. The best moment of my life when you could switch to the video mode with 2 lines of asm.... I have no idol in my life, except these guys. Respect. Thank you, you shape my computer life and I will always remember what 2nd reality did on my life. - kinematix

  • This demo that participated and won the Assembly contest 1993 used to fit in a 3.5" 1.44mb diskette which is truly remarkable. Nowadays they need 100mb to do something like that. Pure programming. It was so inspirational for me back then.

  • r e s p e c t .

  • Anybody to had english subtitles, pleeeease ? :)

  • @ChandraOJ At least Finnish subtitles are necessary. There is no problem to translate them.

  • Realmente un momento histórico el que sale grabado. ¡Mis más sinceras felicitaciones para la gente de Future Crew!

  • And the thing is, Second Reality was neither the best coded nor the best designed demo of its era. But it was a sign of a new era on the PC and that's why it's remembered. Cheers!

  • @tomcatmwi Bro, I was 13 then Second Reality came out. I was following the demo scene before and after it came out. I watched the assembly entries from several years also. It was the best. Period.

  • @Jallandhara Best on the PC, yes. A very good demo on any platform, yes. But there are several competitors for the 'best demo' of that time, particularly on the Amiga. (Do not argue with historic facts. :))

  • The Most influential Demo of that time. Respect from Canada.

  • Truly a historic moment in the history of computing here.

  • @jasonleehudgins thats true

  • You guys fucking rule. You made me buy my first computer back then just to watch second reality endlessly!!! if today's programmers had 1% of your skills games would be amazing. Today instead of optimizing there codes they say buy bigger computer. You guys showed the world what skill and optimized code could do. Thank you so much for making my life be like it is right now. Without you and I wouldnt be the same!!!

  • Thats awesome!! Sami tammilehto is the best coder I ever seen. He coded most of that stuff on bare steel!

  • I wonder what ASM compiler they used.

  • lol, very nice video! Too sad, that there's no translation.

  • a Legend!!

  • todella mielenkiintoista settiä itsekin tuon aika kauden eläneenä.
