@LuckyDukeSeven That's true, the main army had been scattered after a long campaign against Byzantium. When the Arabs came in larger numbers there were no professional soldiers to fight these battles. Besides, a Sassanid warrior had to train 7 years before he was enlisted. The army were composed by untrained ill equiped peasants, not only did the arabs beat the persian in skill but they also had superior weapons. The scimitar was way better than the axes and maces the Sassanids used.

I'd say that's a fair assessment. But you also have to remember, as the Arabs marched to Tehran, they fought several "200k+" armies, some from client states of Persia. I'm also sure Persia used it's slaves as armies to fight the Arabs (probably some Indians and central Asians)still- the fact that the Arabs consistently defeated these giant masses of troops is pretty amazing.

True, the Scimitar was very advantageous. Although Persians had superior armor/range weapons.

Should have had more Persian soldiers on the field. The battle was been 30,000 Arabs and 200,000 Persians- even though most of them retreated. Man, this battle (reading about it) Is surreal. I don't think the world has even seen such staggering odds. And the fact that the same 20 something thousand Arabians left march ON Persia after this is just awesome.

@LuckyDukeSeven The heavy armoured cavalry proved to be inaffective against the swift Arabic light cavaly. You can't rely on peasants, this is a quality versus quantity example. I am not saying the Arabs didn't won through sheer tactical & strategic means but they had a lot of advantages on their side. Yes their victory was magnificent, I'll give you that.
