  • dont ever run without a prop!! this acts like a flywheel and you could over rev the engine ,also you should never run an engine without any load on such as a prop

  • Delo 500 is a good oil for this eng. and do not run it without a prop. I know i built them for many years with my dad.

  • Hello. I was wondering what weight oil you use in your lycoming. Thanks, Mike

  • @sainthelena1 Hey Mike. I don't own that engine, I just took the video!!☺

  • Hello, Thanks for the advice, I was wondering if I ran without a prop if it would hurt the engine because of balance? Thanks Mike

  • @sainthelena1 I wasn't thinking about that!! I don't know!!☺

  • Hello, I have a lycoming that is ready to start but do not want to start with a propeller on it. Will this hurt my engine if I run for less than a minute? thanks Mike Nieman

  • @sainthelena1 I don't think so Mike, I would imagine you could start any engine for a few minutes without worrying about overheating!! If it worrys you get a few big fans to blow on it!!☺

  • I have a Lycoming r-680-17 that I love so much I bolted to the front of my shop! Check out the install on you tube.Lycoming r-680-17. Love your video! I have pictures

of one that I bought on my facebook page. Mike Nieman

  • The Gullwing was a gimme. The AT17 firewall and mount are a little tougher. I recognise the oil tank.

  • My grandfather worked for Lycoming for almost 30 years. He was in the experimental division and did many tests of this and other engines on the static test stand. He passed away in '97 and left me many things from his days at "The Motors" as he called it. One of them is a museum quality, leather bound instruction book for the R-680. I miss him everyday.

  • @WATERDOG300 Great story Dog!! Your Grandad sounded like a cool Dude!! Thanks for checkin' us out and commenting!!☺

  • I remember hearing that thing fire up clear accross the grounds at Jacktown.

  • @SmallEngineMechanic That guys Ole Lady must be deaf from sitting there without hearing protection.

  • Very Cool engine. That thing was making some wind big time... Did you notice the RED airplane in the picture frame? Was that a De Havilland?

  • @vidman008 I didn't see anything written on it, but it does look like a Beaver!!☺

  • That would be Gullwing Stinson in the pics.

  • @shbruch Thanks Bud!! I knew somebody would know what it was!! You just earned yourself a new subscriber!!☺

  • The only thing better than the sound of 1 big radial is 4 big radials!

Great vid, and this person's setup is awesome. How many times do you see an aircraft engine at a tractor show... let alone get to watch it run.

  • @oldchevy4x4 Thanks Dan!! It was cool to see. No matter where you were at on the show grounds you knew exactly when that Dude started the engine!!☺

  • Love th' sound of those ol' radial engines, music to my ears!

    Two thumbs up, bro.

    Have a goodun'

    D-Ray

  • @BrittanyNicole1990 yeah it was really sick!!☺

  • I wonder if he has ever almost flipped that trailer over.

  • @edzgarage I was wondering if that is a variable pitch prop set to almost neutral to prevent something like that!!☺

  • Put that sucker on a airboat! WHOOHOOOO!

  • @jasongiddensviper478 That would draw a little attention!!☺

  • CRANK THAT BABY UP !!!!

  • @231flash He definitely had it CRANKED UP!!☺

  • It dices, it slices, it would fly if it had wings. Admittedly I trust this engine more than any jet engine out there.

  • @kookiemoose Still runs like a top after 67 years.

  • i always wanted to see them
