  • This Year it's gonna be a latino who wins, Either Archuleta or Castro.

  • nope they both suck!

  • Agreed!

  • Jason castro is latino? whoah since when?!?! anyway I'm pretty sure David Cook will win. Or else he SHOULD. he is definately THE best. I think it will be the two Davids in the final two and cook will win it. =DD

  • Casto doesn't sound Latino to you?? What did you think that the name was german? Not all latino's have dark features. You were dead on about your predictions though, brava!

  • haha whoah I was pretty right!! =DD

They both deserved their spots in the final two anyway and Cook deserved to win!!

oh and yeah I guess Castro does sound pretty Latino...I never really thought about his last name!! i'm very happy he was in the final 4...=D

  • Well names don't mean too much in the 21st century, especially in places like america. For example, black people with Irish names.

  • Yeah your right, But in this case it does. His family is from Colombia. He even sang in Spanish on American Idol. Not all Latinos are dark we come in an array of colors. Americans just think that all latinos are dark and look like the average Mexican. Even Mexicans can be light I'm Mexican and I have Green Eyes.

  • A name can not sound latino... Latino is a racial designation. You know, a label. Someone who is pale will normally not be labelled as being latino. But as being white. At least that's how it is where I'm from. But I hear Americans are weird about things like that...

  • Wow?!?! Open a encyclapedia lately? Latino comes from the word Latin. Latin is a Language. Therefore any Language that is derived from Latin the people who speak them are considered Latin. What happend in the Americas though is Most countries that are Latin Speak Spanish and are referred to as Latino from the word(latinoamerica)though people with Spanish, Italian, and Portugues last names are usually referred to as Latin.. No matter their race. It has to do with Language and culture not race.

  • Yes, and a ghetto is a place where Jews live. So much for your encyclopedia definitions. There is no such thing as actual races. The Humane Genome Project proved this. Latino has come to mean a racial label for someone with a certain look. Hispanic is a Spanish speaker. He is not latino. He's a white American of Columbian descent. I'd heard of Americans being very racialist but this is ridiculous... he is in no way, shape, or form latino.

  • That's what I said, Latino isn't about race it's about Language and culture. My family is descended from the southwestern US and my last name is Spanish just like Castro and no matter what I do I am considered Latino. In the US we all have different heritages and backrounds and Latino is a term that we use. It probably isn't common in Sweden because you don't have the diversity that we do.. But Jason is very Latino he is the very definition of Latino, so is David Archuleta.

  • ...

In Sweden 1 in every 3 people are of recent foreign descent (that is, they, their parents or grandparents were immigrants...)

And we have plenty of latinos in Sweden. Dj Mendez being one:

    watch?v=RsZH1gseTmY

And yes, that could be because you LOOK latino perhaps? It's a racial designation term, as I've said. Columbia and Brazil are two different countries with two different unique cultures. There is no such thing as "latino culture" just like there is no "white culture."

  • Actually I look white, people consider me Latino because my last name is Cervantes and because I speak Spanish, beause my family is from Latin America and Spain. Exactly like Jason Castro. And if there is Latinos in Sweden then you would know that somebody who comes from Colombia or Mexico is a Latino and no matter what they look like. I have family members who look East Indian and others who are blond and we are all Latinos. No matter what a Swedish boy on his computer wants to tell me I am.

  • Well that's the most stupid thing I've ever heard. To me you would be white and Hispanic. And no, I call them latinos because it's a racial designation. And yes, of course they have roots in South America looking like they do. There are several people of Spanish descent in Sweden too and they are white. They are also Hispanic but not latino. Like I said, you are STEREOTYPING. There is no black culture, white culture, or latino culture. That is an INSULT to these countries. You must be American.

  • In the United States, the term is in official use in the ethnonym Hispanic or Latino, defined as "a person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin regardless of race

  • In the Americas as a whole and even in Europe, My mom is from Spain and my father is Mexican and both cultures say they are Latino. I've also been to Brasil and Speak Portuguse and Latino is a term used not only in the States but throughout Latin America where people refer to the broader unity of out cultures as Latino. Regardless of Race it has to do with Language and the fact that our culture derives from Spain And Portugal. That's where the name Latin America comes from.

  • "a member of any of the Latin peoples, or those speaking chiefly Romance languages, esp. a native of or émigré from Latin America."

    That's a directly from wikipedia

  • Good to know that the people of Angola are latinos. :)

My limit is accepting those who live in Latin America as being Latinos. But since this guy on American Idol is not from Latin America he is not latino. And since he doesn't fit the racial designation of latino he is not latino. Latino is NOT an ethnic-group. Never mistake it for being one. It's only the USA who uses your definition (and perhaps people influenced by the US).

  • And he does fit the designation of being Latino because his whole family is from Colombia. Which is in Latin America. And they speak Spanish just like in Chile and have cultural ties to Spain just like Mexico. That makes them Latino. And if you had ever been to Latin America you'd know that NOT all Latinos look a certain way. People of LatinAmerica come from all different Races they have just developed a culture no matter their racial diversity.

  • They say that in Spain, do they? The day I find someone from Spain who calls themselves latino is the day I eat my hat. ;) And yes, you can call yourself whatever you want. Point is that I do not recognise it. ;) And for the last time: Columbia and Chile are in no way the same country. They do not have the same culture. It's usually ignorant Americans who put everyone to the south of them, the latinos, in one culture blob. I'd expect more from you. :/

  • Then start eatin your hat cause they do. I've lived in Spain. And Anglos aren't from Angola you nimrod thats a term to dicribe the people and language of England.. England=Anglo. It comes from the word Anglo-Saxon. Smartie! I though I was having an actual debate with an educated individual not someone who thinks Anglos are from Angola. Anyway that is the way the term is used in LatinoAmerica, The States and Spain. I doubt that anyone cares what people from Sweden think. I know I don't.

  • Wtf are you rambling on about now? In ANGOLA they speak PORTUGESE. So they are according to you LATINOS. And Americans are famous for having stupid definitions and I guess this is no exception. I know plenty of Spaniards and they would laugh their crack up at this. Some probably do follow this definition - the Americanised ones who've been influenced by the media. But no self-respecting Spaniard will call themselves latino. ;) And that's great since I don't care what you as an American think. :)

  • Don't you have some haring you need to pickle?

  • what? LOL

  • Oh get over yourself, the term "Hispanic" was used in affirmative action programs to refer usually to people who's ancestry was from Mexico, Central and South America except Portugual. People from Spain are refered to in America as....Surprise Surprise...SPANISH.

  • Hispanic is a term for someone who speaks Spanish. That's what the term means. I don't particularly care what you use the term for. Spaniards are hispanic. =)

  • Um, no, you are actually completely wrong. I don't vecome hispanic by learning Spanish. But if you don't believe me, how about a little look-up of the term...""Hispanic (Spanish: hispano, hispánico) is a term that historically denoted relation to the ancient Hispania (geographically coinciding with modern day Spain and Portugal)

The term is now used to convey the peoples of countries formerly ruled by Spain, usually with a majority population of Spanish heritage,"

  • In the USA. It's not official here.

  • i hate michael johns being eliminatred. he's such a good singer but gt eliminated because of stupid reasons.

  • He was good during auditions and Hollywood week, but was never impressive once he got to the live shows. He never really stood out after Hollywood (even during top 24 voting). He got about as far as he should have.

  • I don't remember Tom Lowe. It's a shame that they didn't let him on the show, regardless of Simon being at his record company when he was signed.
