At least there are people in this world that are trying to do something to tackle our social and economic challenges. We would give Dick Smith as much of our media resources as possible for his mission to benefit the community.

A great idea & it should stir up a bit of thought , i myself think you could have got more bang for the $ with a trust that funds many clever minds to fruition .While we all put our super into mining & China we will only encourage it to grow & pollute even more . Be aware of the Emporers new clothes aspect of any schemes that dont address the core issues, Anyway Dick good one for at least trying ???????
I must worne you all of most New Zealanders and their leader a Mr John Keys who is for a big New Zealand a right wing globebullist who says he will pull our country out of the economic recession. The fare left the greens,
and the school teacher left ,and white guilt movement, and others on the left how ever want an open borders immagration policy that lets in every one and aney one that says this is bad they call a raceist. This is what were up a aganst.
population growth is only a temporal problem, when a nation is going from underdeveloped to developed, in between the population grows, but one there is enough welfare and social security, population growth halts.
Second:
Esp. australia has large resources to create sustainable economy based on renewables. For instance using solar plants in the dry inlands (concentrated solar power, which competers with oil/coal based elect. prod, from 2020)
I’m not prepared to risk our/worlds welfare based on so many unknowns, we need an insurance policy against this insane ADDICTION to growth now. Why not limit world population now and focus on giving everyone a better quality of life. Why does the world need more people?
This isn't a game Rob, you show no sense of urgency, people are suffering due overpopulation now.
@Planet0fTheApes How do you propose to do that.? It's not like switching a button and you control pop. growth. There are both cultural and social-economic reasons (poverty) that keep certain countries in high population growth. Economic growth THERE is the answer to the problems, while growth in countries which already are rich enough only leads to overconsumption. We need to think globally. It's our interests to get people out of poverty, because if we fail to do so, we face the consequences.
@robheusd A voucher solution has been proposed in the 'Just Say No To More Kids' video in my favourites. No one has all the answers or is saying that it's going to be easy. I’m also for greater use of renewable energy and economic growth in the developing world, but it isn’t the answer rob because the world’s population is currently NOT sustainable. The only responsible thing to do is to start limiting world population now before it is too late. Reality denial is not the answer.
@Planet0fTheApes Just HOW do you propose to limit population? You never answered that one. At least I made clear how that must be done, by transferring wealth from rich nations and peoples to the underdeveloped peoples, in order for these people to become more developed and ultimately the population growth is reduced. Second: although less population growth is necessary, please take in mind also that a too drastic reduction of population is also harmfull, since you end up with a too old popul.
@robheusd "Just HOW do you propose to limit population? You never answered that one"
Yes I did, by implementing a voucher system.
Voucher system -- everybody is given a voucher for their replacement. If you want an extra kid you'll need to convince someone to give you their voucher. Parents that abuse the system are penalised at retirement. The solution must be implemented worldwide, third world countries will need to be bribed with subsidies to get on board.
@Planet0fTheApes And how do you control that if people already sold their voucher, and still are getting kids. Those kids should be killed then, or what?
@robheusd We penalise the parents financially at retirement. The children may even be obliged to support them, discouraging the children from being irresponsible arseholes like their parents.
We can also financially reward those that act responsibly, particularly the poor. If we act quickly to stabilise the world’s population and reform our economic system, we’ll be positioned to eliminate the extreme poverty and exploitation.
@Planet0fTheApes I do not agree with this. Even if it is undesired that poor families have many kids, they do not contribute to exhausting of natural resources and climate change as much as rich people do. The rich and super rich are the real arse holes! The living standard of the richt top 10% are untennable at global level, so THEY are the areseholes, that should lower their consumption. This could then in turn finance the underdeveloped part of humanity.
@robheusd If you think the voucher system is too draconian, keep in mind that the longer we wait the more draconian we'll need to be. The world doesn't need more people, it's about the quality of life not quantity.
@robheusd "by transferring wealth from rich nations and peoples to the underdeveloped peoples...ultimately the population growth is reduced."
Think about rob, if rich nation people had to decide between a) transfer of wealth or b) a voucher system, don't you think they'd vote for the voucher system? I certainly would.
This is a global issue. We really need rub it in their faces to sell the "constant population growth = doom" message because most people aren't interested or just don't get it. If we don't act now, future solutions will be more draconian.

Dick Smith is a senile old fuck. He doesn't give a crap about population growth. All he cares about is hogging the media light. Go away, Dick.

The solution is quite simple.
First:
population growth is only a temporal problem, when a nation is going from underdeveloped to developed, in between the population grows, but one there is enough welfare and social security, population growth halts.
Second:
Esp. australia has large resources to create sustainable economy based on renewables. For instance using solar plants in the dry inlands (concentrated solar power, which competers with oil/coal based elect. prod, from 2020)

I'm proposing we limit world population (I'd like to see a gradual decline long term) by:
a) Implementing a world wide voucher system; AND
b) More aid to the developing world because we care
