Holy shit, just when you thought the Godly Level 42 couldn't get any more awesome, they shock and awe every one of us with this sweet, sweet ballad. Pure aural sex. Sex me in my ears, Mark King.
We know who the 'big bang' on the bass is....Mike Lindup is also much appreciated for both his musicianship and support to Mark--that falsetto never gets old--like Level 42's sound!!!
Yikes!...and I still listen to this all the time! Just got Retroglide and it kicks ass too! The older Level 42 gets the better their song writing becomes. Granted the bass isn't as out front, but Mark King is still playing his ass off and singing! Brilliant band...I hope they never stop making music. Now if they'd just play the states once in a while?
Put a message on their website - Mark and Mike read it regularly so you never know you might persuade them to do a few shows across the pond - good luck!
Love the horns, really perks us this song. This might have been the first time, Level 42 used a horn section. I think this is their best video as well!
They should bring it back - if the BBC can fund crap programmes like Lilly Allen gobs off (sic.) then they can fund something decent like Pebble Mill. Only decent thing on BBC1 in the afternoon is Diagnosis Murder.
Superb funky and memorable. The best version of this was the live at Pebble Mill studios video,if any one can supply it.Never the less,a great track by an equally great group!
A very good quality production on it's very own way ... Good music, beautiful and skillful female dancers, good set up on screen, a good band and a very good and memorable song ... ... in other words a remarkable and awesome video!!!!
whaaaaat??!! You MUST be kiddin'!!This vid blows. Why have King & Lindup sitting in chairs?? That is just stoopid-and they couldn't afford to bring in a drummer & guitarist? At least TRY to make it look they they might be ACTually be playin' somewhere. it just looks cheezey-like the vids you would see on MTV waaay back when
You have a point, to an extent - the video looks a bit 'sexed up' which isn't really Level 42s style (see the documentary Fait Complit) but the song itself is typical of the band - beautifully crafted and instantly memorable. I'm looking forward to seeing them in Cardiff, UK in October :D
yeah my friend its from their last album .. and phil did the drum work on there but wouldnt tour with them .. so its a bit like 3/4 of the original lineup on there at least :) .
One of my favorite albums/cds from them. I guess because Phil was the drummer on the tracks he put his touch on the songs. It kinda of went back to some of there old style with the jazzy, funky sounds to some of their songs. I wish Phil and Boon would come back. Thanx for the video post.
Just when you think you've seen pretty much all the things Lever 42 made, they surprise you again with a quite good video clip no less. I didn't like the song very much before seeing this video, but now I see what all the fuzz is about. Great style, definitely one of their better videos! Was this in the time where all the other guys already left? Because the cam focusses pretty much only on Mark & Mike in the videos from that time.
Phil Gould was studio drummer on this album in 1994, and as a fan of his work, I found it a downer that they didn't show him at all. Sharp drumming, tight sound!! - KLS
It was indeed - Boon and Phil left in late 1987, and Phil (according to Wikipedia) was less than complementary about the band's sound at the time, saying he'd get more fun playing songs like the ones they were making at a holiday camp.
Boon might come back, who knows, but Phil won't - him and Mark don't see eye to eye.
It sounds more like 'Go West' but its still a nice tune, just not L42? Still coo

You must remember that at this point, Level 42 was pretty much Mark & Mike. Phil was on the album, but that was about it.

Anyway, this is a clean,
good quality and memorable
