Family Matters, Perfect Strangers, Who's The Boss and the Cosby Show!
God how I miss these shows.
Family matters is still on on tbs and other stations once in a while and I have the Cosboy Show on dvd, but I really miss Perfect Strangers and Who's The Boss.
Man I wish they would release this on dvd already. I really loved this show growing up!
My favorite part was the episode where something catches on fire and they're both in there with a fire extinguisher and having a fire extinguisher fight!
@taramattiest I know Tara... TV Land is NOTHING like they used to be anymore. It was ashowing the classic's that made TV Land a cable channel everybody wanted and now nobody want's! I can watch Roseanns, Everybody Loves Raymond, The Nanny, Home Improvement on my local channel's They need to go back to what made them GREAT. Suggestion's>>> Perfect Stranger's, Cannon, The Fugitive, Barnaby Jones, The Street;s of San Francisco, The F.B.I, Gomer Pyle, Petticoat Junction, Happy Day's Family, .....
@HayleyComet, yes it was a live audience. I think most sit-coms were filmed before an audience.
As an aside: I've noticed that people in general tend to assume that comedy shows all have "canned laughter." Whenever sitcoms are discussed, you will always encounter those who (derisively) refer to the fake "laugh track" even though the laughs are real. In actuality I think very few shows used laugh tracks, and when they did, it was very obvious from the style of filming. (Get Smart, Brady Bunch)
@WastedPo By the late 70's most sitcoms were filmed in front of an audience, but some of them would still make use of laugh tracks during certain parts of the show. I know Happy Days and Diff'rent Strokes both got a lot of use out of laugh tracks when the audience they had didn't laugh in the "right places".
@James76255, yes, but there's a difference between using the occassional laugh track in the sound mix to enhance the final product, and assuming (as most people literally seem to) that every single audience laugh in every single sitcom is "canned."
They really were perfect strangers. Two Academy Award mainstays, Linn-Baker and Bartokomous. They were really the voice of the generation, or maybe even the voice of the 20th century. Maybe the voice of humanity.
I don't get what is funny on the outtake from the episode where Vince comes to their home after being released from prison (the outtake where they are both sitting on the kitchen floor and Larry bangs Balki's head on the counter)... That scene has several scripted head-banging incidents, so why laugh about it? Me confused.
I have a feeling that this might have been a first take, and the head-banging incident may have not supposed to have occurred at all. They probably decided to have that as a staple of the scene later. Maybe not, though. I'm just going off of an interview Bronson gave once where he said that all their unscripted ad lib scenes are still planned out. They could have done this and then put it in the final version later. *shrug* Whatever happened, it was funny.
These were shown on talk shows Bronson and Mark did back when the show was on and were about the only bloopers I'd ever seen aired for the series. Seasons one and two are out on DVD but no word yet on the rest of the series being released.
Almost all episodes are available here on YouTube. Just type Perfect Strangers along with the episode name & there you have it. Each episode is divided into 3 parts.
The sound was dubbed on to show Mark stepped on his foot, and yeah, I'm sure with those heavy ski boots Mark had on it didn't feel too good, especially since Bronson was just wearing socks at the time! :(
There was another person who had a lot of great Perfect Strangers Clips but they deleted all of them...they even had the Karate Kids clip and the one where Larry is scene as an old man pining for Jennifer and Balki is all rich and high class....can you find those?
I'm sorry, we don't post any clips from the episodes themselves, just PS related stuff. But there are others on here who have clips, just search for "Perfect Strangers" and they should come up.
I remember when I first saw this after watching all the clips on YouTube how astonished I was when I heard Bronson speak out of character! I don't know why it surprised me so much...
Hey I saw the mom from Family Matters on here. I forgot she was on here at one time, and I saw on the TGIF intros that Staci Keanan was on going places as well as Step by Step. Ironic where people start!
Yes, Harriette Winslow was originally a character on Perfect Strangers, and Family Matters was a direct spin-off of Perfect Strangers! A lot of people don't even know that. :)
I've never heard any such thing, and it doesn't make much sense to me, but I guess it's possible. How exactly are the two shows supposed to be connected?
It's absolutely true! Jo-Marie Payton France played Harriette Winslow on Perfect Strangers starting in season 3. She was the elevator operator at the Chicago Chronicle. Her police officer husband, Carl Winslow (played by Reginald VelJohnson) appeared in the PS episode Crimebusters. They wrote Harriette out and gave her her own show, Family Matters. Balki and Larry even did a scene in the first episode of Family Matters which was sadly cut out and never shown.
Oh, I see. It's probably because they cut that scene in the first episode of Family Matters that I never connected the two shows. Come to think of it, I don't think I've seen the very first ep. of either show. I always watched 80's & 90's sitcoms sporadically. Anyway, thanks for knowledge! Now I know something else that lots of other peopl don't know.
I have a quick question that I hope someone can answer for me, what was Balki's toy sheep/lamb named? Please somebody, anybody tell me I can't remember for the life of me and it's driving me crazy lol.
this so funny im only 12 and i lov this show i got the all 8 seasons of the on dvd on the coumputer u con get but it's a $108.99 for cost of shipping it adds up to $132.00 im still waitting for it
Anyone selling episodes online are selling bootlegs, and sadly I repeatedly hear stories of people either never getting what they order or getting inferior product on broken discs with no chance of refund. Please, do NOT buy from anyone online claiming to have the shows on DVD, the show has NEVER been released on DVD to date, they are all bootleggers!
u should put more outtakes up. if u have some, that would be great. cuz mark linn-baker is such a nut! haha. they're both so funny! you should totally put some more outtakes up.
I didn't get to catch this show on tv having been born in 1988, but I watched it realy early in the morning when they aired it on Nick a few years ago. Stupid me didn't figure out until about two years ago that Bronson Pinchot didn't actually talk like that. :/
How in the world did you ever manage to get the whole series on DVD ?? I have been trying but the only places that have them are the sites that everyone says are ripoffs !! -I would love to get the series with good quality --HELP !!

Oh! I loved this show as a little kid, mostly because I loved Balkey's innocence.
All that laughing in the background... This show was filmed in front of a live audience? Somehow, that doesn't sound like a laugh track to me.

Yes, it has an audience.

I think it was the fact Mark threw his head back so hard and hit the stove by himself that made Bronson laugh and then Mark followed suit.

It just would seem odd that given how they are sitting against something hard, it would not have been planned / scripted that way...

It was both of their heads banging against something that made them both laugh.
