wow...am i the only guitarist left in the world that plays by ear? i dont need tabs or sheet music, i hear something i like...guess what i figure it out....am i alone in this?
@mustangomike A lot of it depends on how someones brain and pattern recognition is wired, you can take my word for it. I myself know music proficiently in a way that would be seemingly abstract or not possible to function with, in terms of my decisions to go about things to a person such as yourself, one adept to 'picking things out' by ear as it were, likewise... I cannot for the life of me teach myself to do things by ear like you can, it is in some way beyond me.
@mustangomike well i guess you may be one of the few people who can do that with guitar. I can with basic pieces, but as I am not an incredibly accomplished guitarist that is my limits. I do have a similar guft with piano though, adn can work anything out and even compose my own, adding twists. I am currently working on a song that uses same intro and music as Brahms Serenade
@Soulfree2008 Standard music notation is a wonderful language. And easier than expected. I know--- I suffered from "note anexiety" for many years, but finaly decided to give it a try.
Insult?--no, it's only the best advice I can offer! Give it a chance and enjoy the pleasure of managing the small steps! Good luck!
A joke among musicians: How to stop a guitarist from playing?--- Give him a sheet of music!
I play this piece... I have always played it a little faster, but I truly regret doing so all these years. Your much slower interpretation is beautiful. I made a similar comment on your cello prelude I video... very nice style!
Thanks - I ran upon you while looking for the sheet music for Bach's Sarabande in Eb. What book was that music from. I love the touch you have... lots of emotion there. ;-)
Pero no tanto en sarabande. Esta es una magnífica interpretación, a la altura de la que le hubiera gustado oír a Bach. El fanatismo en la tendencia interpretativa mata a la música.
Lovely video and everything comes together here, soft lighting and a most precise sound from this well chosen guitar (not even a single buzz). And not to forget the musician's talent!
Your playing is absolutely beautiful. Many congratulations on your musicality. Sarabands I think really do make a test of musical interpretive abilities. To know when to use a vibrato, maybe hold a note longer than notated, it's all much more emotional than most people outside of the classical music area believe. I like your sound.
A Zoom MRS 802 harddisk-recorder, two microphones, Shure MS94 placed about 60 cm away (one pointing on the 12th fret and the other at the middle of the fretboard) My "home studio" is a little, "dry" room.
I import the recording to Sound Forge 8 on my PC and add a little reverb. There are hundreds of effect possibility, but I don't find them interesting to my kind of use. A bad sound from the guitar can't be improved on my audio editing program!
of course,, but bad recording equipment could make your guitar sound bad. So, thanks for the specs! I thought it was a little bit of reverb. Dry enough room too. kampai
thanks for posting... you play it very well. I have only one mention- dont be afraid of putting more emotions in this composition. And even more (not hardly but just..) mezzoforte in the begging and some parts :) But I like your performance :)
Beautiful interpretation. I learned this piece when I was studying Classical guitar. I occasionally played it at more than twice this speed and it still sounded valid. Bach was a special human being.
as a sarabande i would preffer it at a slightly faster tempo, i feel it truely brings the dancing feel to it. Which is more like the characteristics of a sarabande. But never the less it sounded quite magneficent.
Dear Tor, Sir, You sound like Segovia!,bravo!. You really have the sound for Bach. I would play this piece the same way.You are truly wonderful to listen to.Thank you so much for sharing your videos.
You have inspire me to play once more in this life time.I always believe that sound (quality)is above all more important than speed and loudness.I believe that the guitar should also express your own inner love for life and music.
Why do I try to put together these few notes over and over again for many many years and never get I the way I want it to sound?? Still I have the pleasure of trying?? I don't even try to answer. "I don't know why I love it like I do, I don't know why, I just do"
One thing is for sure: We have a lot to be thankful for in life!!
wow really impressive playing. it's always great to see somebody playing Bach with such great interpretation...I would be so proud if in my video of Bach was such a great feeling...
The first time I heard my own recording I felt horrible and I didn't play for over a week. That was nearly 40 years ago.Keep your hands mowing! "Use your brain when you are praticing and let your heart sing while you are playing". I stll don't manage to get the sound I'm seeking,(and I never will) but that don't make the playing less joyful. I'm getting closer. If you are able to hear sounds from your guitar you don't apprciate that is the foundation for developing you playing!
"Oh I love your version 'Torisand'!Thankyou for All of your Wonderful Posts.' I learnt this from 'Frederic Hand' who plays it faster than you do, however, I prefer it at your tempo. I'm also abit of a 'rebel' which gets
me into trouble with 'Purists' as I like to improvise and embellish pieces - maybe abit too much! But I'm certain that the Great Bach

Him and the amazing music he's left for us all to enjoy and play! As usual - an A+ performance"
I envy your ability to improvise! I'm locked to the score. Frederic Noad is a great musician and I play several of his interesting pieces. I hear, in the back of my mind, the lovely sustained sounds of the violin while I play this Sarabande and that why I "stretch" my guitar as I do, too much?? May be!!
i believe that is better to take it a bit slower in the notes that are alone with some vibrado to give the filling of the violin. A bit slower in all piece would be good but its ok. Good job

Very nice. Bach had these things for simple melodies making great pieces (never heard this one before).
I would've liked perhaps some little speeding on some part to create some tension. Might be foolish, just a guess.
Still, you get the 5 mate.

a real musician can only do that, you have gone through the notes on the paper and created a connection with the music.
