I love this song with all my heart,don't get me wrong, but kiedis was way out of tune on this night. I've found that with other live renditions as well, kiedis can sometimes be almost half a tone out of tune. It was probably because they were touring madly after californication came out and his vocal chords were shot. This doesn't change the fact that he was an amazing lyricist and on-stage personality with a beautiful voice and aura.I think that they were the best band around at their prime.

the touring was one issue, but i think what really caused this was the fact that he was back on coke during this tour. the drip down the back of the throat will make any amazing voice sound amateur

@kricka137 He was actually clean by then, but I know exactly what you mean, and that was the cause of his inability to hold notes for long on the 1987 uplift mofo tour. Has anyone else noticed that?

@DoobleyDooBAH na actually even during the 'by the way' sessions he was using. this concert was before 'by the way'. he lied and said he was clean but john, flea, and chad found out and they helped him out by putting him in rehab. read scar tissue

@DoobleyDooBAH I just graduated from Sound Engineering school, and theres a thing where playing live that if the sound guy doesnt fix it, the singer will be out of tune due to the sound waves from the instruments going to the end of the venue and bouncing back, by the time the sound comes back to the stage, it is slightly out of tune, so if the singer is singing in tune with what he/she hears, then they will naturally be out of tune of what the instruments are playing.
