  • Hey, I'm a member of a local circus right now and I would LOVE to improve my flexibility. Right now, I can get my foot to my head but not both feet at the same time. And I really want to get that so I can move onto chest stands. Any stretching suggestions? It would be GREATLY appreciated! (And yes, I'm willing to devote a lot of time to stretching but I don't want to hurt myself so I want to do the right stretches)

  • thats pretty cool! it's obvious you've been stretching a lot. i'm also working on contortion. my back is very naturally flexible, but it needs to get just a little farther... hmph. it's really hard to stretch your back without hurting it!

  • yea, its normal to be in pain, sadly

    i realized at some point that by stretching almost everyday, you can minimize the long term pain greatly and improve your flexibility

    all you need to do is be careful of your limitations and pace yourself. if you consistently practice, you'll get better. check my channel soon for stretching and contortion videos

    Hey, how do you stop yourself from flipping over when you're trying to do that chest stand thing? The pose at 1:51.

    I've been working on it (with pillows below me) and I keep flipping over. D: How do you stop your self from doing so? Cause if it wasn't for pillows, I would of crushed my nose. LOL

  • umm, hi, what kind of things are you doing? becuase my back would hurt also. befor you go to bed try to bend it in diffrent ways and then agen when you wake up. also whenever you reetch forword press your lower back down.

  • well ive been trying to do the bridge aswell but then the next day i was in pain but now that i try it doesn't hurt that much so idk

  • yes it normal my muscles tend to do that sometimes but if it hurts alot then wait abit

    try doing lots of back warm ups before you get into the pose. it takes time your body is not maybey not use of the stretch.

    I'm 16, I've been practicing for a year and a half, I've quit stretching for now so I'm not thinking on this as my career maybe something related to it, and well, I'm not stretching so probably if I try to do all that a stuff, it will probably hurt a little bit.

  • It depends on the natural flexibility the person has, I mean there are a lot male contortionists as well as girls who are wonderful. But women tend to have more natural flexibility than man do, so it CAN be (doesn't mean that it is!).

  • hey for the first move you did, doesnt that hurt the right side of your back? everytime i do that, my right side of my back has more pressure than my left. i try to keep my hips even but do you have any tips or do you feel it too? thanks!

  • i cant get to a chest stand myself because i have short legs. if i had long super skinny legs i could have no problem!

  • There's no need to be skinny to do contortion. I am not tall anyways and i have no problem.

    I think you should work more on your back flexibility so that you can reach the floor.

  • You've got a great talent. Ive got a naturally flexible back so I am recently trying to teach myself contortion, the only problem is my arms arnt strong enough to take my weight so when im in back bend I cant shift my weight from my feet to my arms to lift my feet off the ground. How were you able to shift your weight from your feet to your hands or strengthen your arms?

    no, you learn how. by the way, as long as you stretch, and dont go too far past limits, (practicing and getting better and better)its not bad from your back or anything at all

Un comentario: cuando hagas un chest-stand con los piés al lado de la cabeza, trata de llevar el peso un poco hacia atrás (el estómago), levantando tu cabeza del suelo, como uno o dos puños de distancia. Esos ólo es posible con un grado de flexibilidad de espalda como el que tú ya tienes, y es más estético.

  • you can learn it by just practicing all kinds of splits, but also learn how to do bridges and try to get your feet closer to your hands.. try to search for contortion exercises, or contortion übungen( i think thats the word)and you'll be flexi in no time!

  • True, a few months ago when I triplefolded for the first time I could breathe perfectly, I entered it from a pyramid though.

    well I usually train in my room, it's calm and I don't get distracted by anything (unless my mom calls me for dinner).

    I train every other day, so i guess i train 4 or 3 times a week.

    what do you mean with 'it hasn't been working''? you are not improving or you are improving but still can't get into a chestand?

  • like i improve in other ways and i stretch my back but when i try to do a cheststand, i cant go all the way down onto my chest...

  • you definitely should do that because every time i watch some sort of contortion video and you read the comments, you often see that people really stretch wrong and force themselves! its a great idea!:)
