I was wondering.. D300s.. worth buying? or wait? since im in desperado mode now.. I had my D80 for 5years now.. and Desperate to change since i work with sport.. and D300s + MD-10 = success (8fps)..
I'm using Canon 7D, but I watch your video for relaxation and to enjoy your gracious talks! You are really cute when dress up like this. Good contributions for the needy guys who need a lot of learning the trade. Wish you all the bests and success!!
I would never hand my camera to a stranger, especially in Italy or Greece. Too risky. Pickpockets hang around the monuments asking to do this for you, only to walk or run off with your camera.
@heavenwithin81 They are all mine (D3100 replaced D60 for me). These are the tools that I work with and I do not buy new cameras/equipment unless they are a good investment for my work. In short, you lost the bet. ;)
I had a nikon d2x but brother bought it off me.I am back to using nikon fm2 with motor drive for soccer photos and 1600 speed film as better than nikon d2x.Wait for new nikon pro dslr to come out so se why happens.
Very nice video.Do you still use the nikon d2x for night time sports photography.I find above iso 800 to hi1 and hi2 strings are pretty useless for night time sports photography with slow glass.Whats your opinion.
thanks for replying... fairly decent equipment.. more hockey and baseball but I would also like to take more pictures with different sports too... and for the equipment everything I can afford for extra after the camera for 1200... I take sports photograpy but never got the corect camera that could use the attachments. Looking to start a buisness.
@noahturnzy A D3100 and a few lenses would be a good start. Ultimately, if you want to do this as a business, you will need to spend more than $1200 on the combination of a lens that can focus well in low light for indoor sports and for continuous aperture lenses, like the 70-200 f2.8, which cost more than $1200.
@BIGredsArtWORLD19 I am very happy with the D300s in low light. Everyone has a different threshold for noise, but I, personally, am comfortable shooting ISO 3200 with the D300s.
@BIGredsArtWORLD19 It will work with any Nikon lenses that are available as new lenses today. There are some very old lenses that will not work properly with it.
I lent my 1-month old DSLR with 30mm f1.4 to a guy who was a bit drunk, probably drugged, whom I just met. He spent some time with it, lying on the ground and what not.
I got great pictures back, many out-of-focus, but fitting the scene very well. And a funny movie :) Should you try this at home? Probably not. but I realized that great photos aren't necessarily the technically perfect photos I was trying to make. I'm doing stuff differently since then, still trying to let loose like that guy!
@RareRubyImage There is no right or wrong answer here - you will get strong opinions for both. Personally, I would opt for the D7000, as I like the dual card slots, I own DX lenses, and it sells for a discount compared to the D700. Everyone has their own preferences and must-have buying points, however :)
i AGREE, lens camera of which there are many. You need one basic item that Nikon or any other manufacture cant give you. Its free but very importtant, and with ANY lens cheap or expensive you will NEVER fail to take great shots. An EYE. A creative eye is ALL thats needed. Whatever lens you use, or camera, will only be a bonus.
@RareRubyImage D700 will still be a better camera for a photographer. It is full frame, has better high ISO performance, and because of the larger sensor you get shallower depth of field. D7000 had advantages of being quicker out of the box, and having a very nice 1080p video with manual exposure. I have both, D700 is about 1.5 stops better in high ISO performance. If I had to chose one, as a pro wedding photographer I'd chose the D700 by FAR.
@Transane Funny - that is almost exactly what I have done since this video was made... except I'm still trying to figure out what the next sweet lens will be!
My lens collection has just begun, as i just got my D70. Ive been shooting with a super old Olympus, which i love to death as its limitations made me a far better photographer then i would have otherwise become.
my plan... cover the bases! started with an 18-55 EDII (should have bought a VR, but i have steady hands and wanted to save the money till i can afford a better lens). soon to get a nice telephoto...
@Transane Hi! It sounds like you're off to a great start! Unless you plan to shoot in dark conditions indoors, something like the 55-200 (VR or not) or 70-300VR are nice lenses. The 70-200 is very heavy to lug around - but the results are impeccable :)
@BfoSHIZnats On the D300s, Live view has two modes - Handheld mode and Tripod mode. In Handheld mode, the mirror flips down on the half press, removing the image from live view. In Tripod mode, the mirror stays up on the half process, the camera uses contrast to focus, so the image stays on the LCD screen.
@lepermessiah01 I use them fairly interchangeably. I use the D2x mostly in the studio because of the integrated vertical grip. The D300s is lighter in the field. I am more "used to" the D2x because I have been using it for years. Either would be good for a photojournalist. The D300s is far superior in low light, high ISO situations.
AdamBoon - There is virtually no reason to choose the D2x over the D300s. I do enjoy the virtually-military-grade build quality of the D2x, but unless you're going into a war zone, the D300s is the better choice. D2x battery is better, but the D300s can use the same battery with the optional grip. As far as image quality goes, the D2x is great at ISO 100. At ISO 400 and above, the D300s is many levels of magnitude better.
How do you find the D2x's image quality compared to say, the D300s? I'm considering buying a D2x myself as an upgrade to my D40x. Is it worth going for the D2x considering it uses a much older sensor?
Close! Actually the D60 is my absolute favorite for grabbing and running out the door with. I use the D300s and D2x for pro work, but he D60 is the one I love.
