"O those of My servants who have transgressed against your own selves, despair not of God's mercy. God does forgive all sins, for surely He is the most forgiving most merciful one." (39:53)
I tried Ramadan once just to try and experience it, I lasted about 20 days. I tried it just to experience what being hungry feels like, I guess that's the point, experiencing want. But for the rest on huge giant 'meh'!
@byrnesielives Trust me, it IS hard. To think that you, and every single one in your family and most/some of your friends are all mistaken and have been deluded all this time....I mean, I wasn't even religious at all. But it took some time before I stopped being offended at Jesus/Christianity jokes. And took a bit more time to think critically of my former religion. And even a bit more time to openly criticize it. Losing faith is a gradual step-by-step procedure. It's part of growing up =)
Sorry to hear ur "ex-muslim". Too bad you don't know even the basics of Islam, otherwise you would've known that these "non-practicing" muslims would still get their due punishment in the hell fire. And for those that pretend or have no belief in their heart, they probably wont even see heaven. But despite all that, even a practicing muslim wont say arrogantly that their definitly going to heaven. Judgement isn't with you or anyone except Allah(swt).
Most of my family say they're Christian but have absolutely no association with Christianity other than getting married in a church or 'celebrating' Christmas. I gave up trying to tell them that they're all basically Atheists/Agnostics years ago. They're blissfully happy with their daft little faux-faith. Bizarre!
Perhaps they hope that Allah is more merciful than he has historically been believed to be. My quasi Muslim friend says he does Ramadan because his family does Ramadan; maybe there is some keeping up appearances for mummy and daddy but this is the way he pitches his involvement in Ramadan to his friends that have first hand experience of his haram ways, i.e. drinking, keeping the bong warm, hitting on every pretty young thing with a pulse, etc...
Technically, they don't really fast at all, they just can't eat between sunrise and sundown. hey can scoff themselves silly after dark... so of like saying a woman is a little bit pregnant. You should either fast or don't. Seems a bit half arsed to me.

Also, was this first uploaded before the beginning of the last Ramadan?

It's probably somewhat of a cultural thing now - like Christmas in the West.
