@Blinkyboy99 Yeah, def overrated, largely down to studio trickery and couldn't be played properly live, I love the song and consider Johnny Marr the greatest guitarist ever but this song seems to take pride of place over other songs he's written which I'd say are better.
Whoa! Hamilton Bohannon was the genesis of How Soon Is Now?! I'm a pretty well-listened guy and can usually hear where stuff is coming from (and a guitarist, to boot), but I never would have caught that if Marr hadn't divulged it here! Cool!
@Blinkyboy99 true 'nuff, Water is only 2 H's and an O, but when you put them together, you get wet. It's not the mechanics of it, it's the poetry. The Edge's work has a lot of effects, too. The total composition is guitar plus effects, plus the time and space around them...
It's all about the tremolo. Marr is a genius.
