OH-MY-GOD it's terrible !!! Please stop it ! I'm a cello teacher and I feel insulted by the way you teach. Please if you're a beginner, this DOES'NT HELP. This man is not a professional cellist, plays wrong (oh my god- his intonation) and gives wrong informations !!!
@cascaritadenaranjita i dont know anything about cello, thats why i watch these vids, but who has all information or that much as the expertvillage? if theres better place i will go, but i cant afford real teaching so i teach my self by watching youtube vids and what is good cello for beginner, that is good enough, but cheapest in my towns store is 1200 euros, they say its cheapest kind, i dont want crap one, is 1200 euro cello crap?. i dont wana buy new one in a long time.
also, if you're learning from anything besides a real life teacher, don't learn from expert village. they really DON'T know what they are talking about.
instead, there may be some better videos on here. you can really trust people's comments. they are trying to help people like you by saying that this guy is bad.
there is a book by maria kliegel, and it has a DVD, I don't know about the level, though...
Wow, you guys all sound like snobs! Can't the a guy in Iraq learn how to play while he is serving his country!? I play many instruments and know that this has a lot of improper things in it, (like everything in "Expert Village") But I applaud the effort, to get FREE lessons out there for people just wanting to get there feet wet. Nothing replaces an instructor but for free, you can't beat this!
I find it humorous that this program is called "expert" village and is taught by someone who has the most inefficient bow arm and can't play a single note in tune.
Beginners shouldn't even watch this video, because half his terms are wrong, his intonation is terrible, and he's leaving out a good deal of the notes. If you really want to learn, please get a real teacher.
does he know that a tarantella was a dance to get rid of the poison in your blood when you are bitten by a poisinous spider...? it sounds more like someone 60 minutes after eating dodgy fish....
The intonation should get some work before it is used as a teaching piece. Also, to the person below me, learn to type or nobody will take you any more seriously than the guy in the video. Seriously, what are you, twelve? And chello1, I don't see why you should be correcting people if you can't even spell the name of the instrument.
first of all ur celo looks a little to small b/c i would know this b/c i have been playing inn an orchestra for 3 years ! duh and 2nd of all your wrist is to stiff u shoud fix that or else if u dont than u can hurt yoursellf and 3rd of all uuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr elbow isnt even up or atleast not high enough if ur elbow is more higher ur sound will sound better............. dddddduuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhh and bye the way u look like a stiff dick wat is wrong with u
3 years in an orchestra and you cant type properly? I thought if your in an orchestra and your playing proper music, you'd at least be able to type properly too.
@myalovekiet this made me laugh almost as much as the video.
if you don't know anything about the instrument, please just don't say anything.
at a certain point (called the 4/4 cello), you can't go much bigger (unless you have it made special, but, seriously, why would anyone do that?), even if you, like, duuuuh, would like know it because (a.k.a. b/c) you played in an orchestra.

What is your problem "Chello1"! For most people watching these lessons are only for begineers anyway if you are that advance you would not be sitting in front of you computer getting lessons of you tube. We cant be all perfect like you. He has done more good with the videos than harm. My advise, if you dont like it dont F@$#*@^#&$ watch!!!!!!!!!
Actually learning on the computer from a hack does more harm. Proper technique in the beginning minimizes the likelihood of suffering a strain related injury in the hands and wrists. It's fine to learn on your own but the fact is that the man spreads misinformation about cello technique and this is detrimental to a student's health and progression.
@Dan221075 just don't get your lessons from the "expert villager" here
he is really really bad! you will not learn to play the cello. by the way he sits and positions his arms, he will not even teach you to sit at it properly.

Just an FYI it's not called sliding, or atleast the more common term to address this is called a 'glassando' Btw please work on intonation...

@FlinckJanne1981 you can rent a cello.
although this means monthly costs for you.

@Connielthomas beginners are where he will do most HARM!
that's the point!
his technique is horrible. his hands are positioned in a way that leads to tendonitis pretty soon once you practice for longer periods of time.
