i dont think the is any problem with trying to make promises even though we know WE cant keep them. we can do nothin and God knows that, he knows we are sinners living in a fallen world but nothin probably pleases him more knowing that we are trying and saying the words and wanting them to be true is probably just as good as being able to follow through with them.
I sometimes wonder why it is that some people are more "into" worship on the parts of the songs that are emotional musically? I also wonder why we sing songs making promises to God won't always keep? Is that genuine worship?
I made a typo...I meant promises to God that WE won't always keep (e.g. "I will live to love you, I will live to bring you praise, I will live a child a in awe of you")
1) Simply put, we're swayed by our emotions. If it's emotionally stirring, faster music we're bound to get more into it.
2) It's called making and reaffirming. Dunno about you, but every day I try to say the prayer of salvation, 'cause I know every day I sin and turn away from God. =P
3) Yes, it is. If you spend your time doing something for God, it's worship. Doesn't really matter what it is, with the exception of something against his will.
hm when we sings songs like that, i.e. i will live to praise you, you're all I want etc, we realize that He ISN'T all we want; it makes us aware of the change that needs to be made and spurs us on 2 change! :)
i believe emotional parts in songs can be used for God's glory.. but ultimately it has to be the truth and reality of God and the gospel that brings conviction to us, even apart from emotionally satisfying songs/poems etc. so even when we don't feel like worshpping God, rmb feelings are volatile and KEEP PRAISIN' HIM!! :)
If you're singing and expressing that you want to serve Him and just pouring your heart out to Him, He recognizes that, and He blesses You. He knows we're sinful creatures, He understands us, but thankfully Christianity is a loving God seeking to make us whole. HE ALONE is God od all, and HE ALONE will change our hearts, and so what if you stumble, God is there reaching down to help you up. :)
luckily for us we have a God who completely and thoroughly understand our weaknesses, infact if you read Psalm 139, it says expresses that God knows us even better than we know ourselves. How amazing is that? God is a God of all compassion, and He looks at our hearts.
