I don't know what happened there. I want to listen to this song when I'm drinking which is not to often now. I realize it is past the days I was crowd surfing at Edgefest having a blast, but I just want to live the dream.
@witness10643 I will agree that Finger Eleven started in 1989 as Rainbow Butt Monkeys and I Mother Earth started in 1990, but every time I have seen Finger Eleven live (3 time in total) they were opening for I Mother Earth. Hence the me thinking they stole the do from Jag. But either way it doesn't really matter, lots of people have the same haircuts :)
@lancecclendening nonono, not so much about the haircut. Its about the style of playing guitar. The way Jag strums and stuff... his performance personality just seems so much like Rick Jackett. Though it's entirely possible that they both learned from each other and both developed it while touring together.
So is Jag the same guitarist IME had way back then?
@witness10643 OK gotcha now. I think the style of guitar was a part of the era as well. A lot of bands were doing that at the time and a few still do for that matter. As to the band line up, the only person in IME that isn't original is the Singer. Edwin left and was replaced by Brian. Something you may not know too, Jag is the writer of the group.
@lancecclendening Really? Man, that dude's got talent. I haven't heard a whole lot from IME, but songs like "One More Astronaut" just blow my friggin mind. SUCH good music. Jag definitely earned my respect. Thanks for the info!
But F11 is still uber-awesome. I just pretend they never left the Greyest of Blue Skies era. haha
politics? honestly people, politics? why. the FUCK, are you people talking about politics, let alone arguing about it. if you love your country, love it, if you ahte someone elses, or hate on their democracy..just leave it the hell alone. and people wonder why theres so mych animosity between earths peoples. its because of people like you, bitching about the unnecessary things. bitch about global warming, bitch about the things that will ultimately destroy us all as an existence, not as a people
@19wayfarer19 Children will always complain. I mean children in a figurative sense, not literal, for the record. People that have never grown up(probably never will).
Wouldn't worry about it, or bother associating wiht them: stop to gawk, point and laugh at their expense -- but otherwise disregard the dregs of society. :)
I Mother Earth is one of those bands that managed to survive a change in vocalists. I would even say that their albums with Brian Byrne is better than the material they produced with Edwin at the mic.
It reminds us that the power of the band is not necessarily connected with the lead singer. I believe that Brian is not a better singer than Edwin, but he certainly puts a lot of effort into his singing and makes the song sound very earnest.
@Scrap5000 It's all good, us Canadians all know that you Americans like to bring up the issue of our supposed "Socialism" because that's what your Government feeds you to keep your mind off their climb to Fascism. You guys will be taken over by a dictator and trying to conquer the world and you won't even know it because you'll be too busy looking for turrurists and wondering about Canadas political standing.
@Scrap5000 If you spend your time doing the same you belong to that 90%. Worry about your own Country and stop looking for shit that isn't there. It's textbook mindfucking that's working perfectly on you and a ton of your countrymen.
@Scrap5000 I guess your definition of "Socialist Government" is any that require their citizens to pay taxes... last I checked we're more Capitalist than you...
actually Edwin went solo and had some good stuff check out Alive, Hang Ten and others. Now he sings in a band called crash karma with some new good stuff out....
I mother Earth got better with every album despite the singer, brian byrne was luckily with them for the top two albums of their career! so good! nothing has ever had the same sound previous or present! man i miss them
I was reading about this band & guitarist on another vid in which someone claimed this guitarist is very influenced by Carlos Santana, Hendrix, and SRV. However, based on his playing in THIS tune, I gotta say his playing is quite amateurish. So, which tunes to I need to hear to be impressed?? Does this guy actually play any badass leads? NOTHING on this tune caught my ear & it's quite formulaic. I'm assuming you people on this thread would know...What should I be listening to from this band??
you wont find any of there good older stuff on youtube but he does rip it as does the bass and drums usually..this is more generic then there old stuff its more progy too...i dont know what happened to them haha hope that helps
So Gently We Go, No One. Anything from their first album. This song is from their last album, whci in my opinion is not mainstream at all, but others think it is!
Listen to songs from their first album Dig like Rain will Fall, Basketball, Levitate and maybe even some from their scenery and fish album like Used to be Alright.
Maybe they weren't so much his influences but rather provided inspirations. I'll claim some guitarists like Andy Summers provided a lot of motivation for me to become a great guitarist, but if you heard me play, you'd find no sounds of Andy Summers
listen to the album "dig". it's more progressive, the songwriting is better (different singer), and the instrumentation is wicked. the guitarist is pretty bluesy and he definitely is skilled though he may not be showing or implying it in this song.
songs is good but the vid disapoints me. Kinda how like finger eleven guitarist used to go crazy on stage. that was cool but this just seems of a fad that ime are following. maybe its just me but thats how ive always felt about the vid for this.
LOL. You are a dumb shit, IME has been around much much longer than finger eleven, besides the fact that this band never followed a fad, which is exactly why they are fucking incredible.
wow way to not prove anything. I never questioned whose been around longer. This IME album has been around AFTER finger eleven greyest of blue skies and tip album. i compelty agree with ya. rick jacket is the f11 guitarist. the used to be called rainbow butt monkeys haha. i mother earth to me is one of the best bands to come out of canada ever. i just never liked this music vid they put out...
Dude, Edwin McCain is not the Edwin from IME. McCain is some pussy who sings the ballad "I'll Be". But Yeah, I agree Edwin wouldn't have fit very many of the songs on tQMD, and I wouldn't want it to be without Bryan on vocals.
This and Rain WIll Fall are my favorite IME tunes. I didn't like much of the Byrne era (He's a fellow NFLDer tho!!), but this song is IME at their best no doubt.
Quicksilver meat Dream in my opinion was there best album. Brian Byrne's vocals are great on every track. Its a damn shame they are no longer around!!! Mind you Brian Byrne is now making country music...whatever pays the bills I guess.
I wish they would've kept going the same road they took with this album... It rocked my world when it came out! I don't give a shit about Edwin anyways.
I got all of their stuff - its hard to say if one is better than others. They all got some really strong songs and some weaker ones, too. I liked both singers. I think QSMD is their most balanced, most intrique and most complex material they produced. Too bad they are not around anymore. When I am in bad shape, all I have to do is to spin their stuff and all of sudden the wolrd is a better place for me.
i was bored and browsed youtube for lost 90's rock video's and ran into this one. What a great video and song. This song sends me in a journey. I've been following IME since Dig, which I still have, and this is the best song by the group - Edwin or no Edwin.
I appreciate that, man. I think Dig is arguably their best album, but I don't have it anymore and I listen to the other 3 albums as much as I ever listened to Dig.
Does anyone here know any good funk-metal bands that are kind of like IME? I know like RHCP, Janes addiction, and I guess Alien Ant Farm, but I dont think theyre as good as IME.
love ime, from the first time i heard them to the last album they'll always be to me the best band from canada...true fans will hold their fav songs close for years to come...i wanna say thanks to the band for their music and hopefully future work as well...ime 4ever
I have quite an extensive list of bands that I love. But if I were stranded on a desert island and had a choice of five albums, they would be Lateralus by Tool, Superunknown by Soundgarden, Purple by STP, Tales from the Punchbowl by Primus and Scenery and Fish by IME. I know Edwin's a douche bag and everything, but I remember the summer of 1996 at Edgefest in Barrie, these guys blew Our Gaydy Peace off the stage. Too bad they couldn't resolve their differences. They would have been huge.
one of the best vids in a long time...ime was great with both brian and edwin if you're a true fan you appreciate n support every album n song, shame the band isn't around anymore tho, by the way a band doesn't have to be big to be good.....ime 4ever
Can your dad squash an apple with his bare hands and not even flinch...I mean no eye movement at all...To this day i'm still amazed. And he could bust more but were not the bragging types.
I dunno.. I'm a little old (31), but I absolutly loved the two albums with Ed. Dig and Scene both sounded very original (Dig especially). But this, and I'm not trying to start shit, this just sounds like evry other top 40 rock band out there right now.
Just one man's opinion. Dig and Scenery are AWESOME albums if any newer IME fans have not heard them, do yourself a favor and give them a listen for a few weeks
DIG was amazing and a pretty unique record, and after its release the industry was all over IME. Almost immediately there was pressure to change the sound, look and style of the band, until you got this...not a trace of originality. They were a heavy jam band drifting towards concept albums but suddenly, haircuts and 4 minute songs. Hah, I sound like a bitter old hippie!
actually blue green orange has just as many long songs as dig and scenery. You dont sound like a hippie, you sounds like someone who hasent taken time to sit down and listen to the two albums that IME released with brian. People like you are the reason IME lost all their support and ended getting dropped by their label.

This is at least as good as thier old stuff. But I listen to their old stuff more.

When I am in bad shape, all I have to do is to spin their stuff and all of sudden the wolrd is a better place for me.

any ideea how can I got all their stuf ? I looked everywhere... nobody seems to have more than pieces...

i was bored and browsed youtube for lost 90's rock video's and ran into this one. What a great video and song. This song sends me in a journey. I've been following IME since Dig, which I still have, and this is the best song by the group - Edwin or no Edwin.
xeliteagentx 3 years ago
I appreciate that, man. I think Dig is arguably their best album, but I don't have it anymore and I listen to the other 3 albums as much as I ever listened to Dig.

its not a 90's video

Does anyone here know any good funk-metal bands that are kind of like IME? I know like RHCP, Janes addiction, and I guess Alien Ant Farm, but I dont think theyre as good as IME.
zekethehillbilly 3 years ago
Give early RHCP a chance. Very funky stuff..

Jag is an incredible guitarist. Unbelievably creative. Buy the album. Or check out the tunes on the Quicksilver Meat Dream myspace page.

I dunno.. I'm a little old (31), but I absolutly loved the two albums with Ed. Dig and Scene both sounded very original (Dig especially). But this, and I'm not trying to start shit, this just sounds like evry other top 40 rock band out there right now.
Just one man's opinion. Dig and Scenery are AWESOME albums if any newer IME fans have not heard them, do yourself a favor and give them a listen for a few weeks
honkeylips27 3 years ago 2
DIG was amazing and a pretty unique record, and after its release the industry was all over IME. Almost immediately there was pressure to change the sound, look and style of the band, until you got this...not a trace of originality. They were a heavy jam band drifting towards concept albums but suddenly, haircuts and 4 minute songs. Hah, I sound like a bitter old hippie!
boz0scaggs 3 years ago 2
actually blue green orange has just as many long songs as dig and scenery. You dont sound like a hippie, you sounds like someone who hasent taken time to sit down and listen to the two albums that IME released with brian. People like you are the reason IME lost all their support and ended getting dropped by their label.
