I have the 45 rpm vynil record of Aretha Franklin singing precious lord part 1 and 2 on chess records blue chip series label with original prtective cover. Along with Rev. w. Leo Daniels 45 also in interested in a part of history e-mail bob94561@yahoo.com. make offer
I just saw Aretha Franklin sing "Precious Lord" in front of the President and the Vice President just now at the MLK Memorial - she kissed Obama and Michele but she didn't even acknowledge Vice President Biden and his wife. She didn't even look at them. Did anyone else notice this? I am sure it will get some criticism and despite it being the MLK dedication, you don't just snub the Vice President, even if you are the Queen of Soul!!!!!
Can you imagine a voice like that coming from a 14 year old child. But unfortunately this was around the same time that Aretha got pregnant from someone that she has never identified.
@dmo1950 fuck you, dont act like you know what god thinks wrong or right,go read ya bible or sumthin,if say god damn, doesnt mean im tryin to offend him,im never gonna disrespect my creator fool
Thank you for posting this. I bought this album over 20 years ago and have not heard it since the last days of turntables. It's a remarkable song. 14 years old! Aren't we lucky someone saw for to record it! What a cultural document. Her voice is so sharp and vibrant. The woman can sing anything. She is outstanding. Let's all hope for the best for Aretha at this time.
Love it. The Lord was workin that lil girl that Sunday morning. 5.17 is the run where she wipes the church out. From then on in they're kinda stunned.
Oh Lord... Hallelujah!!! Oh Lord... Thank you for giving us Aretha Franklin, somone with an extraordinary voice who was abble to sing your Glory! Ho Lord!! HALLELUJAH!!! Halleluja Lord!!!! Hallelujah!!!! Bless this Word!!! Thank you for all your benedictions our King!!! Thank you!! thank you so much!!!!
Oh My God, with the tears streaming down my face, i haven't heard that in years, I remember as a child when my Father used to sing in a local Quartet, and they would play music before and after them, this would be one, that even then not understanding it all, would stir something deep inside, WOW, but now I know for myself =) God bless you for posting this, I was feeling one of those days....but now can get through it
@shelton1397 No, we all moan. Some just do it out loud and in the public. Moaning in naturally in the spirit of the oppressed and the least of these. However, one day at the name of Jesus every tongue shall confess and every knee must bow. One thing for sure ain't no tea party in heaven.
at 14 I was playing piano at the gethsamne Bapt. Church, and in fact most black folk were in somebodies church back in the day, but we's all uppity now, we don't go to Church, and are oh so suprised that we could sing like this at 14,but anybody from the day know's that there were a whole lot of singing sisters back in the day, that could tear a church up, you start at 11: am, and stop shouting by 3 or 3:30 or so, politics killed black folk, that and hair straigtner
Thank you so much for posting this song....this is equal with BB in 1960...fantatic.... precious Lord take my hand and guide me...Kind regards to you and your family, from way over here down under, to everyone way over yonder..Peace, love and happiness to you all and your loved ones...in the beautiful name of JESUS!amen..amen...amen!

Does anyone know if she played piano on this aswell? I know she had the capability to, just not sure if she occompanied herself on this recording.
EmpressMahalia 3 years ago
From my knowledge she didn't play on this. I've always imagined her standing in the front of the church belting her little soul out.
