Lulu talking shows how LONELY the cutie ist... :((( It makes me very sad. And you should never buy parrots that are sold that "cheaply".... I bought two blued heads at €900 an they are absolutely worth that money...
@philokalia1 I actually got him at the end of November!! They had him in the store for over a year so they were asking for a $200 donation. He's been with us for almost 2 weeks and he is VERY attached to me. He's super quiet unless I'm talking to him or letting him listen to music...or listen to other birds...I don't let him SEE them b/c I want to keep him bonded to me for right now.
So you finally got one that's great! Lulu is kind of funny he only sings and talks when he thinks no one is listening; like when the dryer is making noise or the vacuum cleaner is running. Then he tries to compete with the noise. Then you shut the vacuum off and there isn't even a peep.
@philokalia1 LOL Murphy is the same way! If I have the TV on he is talking up a storm but, if I push mute to hear him better, not a sound! Drives me nuts! And most of the time he will talk with me just fine but if he sees my husband looking at him, he stops instantly. lol They are too funny.
Hi Ivan the Pionus is not known for great speaking abilities, although with patience and love I imagine they could all reach the Lulu's speaking ability. This parrot species is the most docile and quite. They are very friendly and never bite. I highly recommend this type! It ranges about $500.00!
Currently Lulu can speak more words than he does in the video.
I don't think everyone out there would agree with my advise to you but it does not really matter. Just handle your pionus daily like twice a day consistently everyday, whether he likes it or not. Preferably before it is his bedtime. When he lets you hold him whistle and talk to him and make kissing noises they like that. If he bites hold this beak and tell him NO! If he bites hard wear gloves. And try to bribe him with food.
@mrmultimoviemakerman Mine REALLY hates my 5yr old daughter (b/c I spend time with her). He bites her when she tries to pick him up. I had her start picking him up with gloves, then I leave the room to let them "bond" for a while. He's gradually getting used to her. Next week I'll start having her hold him and stay in the room. He likes my husband just fine which is strange. Best of luck!

If you dislike noise and are afraid of getting bit by a big parrot- then Pionus is a terrific choice!
