You're correct, to a degree. Christianity in general does not do this. What most people label as "Christianity" is really Roman Catholicism. The Catholics were responsible for the Crusades and almost every other war/massacre in the name of God, hence the Holy Roman Empire. The sect that I belong to is nothing like Catholicism except that we worship the same God. We don't follow the Pope because the whole idea of a Pope is stupid and basically only exists as a tyranny.
