The creation story in Genesis is not to be taken literally. It was originally a poem, passed down through the generations till it was written down. I believe in evolution, but I still find the idea that over a ridiculously long time we developed from single cell organisms - that just seems absurd.
That is a disgusting and disrespectful view on a very real aspect of human life. While I respect you right to free speech, it is a deep spiritual connection that many of us have. Parts of the Bible of course can be taken literally, like, you know, all the parts about love that everyone conveniently decides to ignore.
But you need to be careful about how you put Christianity in a box; FUNDAMENTALISTS take EVERYTHING in the Bible to the letter, CHRISTIANS do not. CHRISTIANS follow everything in the new testament as much of it repealed the old.

I used gravity as an example to convey the improbability of god. You wouldn't consider objecting to the existence of gravity, due to the huge about of evidence contradicting the possibility that gravity might not exist, Just because its 'possible' gravity might not exist doesn't mean its wise to consider the idea. Likewise, its possible god might exist, but doesn't mean it should be seriously considered considering the contradicting evidence.
There's a difference between believing in God and believing in the church. If you believe in the church, you believe Dara is going to Hell for insulting the Lord by daring to insinuate that he did not create us according to the manual we wrote.
If you believe in God, you'd be wondering how Dara can't get into Heaven making us laugh with a sense of humor like that. Does God care more about his pride or the fact that biting the inside of our cheeks was an amusing design flaw?
to be honest i dont believe in god at all, but alot of my friends are religious and i respect that. i have no problem if people believe in things that i dont. we are all different. but what really gets under my skin is when people force their religion onto other people or use religon against others. its at the point where you hurt or affect other that religion becomes wrong.

The creation story in Genesis is not to be taken literally. It was originally a poem, passed down through the generations till it was written down. I believe in evolution, but I still find the idea that over a ridiculously long time we developed from single cell organisms - that just seems absurd.

Ok, usually i love Dara but here he just makes me feel ill. I'm, not big on the whole religion thing but i'm willing to accept the possibility. He won't even consider that he might be wrong which makes me feel very disappointed when he's obviously a very clever man.

There's one thing to accept a possibility (eg I accept that 'god' could exist', BUT the probability that he exists (and also that gravity doesn't exist) is so low to the point that it then becomes silly/irrational to think that either possibility is true.
I'm sure that he considers the idea of god, but quickly concludes its highly unlikely because he's a very clever man.

@OTimeMasterXO Oh i just want to note, in regard to my last post, I not necessarily think that the idea of an intelligence creating the universe is too 'out there', only that the God of the major religions is even more so unlikely. What with the who creation/miracles/in his image/always existing etc its highly unlikely. Believing an intelligence made the universe bt not having those characteristics is more likely.. although still no reason to pray/go church/worship etc...

I used gravity as an example to convey the improbability of god. You wouldn't consider objecting to the existence of gravity, due to the huge about of evidence contradicting the possibility that gravity might not exist, Just because its 'possible' gravity might not exist doesn't mean its wise to consider the idea. Likewise, its possible god might exist, but doesn't mean it should be seriously considered considering the contradicting evidence.

There's a difference between believing in God and believing in the church. If you believe in the church, you believe Dara is going to Hell for insulting the Lord by daring to insinuate that he did not create us according to the manual we wrote.
If you believe in God, you'd be wondering how Dara can't get into Heaven making us laugh with a sense of humor like that. Does God care more about his pride or the fact that biting the inside of our cheeks was an amusing design flaw?

to be honest i dont believe in god at all, but alot of my friends are religious and i respect that. i have no problem if people believe in things that i dont. we are all different. but what really gets under my skin is when people force their religion onto other people or use religon against others. its at the point where you hurt or affect other that religion becomes wrong.

@Pein740 Goodness can be someone helping someone who needs help just because, not because God would want them to. And an otherness can be simply that there can be more than us out there in the universe, or more to know about or own world rather than us being the only ones created by a perfect God. I could be right, you could be right, but being Atheist over religious doesn't take anything away from the world, it just adds something different. I have religious friends and we respect each other.
