Dennis was great but a cry baby, he wanted to hold them back from touring....sorry but LG is a pretty good replacement.. Get over it fans, everything always changes...
Wow.. I just saw Styx touring without DDY.... And DDY doing a performance without Shaw and JY... but WITH an orchestra and with some chick playing piano for this song. Figure it out dorks. Apart you are 1+1 and together you are 4. DDY not even playing his own piano? No thanks... Ill watch the DVD or youtube. Save some dollars.
This song meant I lot to me growing up. But I didn't realize until now how good Styx were playing live. The musicianship and vocals here are as good as any band I've ever heard.
Totally brings me back to 1980 and the hostage crisis, gas lines, high unemployment, Jimmy Carter's 'Crisis of Confidence' speach, and 18% interest rates. Even more meaningful today with the current situation in the US and the world.
One of the very few bands who could consistently do stunning live performances, such a shame that nowadays most bands greatness is 100% made in the studio for the brain dead MTV generation.
Somewhere I've still got the worlds first laser etched vinyl single, which I think was this song?
"Somewhere I've still got the worlds first laser etched vinyl single, which I think was this song"
Indeed it was - it was the first single I ever bought as a kid. It was hung up on the back wall of the record shop and I bought it without ever having heard the song. As it turned out the song was a timeless classic.
I like the ending as it gets softer at 6:00 especially the three last cords on the keybord with piano and symphasized strings. How do I know that? Well I play music myself. I play
I always got the feeling I was listening to a Broadway show whenever De Young sang -- very theatrical. Dennis DeYoung was such a brilliant songwriter and one of the most underrated voices in rock history . A timeless song very apropos to the hard times the U.S.A. seems to have fallen into.
ive lost 2 greyhounds to cancer..and the line",...our memories of yesterday will last a lifetime..." always gets me, even though the pain is still there, i can smile. great fucking song! thanks for posting it.
I so wish the music these days was even half as good as this, the show as a whole must have been such a feel good experience. Bring back these guys that brought us such talent and timeless classics.

the piano,
the drums,
a bit of guitar,
the accordian, and even
pipe organ. Sweet! a?
