  • you bad ass stupid motherfucker, did u knew that for testing a sword in old japan they putted a bunch of bodies 1 over another and depending on how many bodies the katana cut with 1 single move, that was the perfect way to determine a sword sharpness and power, u are a fool deepshiet, try cutting your balls so you can test your stupidity u asshole FU .I.

  • if you keep on testing low grade swords in this fashion, one day you'll end up with the tip flying off and through your brain...

  • Too bad SBG doesn't respond to inquiries. I really wanted one of these when I first heard about them. I asked a good, relevent question and got no response so I bought somehting else. :(

  • Poor Katana..... :(

  • one hell of a way to cut the hedges!!

  • using katana for such a purpose is just mistreating the katana.

  • mid life crisis much?

  • Wow there are some stupid people leaving comments here. A katana does not have ceramic in it and yes T10 is way more durable then 1060. T10 is known as tool steal or high speed steel. He is testing for durability of the katana people and that's his job to do so. Oh and news flash a katana does not really have a soul, not really!

  • Really katanas are high tempered steel and it has like small bubles inside made of ceramic, ceramic can cut A LOT.

  • @Megabine LOL, what are you talking about. Katanasteel is just carbonsteel. Iron with a relatively high carboncontent.

  • i feel sorry for the sword. =( i realllyyy wanted to have one

  • All these videos are done by fat gyes

  • Katana Power!

  • Hes not holding the sword properly

  • At 1:18 i was like "noooooooooo ill take it no need to torture that masterpiece"

  • @TheBeyondBeast jeez just shut the fuck up and go see some anime

  • @TheBeyondBeast That sword is nothing but a soulless massive production product. It is nowhere near the rank of "masterpiece".

  • he's really asking for the nerd rage though by testing "beloved" katanas. kids are seeing swords that they beleive are able to cut through tank barrels get smashed up, and they just can't take the strain of their weeaboo fantasies being torn apart in front of them.

  • @Treifla

    This. A thousand times this.

  • I like the video where mythbusters fire a 9mm round dead centre to the blade of a Katana...check it out.

    Now thats testing.

  • @goolash85 No. The bullet is just soft lead and any edged piece of hard steel will cut one.

  • HEY....,,, GREEN PEACE..DUDE.. !!!

  • Lol

  • you are a retard sir...why the hell you cut a live plant...idiot ruin katana

  • @poljoprivreda That.....was his objective??

  • LOOK AT HIS USERNAME. "SWORDBUYERSGUIDE". DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS? HE'S TESTING THESE SWORDS. NOT DICKING AROUND WITH THEM.

  • i want one..

  • is not original men :)) replica shet :P

  • Now thats a tuff sword. I like your vids

  • were would be the best place for me to get my blade repaired

  • so, the best katana steel for heavy work and cut is the T10?

  • Yep, you are 100% right Beethovenvirus. If you are a master swordsman you strike with the sharp edge of the sword and block with the flat larger backside or dull side always trying to get the attackers sword to break or come so dull or badly chipped cracked etc. Depending on just how fast you are with that sword if you can turn it in time to block the attacking blade(s) sometimes you dont see the blocks unless their movement stops.

  • What is really the purpose of test torturing the katanas? Katanas should be taken with great care, not for quality test. Any katana is just as good as long as you know how to use it. Haters come at me.

  • @SplitsofAce

Well, no, a katana of stainless steel is far inferior to one of t10 steel. Specifically, the stainless steel has been known to break on contact with any hard object, with the broken half occasionally embedding itself into the wielders body as it flies off.

There's a reason they call stainless steel swords 'wall-hangers'.

Even real samurai would test their blades; last thing you want in combat is a sword that breaks easily. Quality is important =)

  • @SplitsofAce NOOOOOOOOOOOOB

  • second cut to the barrel did nothing ahahah

  • pioneer in the sword breaking industry. Hey kirk, stop advertising your buddy. Hes a goof, we don't need swords. I'd sooner kill a man with my SOG Tomahawk before I draw a fucking queer's jap sword.

  • @snipeefox you sir a racist and ass...but hey thats your problem

  • @snipeefox you play too much black ops my friend, you need to be more of a warrior not a gamer.

  • @snipeefox you would try and kill someone you horrible person. and if that person were to have a katana like this one, you would be dead before you could say "queer jap"

  • @snipeefox Just imagine:

Paul 3/5 meeters away from you with a Wind katana,

You with your faggy little tomahawk .

He draws and starts running at you, you drawing your TH and trying to aim/handle it.

He is slow but he gets to you in 5 seconds.(including the draw)

You sound like such a COD wanabee that even if he threw the fucking sword at your face, he would probably still kill you before you could fire.

  • stupide...................

  • In that first scene, is he cutting oleander? That stuff's pretty poisonous lol

  • will it blend- katana sword

  • This is like the worst music ever.

  • Just wondering as some state. Why the hell would someone buy a sword from a guy using it the same way he would an axe?

You don't test a sword that way. You line up 20 prisoner peasants and charge at them atop a horse and glide the blade across their neck lines.

How many heads you cut off, gives the blade its proper temper.

    Have a nice day. =D

  • 0:57 we"ve already got axes

  • 123 people don't understand the concept of a Torture Test. Great video, extremely impressive sword for the $330 price tag :)

  • Ok, so T10 is very hard and can be ery durable if heat treated properly.

Is it harder or "stronger" than 1060 steel?

  • Btw: this sword is better.

    /watch?v=YdFmVZ0aAWo&feature=related

  • I actually flinched when he did the metal drum...

  • lol, now i know wat ill use to trim my shrubs at home....

  • 0:10 can i try it at the park

  • Samurais are rolling in their graves. Fat guy is using katana for chopping wood. Awesome.

  • @happzy Samurais were put in those graves by peasant rebellions. Screw em.

  • @happzy 1 go to America and then learn about fat.

2 read the last 2 words in this video's name.

  • I wander what would happen if you killed a burglar with a sword. If you shot him, it would be ruled self defense but I wonder if the rules change if you kill one with a sword like this.

  • @MrMadmardin Both are deadly force. In both circumstances you "feared for your life and the safety of your family and took action to defend yourself and family", so I would say yes. Problem would come with the jury being a bunch of liberal milksops if you are unlucky.

  • Handmade Munetoshi Take Katana Samurai Sword dfor 129.99 black can it do all this in the video? will the blade bend easy like the 1060 carbon steel?

  • OH GOD NOT SMALL BRANCHES

  • Apparently the vast majority of YouTube viewers are basement dwelling illiterates that A. Cant read a video description and B. No little to nothing about swords or Tameshigiri. Paul does 'destructive testing' like this at the behest of both the manufacturers AND the end users. He does this to show that the sword can take an excessive amount of abuse thereby insuring that normal use wont result in catastrophic failure. Please go go back to your cartoons and action figures and let the adults talk.

  • no lifer with to much time on his hands

  • No lifer with to much time on his hands.

  • OMG-.- only the katnas tip should ever be sharp(except if its FAKE)

  • @eldest201 what the hell are you talking about first off, no sorry just no, the katana is sharp from habuki to kissaki, and another thing where did you learn that a katana is only sharp at the tip. Do you mean the last 5 inches, yes that is the "Cutting" zone in a sense but that dosen't mean the sword is dull but to that point.

  • @toxi87 That guy is an idiot. Or simple a troll. I'm no expert, but as far as I recall the only catanas that have sharp tip and dull blade are those, that are used for kata practice. Just ignore that silly troll mate :)

  • @MadeofBlackIce yeah i was still taken aback by the comment, it just surprised me.

  • This is fake katana!

  • My scouts knife xD and i got it for free so waste of money >;D

  • what a waste

  • my $5 machete can do all of that...

  • @naruto2278 australian metal weaponry wins this time... lol

  • @naruto2278 I'm sure it can, but thats what machete's are designed for. Katanas weren't. Katanas were designed to cut flesh and bone. Not wood. The fact that these Katanas can do just as well (if not better than) what a machete can do and go beyond what in the past would be unthinkable to do speaks for the durablility of these particular blades. Hence the title of the video. :)

  • if you keep cutting that tree there wont be any branches left :O

  • im gonna go get some wood in the forest *getting my katana* xd

  • There are some real schmucks on here. The title specifically states that this is a destructive test. The "idiot" in the video is Paul Southern who is a major player & pioneer in the sword industry. This video is to show you how much of a beating his custom made katanas can take. The goal of the video is to break the sword. He was testing a prototype from the forge. So to make a long story short, none of you douche taints know a 100th of what Paul does about swords! PS - Buy a T10 custom katana!

  • @kirk11977 well played sir:) well played

  • @kirk11977 well i do agree, but you dont have to call all of us douches because of that, because some people really do not know these facts. It was stupid of the downloader to name this video destructiveness of katana, because really, what is the point of smashing a sword against a barrel?

  • @kirk11977 Actually, he doesn't make the swords. He just tests them.

  • @kirk11977 Yeah, it made a nice clean cut on those sapplings, and split a block of wood(rotten though). The axe comparison was a fail; I won't even go into that one.

  • @kirk11977 A "pioneer in the sword industry" I really do doubt that

  • BASEBALL Slash!

  • who the hell has a bunch of steel drums behind there house

  • @ericC091987 Me.

  • @ericC091987 said "who the hell has a bunch of steel drums behind there house"

Everyone know that steel drums is the best way to dispose of corps. Body fluid won't leak out and they can be rolled to move them. Traveling with load of steel drums is also less conspicuous then black body bags. Putting sewage or septic dig out on the first drums will also discourage opening of the remaining.

Do not fuck with anyone that has 'a bunch of steel drums behind there house'.

  • i can do the same thing if not more collateral dammage with a chainsaw or a axe, well at least not a dull axe

  • i can do the same thing if not more collateral dammage with a chainsaw or a axe

  • Getting a t-10 katana custom made, can't wait to try it out. Thank you sword buyers guide for all your help!

  • that tree must have done something really bad to you XD

  • stupid idiot, Those swords isn't meant for everything. Just because they can cut woods, water bottles, or any other things doesn't mean they can cut metal barrel without destroying the sword itself. use common sense please, both object is made of metal. one is shape for cutting and one is shape for storing things.

  • @AndyDude1412 the label says "DESTRUCTTIVE test" he is showing how hard you would have to hit the sword to break it. and I doubt that most people test on metal barrels so that is a good test.

  • way to ruin your sword

  • Dear basement samurais: please stop rambling on about how this man is debasing GLORIOUS NIPPON KATANAS and read up. This is for a review. He's destroying them on purpose, to test just how much a certain line of (typically cheap-end, amateur collector level) swords can take before giving. He's hacking a steel barrel like a brute on purpose.

Basically, if a sword holds up well enough, this is where the real level of workmanship is tested. It's meant to break and get damaged, it's just about when.

  • @Nakedspaceman1 lmfao fucking laughing hard!

  • coomercial: are you sick f using a axe to cutt you trees og sick of using it on wood so.. try! kanthana only 4000 dollars! in stores now!!!

  • @no1isperfect4anyone WTF did you say? English please!

  • Samurai-san!

  • @MrKaamill That's Samurai-sama to you.

  • you should never be alowed to rape a katana like that again, a butcher knife would fit you better i gues.

  • That must be a good sword a shame u treat it like trash. jk

  • That must be a good sword a shame u treat it like trash.

  • Is this a parody?

  • if you know how to use katana, you'll cut than this video better.

  • Did anyone else cringe when he hit the barrel with the sword?

  • terrible form, you do NOT hack with these swords.

  • my mexican macheta does all that and more with out a budge

  • What up with the indian music?

  • All of you spouting off about how Paul is misusing the sword, are missing the point. This was deliberately destructive testing in order to determine what it takes to damage or ruin the blade - it was INTENDED to go far beyond appropriate use. As for all these comments about that not being a "real" katana, come off your high-horses. A Cheness katana made from T-10 spring steel is a razor-sharp piece of weaponry, made with far better tolerances than 99.5% of traditional blades.

  • Katana or any sword would and will chip from metal barrel, those things are made to last. You never were meant to block with sharp edge.

  • @Beethovenvirus wrong, that metal isn't strong enough, true samurai swords get tiny chips from blocking making them more deadly serated edged blades. tool steal is hard enough but how many times was it folded?

  • @Me102288 its REALLY obvious you know very, very little on this subject....

  • @bobjoemagee I guess so, you should watch how a real samurai sword is made then.

  • @bobjoemagee I guess so, you should watch how a real samurai sword is made then.

And I didn't mean it was a bad sword, I meant its not a traditional samurai sword.

  • @Me102288 "terrible form, you do not hack with these swords" wrong video to comment on

"metal isn't strong enough" you mean hard? it has a lower rockwell hardness so it wont chip

"making them more deadly serated edged blades" serrated.... and thats just retarded

i know how real samurai swords are made. and no shit. thats been said by everyone, i dont know where you fell off the bandwagon

  • @Me102288 from what i understand, folding was used to distribute carbon in tamahagane, the iron they smelted from riverbed ore. modern steels do not need to be folded, and are done for, either aesthetics such as celtic patternwelded swords, or just for the plain fact so i can be called "traditionaly" forged. this is if you are using a modern steel of course.

  • @Beethovenvirus i know in european longsword fighting blocking with the flat is used, is it used in japanese dueling?

  • @frozenwalkway You dont block with the flat in both of those, european or japanese. In european longsword you use your false edge against opponents flat, pushing or binding the sword, with katana or any single edged you use the true edge. If you block edge to edge, your blade WILL dent, dents are nearly impossible to remove without thinning the blade and dents cause very, very small fractures in blade that weaken it over times. I'm sorry that my english isn't superb, it's my second language. :)

  • @frozenwalkway Also if I am not completely wrong, japanese used stockpiles of swords in battles because metal was so soft that against chain they dented footman's blade or got bent and after skrimish they'd bring broken ones to the quatermaster in exchange for new one?

  • @Beethovenvirus yes unless life your life would have been taken your ment to parry reguardless

  • simply put, you get what you pay for.

  • Alright, now lets see you kill a man.

  • have you ever gone to like a training corse. to use a katana. like gone to a school to train with swords?

  • Why would you do such thing

  • Me thinks that some of you know very little of metallurgy.

  • is that a folded or forged blade

  • @baddmint you are kidding right? can you please explain to me, what do you mean by that folded term?

  • @welbhloud folding the traditional way to make a katana the blades folded a number of times it causes the softer metal to migrate into the middle of the blade and the harder to stay on the outside hence the blade is flexable but still sharp

  • That sword has to be a replica of an original designed and made katana, a metal barrel wouldn't never chip the blade, maybe scratch it but not chip, And these tests are not for a katana, maybe a cheap piece of metal cut and shaped like a sword, but never ever a katana.

  • @jason1164 check this: v=5Hy_A9vjp_s

  • nie ma co kurwa szacun za sciecie galezi

  • THAT REALLY IS NOT A ORIGINAL SWORD! And you have no idea to use it! Just hand it to a master....after you buy a new one, because that one...you had wrecked it!

  • @rcsibiu destructive test lol

  • you done sellin that sword...

  • yo corto ramas mas gruesas que esas con mi machete

  • How about...Tensa Zangetsu?

  • you dick those swords are hand made asshole the dude who made that sword must hate you they take like a month each

  • @alexchinatown

They seem to be making or selling these swords and want to show how good they are. They are made from tool steel not by a sword smith in japan.

  • @alexchinatown the sword is 300 dollars trust me that's not hand made

  • @froliciouspanda true... it is too thick to be real

  • @protoneClub Hmm, couldn't catch a good view to see that. But in every case Katanas are among the thickest swords throughout the world. I don't know exactly why, maybe their method of using different steels made it necessary (sandwich-method), but the result is a blade which is quite heavy for its shortness. And that's why the greater longsword for example has around the same weight because its around half that thick. My personal genuine swords are: Katana 4-8,5mm thick, longsword 2,5-4mm thick

  • @froliciouspanda When you purchase a handmade Katana you pay for the enormous craftmansship behind it, and you can be proud of possessing a work of art... But unfortunately you can't say it is better. It is even probable that it is inferior because a laminated, folded blade has impurities and may have welding failures. This depends on the capacities of the swordsmith, but a well tempered blade of the right modern steel is probably superior...

  • @Railriderchris i never said that, I'm just saying hand made katanas cost a lot more

  • @froliciouspanda True, you didn't. But your answer to ''mydoghasflees'' gave the impression you agreed that a hand made sword would be better. But my english isn't that good, so i apologize if i misunderstood you :-)

  • The katana gods cry at this video...

  • 0:55 this is how I cut logs for firewood :D

  • My katana was like $3,000 I just wipe it with a diaper

  • These are shitty katanas, you can buy them for $100

  • you wanna cut bamboo? get a machete.

  • @bebis101 Actually if you look at it in that still picture at the beginning, the hamon is clearly visible. 440 stainless wallhangers with traditional-looking koshirae usually have very short tangs and flimsy plastic tsuka to match. Were this one of those, it would've broken at the tsuba. As the name would suggest, the one in this video is made of T-10 high carbon steel of an unspecified carbon content without any of the traditional folding of tamahagane. Might be monotempered, might not.

  • Listen up folks. A kitana is just a bastrd swod wth a good PR campaign. In time of war, the quality of them went down as demand went up, and only those made by master swordsmiths were of the legendary quality we like to think about. The rest were probably cheap to average quality

  • one word. idiot

  • The true value of martial arts is the discipline, respect and understanding of the self. The sword is only but a manifestation of yourself, useless without the mind body

  • this dude is sick in the head.

  • I think will buy the axe instead.

  • Abysmal stupidity.

  • IMO, this is an imitation.. not a real katana.

  • I cried a little when he hit the barrel again...

  • @xacezkillzx bro bacon the blade can always be fixed i mean damn the first hit was sick it cut throw the rim where the axe bounced off you should be proud of that sword

  • not real katana

  • OMG, metal cut wood? Impossible.

  • Ahhh... it seems the european medieval swords are better at lasting. It must be because Japan makes their swords the old way...

  • @Bidmartinlo More to do with the geometry of the blade, what it's made to cut through, etc. A steak knife and a scalpel will have different properties.

In this case the sword is not quite "traditional" in its construction, lacking lamination, folding (though this is no longer quite as necessary thanks to modern steels) and being made of T10. The technique of the swordsman also matters.

Good sir, it is my informed belief that your general statement is unfounded based on these and other factors.

  • @Saavykaas I'm just saying that I have never seen a katana that is being used last for more than 10 years, without the polish and sharpening.

  • Well as you can plainly see, the katana cut the steel drum, however it damaged the blade, the metal, and the polish. Let's do it again. Way to go dumbass.

  • Foolish Man..

  • dude i can do that with my toy sword

  • ur a nija bro lmao ur col

  • hillarious

  • amagad if he would actually use it right it could minimalise the sword damage its not a fucking axe to swoing it around liek a lump of steel >.<

  • dude, the SBG designed these swords, he reviews them. this is a very good sword, and he just wanted to show that it could remain fairly unscathed for moderate cutting, the barrel was to show that unless your name is Ichigo Kurosaki then you pro'lly won't break this sword. i have one, but i tested it out on several deer necks. they are a more "traditional" material than tatami mats, since i couldnt find any willing victims err- i mean volunteers to test it out.

  • kill nature can u can just buy a masion

  • use yur BANKAI! to cut the barrel ...or maybe u dun have one...

  • Nice Test. I am probably not going to go around barrel killing anytime soon though. I did the same thing with the trees around my house with my $13 machete so I guess I am going to just keep my money and get a sword later.

  • he is not good at all =(

  • mmmm como que imprime mucha fuerza. no?

  • bonjour jaime bien cool ! tranchant :)

  • to make the best usage of the sword, concentrate your spiritual energi into the sword, and cut. maybe you should train to make your sword to have even deadlier, and give it a name :)

  • @MrPhiCao How about.... Zangetsu.
