  • Zhou Xuan's style of singing is just different from what most Westerners are accustomed to. I think her voice, and especially in this song, is very lovely! Also Teresa Teng's identified Zhou Xuan as her idol. That speaks volumes to me! My idol's idol--how totally and gently sweet. Thank you for posting this.

  • accordions4all . May be you're right, thanks for your reminder.

  • Beautiful! If she sounds like a cat, it may just be that the cat you heard sang quite beautifully too!

  • 時代を感じさせる歌い方ですね^^;

  • no wonder they all chinese from china of coz they knew every singer back groung the old parent can teel them ok?then she is the famost singer in that generation.this song was her original song.enjoy!

  • This song was released in 1937 with Zhou Xuan as the original singer. This song may hold the distinction of being one of the most covered as well as as being one of the most banned music in history of classic Asian pop music. A classic indeed!

  • This song was first release in 1939/1940.It was a hit for over 1/4 of a century. When I was akid in the 1960s it was still the number one hit of all time. Can we find any hit song nowaday which last that long ? See how fast Susan Boyld disappear ?

  • This is also the fovorite of the Japanese Governor during the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong.He was dismissed in 1944 because he was so much involved with the high society eating and drinking everyday.

  • @canman5060 Hi, did he really? Thats really interesting, I was wondering where you got this info from?

  • Definitely one of the world's greatest singers. I think it's because there is true emotion in her voice. Or maybe that is just one reason that she is so great.

I really love her singing. Thanks for posting this.

  • So original voice!

Most modern singers depend on sound effects only, but short of original voice!!

  • @strangehero420 Better than those Rip Rap Rip !!!!! Monkey dance ! Yack !

  • @canman5060 o totally agree.... it just sounds like a little girl singing, sounds like one of the kids out of north korea. still pretty dam awful, and i like fantomas

  • @strangehero420 don't be sorry, no1curr. She was a little girl when she started out---she was 16. Dumbass.

  • Lovely! Thank you.

  • She was a very beautiful looking girl

  • My grandma is a VERY big fan of hers

  • i second that.

  • She's the best then, and will be the best now and forever. I listen to her every night and never ever get bored. In my mind, shes the best Chinese female singer of all time.

  • @S600CA : actually... she is one of the best female singers of Any Nation in the entire World.... (my humble opinion).

  • The recording technology period during Zhou Xuan's time was antiquated. Today's recording is state of the art. There were at least 2 late recordings made of her songs which were made towards the end of her singing career when recordings improved. Her voice was nothing short of superb. Certainly not cat or micky mouse like. Yes she is a Chinese legend. Perhaps, one of the greatest Chinese singers of all. Her songs are still played today and will be for a long time to come.

  • If she sings like a cat, she would not be call The Golden Voice of China. In my mind, sh's a Chinese Icon and I love the way she sings.

  • yes she does sound like cat. but if you were on the microphone at that time, you sound like cricket!

  • haa..haa... your comment is so funny.......

  • gold throat!

  • 14 or 15 is a real unusually talented and mature ,man.............

she is one of my favorite. love her voice and acting too.thanks 4 sharing!

  • Oh please don't say she sounds like a cat. In reality, she was very very young when she sang this song perhaps just 14 or 15.

  • I believe it's the bad recording that era or time that makes her sound that way.

But if listen to her other numbers like

Yue shanghai , you notice shes has a

    great voice

  • i think there gd but i think il let u examine somthing else ^.-

  • i actually think so, too... sounds like my cat... who tries to sing...

i much prefer the li xianglan version... it's easier on the ears...

  • lol thats awsome does ur cat sing 2 this

  • he tries to sing whenever i play music... i can't say this is the kinda stuff i listen to with any regularity... but he has, on numerous occasions, tried to sing along with ichimaru...

i listen to music through headphones now... lol

  • lol is he a bad singer

  • he's a siamese...

  • tmwc2003: I think we should let bygone be bygone. Frankly all of us suffered at the beginning of the revolution. Mao was drastic and preemptive in turning the country upside down. However, China really needs leaders like him and many others (Premier Chow and Mr Deng)to turn around a great country to live up to her potential. Very unfortunate and deeply sympathize your hard time. Best to you.

  • im an indian...doesnt understand chinese yet im a fan zhuo xuan..bought a cd of her..the melody is tremendous !!

  • such a sad and yet happy song for it was the night of celebration or farewell before zhou's husband-to-be went over to Nanyang (now Thailand,Singapore and Malaya)for his debut tour. His parting song ( entitled " Ding Ning " ) was also a hit song. Can anybody share it with us? please,

  • melodious.

  • this is such a sad song :'(

  • Oh, all the while I thought with the 'accordian' version is the original version?

  • My mom who is from China used to sing this

song. She has pass away now.

  • I am sorry for your loss George. My grandmother used to listen to her as well. It brings back sweet memories....

  • i'm from saudi arabia and even i do not understand what she sing but i still love love love this classic song. zhou xuan and teresa teng is the queen of all pure voices.

    moutaz

  • I loved it!

  • Yes indeed! There were many heart wrenching stories that time! I am 55 years old and I know what you say here is true! Take care.

  • So sorry to hear bout the sufferings....

  • @tmwc2003

you fcuking old ugly pussy, why didn't cpc kill you?

  • this version has been sorely missed on youtube

  • Wow! Sounds beautiful! Great sound quality, too! Thanks!

  • hao ting
