  • is algae repellant necessary if you have algae-eaters? like plecos, snails, shrimp, otocinclus?

  • do you need fertilizer for the plants to grow? i already have a stocked 20 gallon tank and i want to set it up like a proper planted tank. i tend to just pick any plant. but ive ordered a collection for my tank size. but do i need to put fertilizer in.

  • To fast..

  • nice picture of diamond head

  • i putt 2 goldfish in my tank and the next day they were lyi ng dead at the bottom any ideas

  • have you hade the water tested?

  • Cycle the tank before adding fish google "Cycling aquarium" use the fishless cycle

  • Lack of oxygen in the water? Bad water quality? Poisenous chemical in decorations?

  • Check the PH or it could just be unhealthy store bought fish.

  • Can you replace the gravel with sand?

  • very helpful video!

  • Lol all the Micro things are making with a Computer =P So HOW can i believe this?

  • What good Nitrate Removers are there? I don't want an algae problem. I can't find Tetra Nitrate Minus anywhere in the US...

  • you don't need a substrate heater, a normal heater for the aquarium is all you need.

  • Don't need co2 or air bubbler. Should have a bio wheel to bring co2 from the air. Don't have many fish in a planted tank or you will have lots of algae. Some plants will do well with a 2 fluorescent light hood but modifying it to 4 or more light is recommended. Grow lights also help

  • If algae is green then the water is healthy if brown then you are not following these directions. You can put peat moss in a stocking and place it in the filter where it wont interfere and this will also aid in the plant and fish health. Remember, no chemicals, salt etc. Use a scotchbrite that is free of soap or residue to clean the glass. You dont need to spend a lot.

  • High concentrations of minerals and nitrates are very harmful. You dont ever need to remove the plants. For a planted tank, dont use carbon or carbon based filter pad or any other chemicals etc. Not the white ammonia zorb or medicines etc. If the fish get sick, take them out of the tank to a hospital tank until well. Your fish wont get sick if the environment is healthy.

  • Change 15 percent of the water each month and put a little chlorine remover in the water before entering it into the tank or immediately after because chlorine is harmful to the entire ecosystem in the tank. You must change water. You will kill everything if you dont. Water evaporates but minerals and waste dont. The minerals will build up as you keep topping off the water and you will see this because the top dry glass will form a mineral white film.

  • thanks for telling me the idle fish tank heat.

  • its very help full for set up

  • 4:55 Genius! Thanks!

  • by the time id finish with all the gravel there would be no room for my fish lol jk gonna go and look for all this soon great video thank!

  • How would i clean the gravel?

  • Nice instructional video! But what about CO2? Aren't you going to introduce it into the water for the plants?

  • Liddlefishdoctor I just have one question. If I have fish, how will I clean the gravel. I use a siphon for my other tanks, but wouldn't that stir up the base layer of "completesubstrate"???

  • "now its time to fill the aquarium with what makes it's name, aqua.... water..."

  • 2:24 lmao

  • what size tank is that? and how much would is cost (english pounds)?

  • Would it be benifical to use the complete substrate AND the initial sticks?? Or would that just be over kill?? or bad even? How nessesary is it to have a substrate heater?

  • you dont need a heater if you use T5 lights.

dont use stick unless plants dont grow. dont think you can over do it.

  • the lady said complete substrate or instead initail sticks

  • A substrate heater, isn't necessary, just have a normal one. Don't use tetra substrate use Tropica much better.

  • i am starting planted 10 g tank so please mail some ponters and tips will be much thanks

  • great video good job

  • i llike it especailly b cuz the lady speaks kewl

    horray for the british =D

  • If I want to grow live plants in my tank, do i need to add the substrate dirt-like substance?

  • what about co2, would I need something to put co2 in the water?

  • Great video

Thanks for the help fish Doc :D

  • What is the plant you use in the foreground that has alot of green leaves coming from one plant?

  • although overly dramatic, a very informative and useful video.

  • great vid! i learnt a great deal of things here! 5*

  • I decided to add plants after my aquarium was established, so my substrate is crap for plants.

  • I am not sure if I will be able to find these products.

  • are you supposed to use some special uv emitting lamps or bulbs? like are they important for keeping fish alive or is just regular sunlight fine? and how do you know if you even need any light fixtures in the first place?

  • great information :) awesome ;D

  • Awesome video! Thanks Tetra and LiddleFishDoctor!

  • i have a question not only for theliddlefishdocter but anyone who is an expert on fish. when changing the water do i remove all the plants or will they die if i remove them?

  • You shouldn't ever have to change all the water, and if you have to remove the plants, be very careful with their roots. Otherwise, it is better not to remove the plants if possible. You should never change more than 50% of your water at any time unless of some catastrophe.

  • thank u for this helpful advice i really appreciate it

  • where do you get the verry bottom layer of substrate

  • u just remove half of the water..then maintain the origin.....

  • there'sd no need to take the plants out of the tank when changing the water. Just change it. :)

  • great video!!

  • what about co2 simulators?O.O i dont think plants can live w/o ....co2

  • If you use potting soil or other good substrates, and have good lighting, you will not need it, b/c the water already has c02 given off by fish and microorganisms.

  • Some plants don't need them but you can easily make a DIY co2 reactor

  • You're right they can't, but there is naturally co2 in the water and more is excreted by fish.

  • it is possible watch this video in spanish?

  • great information

  • cool thanks for the video!

  • exelente!

  • Awesome =] I like fish

  • wow,great video.
