Quite a good review. But from my own experience with this game, there are a few points I disagree with:
1. It's NOT a collectible game, all the stuff you need is in the box.
2. He says it's nearly impossible to reach one of the end dots, which is not true. For example, the arnunnian alliance deck has a great speed strategy which is hard to beat.
3. Too bad he doesn't mention the fact that a lot of flavor has been added. I love the story and the new amazing artwork.
Maybe Wizards of the Coast should do something similar for Magic: The Gathering. Just a board game-ish expansion for different way of playing MTG, not to over rule the original rules, just another way of playing it.
@lpdude72 Actually they did it with SOE as a PC game. Called MtG - Tactics. I tried it, and i don't like it much. Same with Guardians of Graxia. It just feels like cards are pushed to the background and in reality you are playing a clasiic turn-based strategy game. Having to watch the field/board and all the possible movements distracts from the playing cards aspect. And they change mechanics a lot to make it 3D. I still prefer classic MtG game.
I'm a little disappointed that this isn't based on the Cronenberg film eXistenZ; I think someone could do a really great 'Resistance' type game where you play cards to change reality/alliances. Thank you Tom, and everyone else at the Dice Tower Network, for all the great reviews!
I playtested this game in the Netherlands a year ago. Did not enjoy it one bit.
Unless they made great changes to the rules, this is not worth buying, let alone collecting cards for it.
My main problems with the game are the starting hand (Being rooted in your starting position due to a poor hand for 8 turns in a row) and the mind-wrecking movement system.
it really looked like something i wanted to buy until you said "collectible". I hate collectible games because they always cost so much money. I used to play Magic: the Gathering and even Dominion until it just became far too expensive to keep up with. This looked like a great game until collectible came into the mix. I will therefore be passing this one up.
@jamstrat yeah after looking more into and finding a video where the designer states that the boardgame components dont have to be collectible. That gives more interest to checking it out.

@icarius87 thanks for that last remark. I helped getting the new artists in gear for this edition and I am glad the artwork is as well received!

@ZombieBroccoli I was thinking someone should make a game based on eXistenZ also.

Just pretend its not collectible then, this game is completely playable out of the box with nothing more ever needed.
