I was listening to my favorite radio station (classical music station) when I heard this melody. I immediately felt as If I heard it before, and that's when it hit me. KILL THE WABBIT! XD I had to look this up and see it again. Probably my favorite episode of the original Looney Toons. :'D
i FINALLY got to see this on Cartoon Network last week after not having seen it since the '80's & it was still just as funny now as it was then! Classic Bugs Bunny ROCKS!
:'( i miss when everything wasnt politcal correct! you can hardly see good shows like this on tv......thank god for the internet and the origanle vids like this!
Poor Elmer, to go though so much effort and so many trials to kill the wabbit--only to have is heart broken in the end. Be careful what you wish for I guess.
These were so good because they were made as time fillers at movie theaters. They were geared for adults as well as children. My only exposure to opera as a child was Bugs Bunny. My kids have no idea. Wake up Saturday morning eat cereal and choose what I was going to watch. I had 3 whole channels to choose from, awesome. Always Bugs Bunny Road Runner Show. Always.
Beautiful work Aniclass! This was my favorite cartoon and my favorite episode of this cartoon! KYAAAAAAAAAAAH! I haven't seen this in forever! Nostalgia~
This was always one of my two favorite Bugs Bunny cartoons the other being Rabbit of Seville. Thank you for posting it. I must agree with peace2baby though that I wish you had the entire cartoon.
Ugh, anyone notice that Elmer is the worst hunter ever. This is the only time he actually kills Bugs, and he's all to peices about it. And all the other times Bugs tricks him into thinking he's killed him (like with ketchup and acting cornier than Iowa), he goes all to pieces!
Beautiful clean copy! I just wish you had whole thing! I love the few seconds just before this starts when you see Bugs as Brunhilda run up the stairs in ecstasy!
He then taunts Elmer about his "spear and magic helmet". This prompts a display of Elmer-as-Siegfried's "mighty powers", set to the overture of The Flying Dutchman. At that, Bugs flees and the chase begins.
Suddenly, Elmer is stopped in his tracks at the sight of the beautiful Valkyrie Brünnhilde (Bugs in an obvious disguise), riding in grandly on an enormously fat horse
The screen pans on the silhouette of a mighty Viking (presumably Thor) arousing ferocious lightning storms, but then zooms in to reveal that it is only Elmer Fudd (as the demigod Siegfried). Elmer sings his signature line "Be vewy qwiet, I'm hunting wabbits" (in recitative), before arriving at Bugs Bunny's hole. We watch as Elmer jams his spear into Bugs's hole to "Kiww the wabbit! Kiww the wabbit! Kiww the wabbit!"
@OkayCompy Aw man, I remember crying at this as a kid as well. I remember being embarressed because i knew it was only a cartoon...but around 2:00 when the music gets dramatic and sad, I got all teary eyed.

Andrew Q Bryan voiced Elmer Fudd, but I'm almost certain that Mel Blanc was the one voicing the "SMOOOOOOOOOG" line.

the original composer is Wagner, its from his opera "Tannhauser" and its the pilgrims' chorus i think.
