The person taking the decision probably had very little personal profits to gain by making such a decision. BP, as a whole, have a very small part of their profits coming from that field. In relation to the major risk, if it was known, greed cannot have been involved.

BUT if it wasnt for the U.S. and our sheer numbers coming in to assist after Britain and the other countries had gotten pounded as heavily as you did Germany would have won. In 1979 in the gulf of Mexico they had the same oil leaking into the gulf for 9 months until they drilled a relief well,you can find this incident here on you tube Rachel Maddox reporting about it,oil got on the Texas shores the gulf recovered from it and marine life did come back ,check it out if you haven't already

The US Government TOLD BP to drill in DEEP water and signed off on it.

@majorl31 I think you have misunderstood me, we either phase it out over the next 10 years (very easy to do with business and public support plus legislation) or wait for prices to rise when we hit peak oil in a big way and be stuck with no back up plan.
Electric cars are fine if the materials used are environmentally sustainable, non polluting and the energy comes from renewable no emissions sources.

@hitssquad what are you talking about "hemp gasoline"? it can be converted to the same "gasoline" your petroleum gets converted into. it isnt some special gasoline in the sense that it needs some special engine to work. it doesnt. not only can it work, but it will only release CO2 into the atmosphere which if you did the math (and people have) it would result in no net increase as the plant would consume CO2 in the growing process. oil is killing the earth. no ozone=cosmic rays ripping us up

Executives at BP took the decision to start producing from the well, and misjudged the risks involved. The person taking the decision probably had very little personal profits to gain by making such a decision. BP, as a whole, have a very small part of their profits coming from that field. In relation to the major risk, if it was known, greed cannot have been involved.
