  • What does "Wild Geese" mean?

  • @SantaFe19484 The Wild Geese were Irish expatriates and soldiers who fought in European in the 16th to 18th century

  • agreed with ye there darrin all time favourite song aswell

  • this is the best irish folk song in my opinion. i have a cd where the dubliners sing it and it brings a tear to my eye

  • I miss Ireland so much. Wonderful song.

  • Wait, who is singing this?

  • This still raises the hairs on the back of my neck.

    hail and peace

  • for me the best one is by the (sadly yankee, I hate when they do their "back to the origins" tourist thing) band the Young Dubliners. As darrin42 says, very fast.

    Down to the Sassenach

  • ya u do learn irish in school i learn it in my school

  • Do u learn Irish at school in Ireland? Would love to learn the language but it seems to impossible here in Sweden. great song by the way.

  • lol yes its compulsery

  • I live in America, I can find plenty of places online that'll teach you, but as far as pronunciation, it's not so consistent, and you don't know how to pronounce maybe a certain diphtong, say "ai" in Coraigh would be pronounced differently then the "ai" in faic and that would be pronounced differently then the "ai" in haigh, it all depends on the word and dialect. It's not as hard to learn as it is to pronounce.

  • Pretty hard in Australia as well, only one school Sydney :/

  • jo, jag har inte sett det någonstans. Men kan man läsa jävla färöiska eller pluttespråk så borde det väl gå?

  • @MrsEringobragh yeah the language is drilled into kids in school. Most people can't speak it tho :(

  • Slainte Bhath Bhoys

  • hey darrin42, you mention a version of the song by someone named Lukes Epis. can you provide me with a link to it if there is one on youtube?

  • i think he ment lukes EPIC version not sure but i'm assumin

  • What he probably meant was "Lukes epic version" - referring to "Luke Kelly".

  • ár múinteoir mhúin dúinn an t-amhrán sa bhunscoil

  • @johnpaulmeehan fuck you and your drug dealers the first ira was the best cuse the died for thre country the cira and the rira are a bunch of drug dealers and scum the INA WILL HAVE ITS DAY well show the brits how the irish fight

  • sounds like a mandolin. too bad none of the music came with the irish slaves to iceland. Did we only steal the tonedef ones.

  • Amadan

  • Good version of a fantastic song.

    Erin go bragh!

  • I agree Ilikefightin I really respect what Gerry Adams and other former IRA members are trying to do in Sinn Fein. It took a real warrior like him to finally bring peace. And the IRA can take much more credit for the peace process than the British or the unionist side. The IRA was never defeated and they can hold their heads high. I feel that Ireland will probably be united in my lifetime. Its good to see what Sinn Fein is doing in the ROI too. The struggle continues Tiocfardth Ar La

  • i agree totally, how many years ago did the ira decommision? loyalists are only getin round to it now, theyre allowed to take over the whole of the north for their marching season but campaign against nationlists havin 2 marches up the falls, we cant fly the tricolr on st pats day but they can plastr their bonfires with K.A.T., the names of young catholics who have been killed in recent years and pictures of the pope, i think sinn fein and the ira deserve most of the praise for the peace process

  • Yeah, awesome song!! This is not the best version I heard, but still is a very powerfull song. Free Ireland!!

    Greets from Catalonia!

  • interesting version of this song

  • now dont get me wrong on this...i fuckin love this song...always brings a tear to my eye....im Irish to the bone but we cant blame todays brits for what happend 800 years ago...the real i.r.a. are turning into terrorist's...dont deny it you all know its true.....they are shooting people from their own country...for what...hopeing that they can change the past?....no...noone can do that....but we can remember our countrys greatest efforts back in 1916 and we will never forget it...

  • Erin go bragh

  • this is a song to be kept near to the heart

  • fuck british

  • Awesome.

  • Who's this by ?

  • From the versions of this song i've heard, so far this one is the best

  • -thanks for the version...

    That's Brian Roebuck ;)

    -regards from Croatia...

  • they may not be traditional irish band but i still think the young dubliners play this song best

this version still realy good though not a bad thing to say about it

  • lol the Young Dubs sing it all fast like. Kind of like the way the Wolfe Tones sing it. I Like it a lot! Fantastic version. But in my own mind the Traditional As intended version(As performed best by Luke Kelly) will always be best :)

  • well i will agree that the original version of a song is usualy better in most cases, epecialy when it comes to irish music and in the long run no one can best the dubliners not ever a modernised version by some lads from L.A but my opinion still stands when it comes to this song

  • well... lies more in what the Young Dubs sing, they go with a moe punk'ish style to their music. Paddy Reilly sings a bit fast as well, but he does with thunder and vigour, but I agree on Kelly's version being best

  • lluke kelly does this one so much better

  • @CRITICALINPUT I'd have to disagree; have you heard the version by the Chieftains and Sinead?

  • @ragnarthesemigreen omg.... I love Sinead's... :D

  • Ah, this one's the right key for me to play along with my favorite tin whistle.

  • By the way, the song is awesome... thanks a lot for posting it !

  • Are you sure ? They're the only one to sing it this way. They changed the order of the verses and added some.

  • No Prob. Yeah I am sure. It Sounds like Luke kelly

singing doesent it? lol. But the CD Claims its someone

called Brian Roebuck. Prob a Outsider

  • @darrin42 thats Brian Roebuck without a doubt.

  • It's the Dubliners.

  • Yes Sounds like the Dubliners to me to. But alas it isent.

  • sounds like the wolftones

  • 'who are' what?
