people, i see this on EVERY dirt bike video. so imma teach all you retards something, POWERBAND IS ON EVERY ENGINE. 4 stroke or 2 stroke, it has a powerband!
@joshfuckingpalmer the correct statement is when the sound wave in the pipe is at the right level and creating the right back presser the motor is at it best performance
that is why you have the power hit at the right rpm ranger
that is why you can use defrent pips to tune the 2stroke for more torque or hp and you can also tune it like i have mine and that is with a very long torque curve so that it responds allot smother and i do not feel much of a power band hit on my cr250r
Dude I really think they both have three wheels and it looks like the 500's in an actual three wheeler frame because of the shorter forks and the wide ass tire up front.
@joshfuckingpalmer all engines have a power band. Power band is in its simplest form, the distance between the peek torque and hp curve. 4 strokes are just often tuned for a wider more usable band. They could be valve timed to have a narrower band and would be snappy like a 2 stroke, but the wide expansion pipes on 2's also help with the snappy tuning. Consider 4 stroke exotic cars like the Porsche Carrera GT formula model, or something running some type of air charge delivery.
@destined2sleep You obviously don't understand engines. Four strokes were brought into motocross due to some state regulations closing in on emissions. 2 stroke manufacturing was slimming, and 4strokes were being marketed heavily.
This is not the case now, as 2 strokes are coming alive again. There are obvious differences in the two designs, and I am simply not explaining it, but if you don't know the basics, then I suggest you read up rather than try to tell someone (me) off.
@raredesign variable valve timing allows a flatter powerband. It keeps valve lift at an optimal increment for maximum efficiency. That is why the new Ford 5.0 feels like a big block, because it has vvt. Nice flat powercurve. Where as you have a 350 with a big cam, you dont get to use the big cam power til you get to the 4th or 5th octave.
@joshfuckingpalmer I hear ya man. I used to ice race TT on my 02 KX500. Try it out man, it is a rush. Plus, wipeouts don't hurt as bad...just stay away from the several hundred screws in the tires lol.
lots of people on here commenting have never ridden a 500, that much is clear. 0 -- 60 in what 4 seconds, 60 mph - top gear, you have to kick it through the gears quick, you don't need to mess about revving out every gear, a bike that powerful was made for short shifting.
Don't forget to buy the high tension piston return springs and AllBalls muffler bearings. I completely agree with the graphics as well. They clearly add horsepower, why do you think all the pros have decal kits?
hahaha yea NO KIDDING! the powerband starts where you make maximum torque and ends where you start losing horsepower hahaha anything that makes power has an RPM range known as the "power band" it's not a component that only 2 stroke engines have
@Milk4ndCereal True its more prevalent on a 2-stroke but part of that reason is because the powerband is at the bottom of every gear on a 4-stroke so you can't feel it hit.
half the people that talk about powerbands dont know what it means. i saw a post earlier today talking about "i just ordered a new powerband for my YZ, itll be so fast now" LMAO!
i only ride a 250 and it pulls twice as hard once you get into that powerband..
so considering that the kx500 kept up without even hitting the powerband i think if he did the race would have been all kx shooting dirt in the other guys face
ok even if it did hit the powerband still would have been the same. and also theres like 5 gears on the kx? if so it has 5 powerbands....its when the engine can maximum proformance (RPM) and is diffrent from every gear.... and also dont act like the crotch rocket dont have a powerband...
lol yes the crotch rocket has one too...never said it didnt..
and no there is not 5 powerbands there is 1 its X rpms through X rpms the gears just help you keep the motor running in that rpm range....
but what im saying is the kx never got into that rpm range and if you have rode a 2 stroke you know they dont make a whole lot of power down low or in the mid its all up high basicly the kx rider only used like 1/2 the bikes power due to his early shifting
you should race them on the street w/ the kx 500 having TWO street tires and then see who wins...maybe not distance but it would ruin the crotch rocked at acceleration
nope, you can get one from service honda, theyl put it in a new 450 chassis for you, they just dont make the bikes themsleves anymore. you gots to order em.
no its "service honda" there a group that started building the 500af and they call their self service honda. check them out (it wont let me type it) but it's servicehonda!!!!!!!!dot!!!!!!!!c!!!o!!!m

2 stroke has a more narrow power band and a 4 stroke has a wider power band.
would also be the correct way to say it
power band is the rpm range were the motor is producing optimum power to the back wheel
be it a car or motocross bike

What's this bullshit people keep saying about four strokes not having a powerband?
Every engine has a powerband.
A fucking lawn mower has a powerband.
Ever seen a dyno sheet? Notice how at a certain RPM the engine makes a peak horsepower?
Definition of powerband...
The RPM range an engine reaches peak power. Shut up with this bullshit. Lol, if four strokes don't have powerbands, then diesels use spark plugs.
