  • huh poop jim i get his plea but not acce[pt the concept. the face of forcing these emotions should never be scaly acceptable and give roots to dis social behavior. its so weird.

  • This movie is fucking terrible.

  • im not smart enough to understand this monologue.. this guy did go to brown afterall

  • I don't get this. Why do people enjoy this crap? It's just some incoherent, disjointed ramblings. I hear more profound monologues when I get high with my friends.

  • @peteagassi you,my friend,are a waste of space and time.

  • @peteagassi its not incoherent at all.

  • @peteagassi so get high and watch this

  • Having seen Krasinski in The Office, I just assumed he wasn't a very good actor. This, however, is quite good.

  • I work at 2 convenient stores, am a geek about movies, TV, and pop culture, and have a soon to be wife and kid on the way with aspirations to be a writer and musician (preferably a drummer). If I can somehow have the guts to write about this to make it interesting and have a back story, I want John Krasinski to play me! Thoughts?

  • If I had the guts to become a screenwriter, I would write a whole movie around the depths that John Krasinski can go to as an actor. Amazing!!!

  • the fact that he wrote this movie and directed it, and acted in the movie just amazes me.

  • good movie.

  • Check out my channel please new monolouges comeing soon

  • it seems a bit overly dramatic to me. something about the choice of words doesn't sound realistic. maybe that's due to it being out of context, but i found myself wondering why he was talking like that while i watched it, even though the sentiment was very moving. not that i didn't believe him as that character, but either the delivery or the wording of the monologue itself seems a little... pretentious. it's like he's making a speech at harvard or something.

  • @EbonyEthereal I think he didn't change the actual prologues in the book and I also felt like the dialogue was a bit off. It's like people always say that the book is better than the movie. I bet if you had read what he just said on paper, it would have made a lot more sense. I'm actually thinking about doing that after watching the movie. It's a different experience.

  • @melodyayayay i agree. it probably would be better in a book. so i think i'll just read that first, THEN watch the movie. we'll see how it sounds then.

  • This is hilarious. It seems like he's reading the lines. I LOVE John Krasinski but he is terrible in this. Stick to comedy, maybe? I love you John! <3

  • @AugustineEmmeline It's verbatim from the book. David Foster Wallace makes his prose hard to sound natural. So John actually does a fantastic job.

  • @trenters What?...I...I will have to see this film to see this in context. I guess some prose is unnatural sounding, but this sounds so incredibly fake to me it's unbelievable. What is this movie even about? Besides, you know, brief interviews with hideous men.

  • @moon1593 and let me clarify. I like Krasinski. In fact I like him alot. But mark

My words he will never be taken seriously for roles like this. Comparing him to Al Pacino is the most absurd thing I've ever heard. He had a brief stint in standup and was a failure. Then became of one the best dramatic actors of all time. Let me know when John does that. I'll be waiting. Because your opinions on this subject are backed with such monumental validity. You straight up fool.

  • @moon1593 right because you live in LA right? No you don't. I do. You act right? You don't I do. You actually consider this man a colleague? No. I do. You know ANYTHING about production? No. I do. Please don't

Tell me I'm not taken seriously when you're some random loser from the Internet. Will Smith was a product. It was by design. Let me know when this guy headlines any movie like those(which btw You consider to be great because he cries. Wow. Not a big deal really) merry Christmas douche.

  • He'll never be taken seriously for non comedic roles. Sorry.

  • @monstermash2011 You're an idiot. What happened to Will Smith? I'm sure you would say the same thing about him from the 90's. But then he pulled off movies like Seven Pounds and I Am Legend. How about Al Pacino? Did you know that man started out being a stand up comic? But then he did a little called The Godfather, maybe you've heard of. Actors have ranges. Rather it's comedic or serious. That's the beauty of movies and acting. You'll never be taken serious as a human being. Sorry. Gtfo.

  • yeah im now going to find this movie and watch it, because i would like to see this in context of the rest of the story.

  • I appreciate this

  • When I first watched this I thought, John Krasinski has no idea what he is talking about. Then I found out not only did he act in this movie, but he directed and wrote it.

  • Cant help but feel a bit disturbed by her reaction towards a rapist.. sounds like fell in love with her for pity not for her "talents"

  • @chickenman913 just because you don't understand it, does not mean it doesn't make sense.

  • What movie is this I NEED TO WATCH IT

  • Add my PhD candidate vote to "why TF does this keep coming up" and "nice try at being cynical jackass" and "women can have their own rape fantasies but I've no interest in going anywhere near there so nice acting job jackass"

  • What...did I listen too?

  • yeah. . . . . .rape's awesome. Fuck this

  • I got distracted. I love that actress, Julianne Nicholson. Ha ha. :D

  • good acting but it does not make sense what he's talking about.

  • I'm 22 and I have such a huge school girl crush on this man, it's pathetic

  • im speechless. wow.

  • God, he's stunning.

  • @mamakunem jeez troll chill

  • @mamakunem cool story bro

  • A nice face doesn't make for the "best" monologue...

  • Second time watching this... I don't understand it really at all, he talks partly like he's reciting Shakespeare, and the topics kinda jump all over... but boy am I in love with it. His character is so real and the tone of his voice, everything is real. I love just listening to him talk.

  • Am I the only one who thought this was actually quite intriguing? Everyone seems to dislike it..

  • I'm a big fan of David Foster Wallace's and I was looking forward to this movie. What a disappointment. It was excrusicating. Maybe the worst movie I've ever seen.

  • yeah, really not a well-delivered monologue

  • What the hell is this nonsense..this actor is a damn hack.

  • eh

  • You know why they call me Prison Mike?

  • @duckingforcover09 prisonmike what was the worst part about prison?

  • @duckingforcover09 Prison Mike what was the worst part about prison?!?

  • how can he be in a movie called hideous men?

  • Christ, what whiney, self-indulgent crap.

  • What movie...IS this...

  • @JDBW "Brief Interviews with Hideous Men"

  • a granola cruncher.. LOL <3

  • @mamakunem

You can believe in God and not be religious. Ever heard of being agnostic? First, you are an intolerant asshole, then you go on to say that "you have no place here". Wow. Get the fuck out, you Nazi. Nobody was preaching religion at you. If you can't handle someone's opinion about something as minor as this, good luck in the real world. If you can't tolerate even this, you have no place in real life. Go call someone a "fucking moron" in real life and watch your ass get kicked.

  • @teendramafreak89 I do limit what I watch....everyone should have standards. That's one area where I draw the line. Using the the LORD's name in vain is uncalled for.

  • @mellado36 not a big deal, its for a movie

  • Comment removed

  • To all you complainers..WHAT he is saying is more important than how he is saying it (which is great to me). I was tricked into the woods 1 time by a rapist pig and I talked my way out of it. I could be dead right now. Was that pig really worse than men (and women) that dress & play nice, pick people up in "classy" places, them lure them in with key words and actions humans LONG to hear to feel special? Using others or being used just for sexual pleasure all feels the same. Empty. Kudos to John

  • @TheLaurieKester I've seen this movie many, many times. Because of your post, I just now understood this segment. Thank you. I mean that sincerely. Thank you.

  • Is this the same guy we all know and love?

  • @mamakunem I'm not religious but I do believe in God. I just can't stand to hear that phrase being used in any film no matter what dramatic statement is trying to be made. It's just un-necessary. Dialogue could be better.

  • LOL, the writing behind this is brilliant, I like the interaction with the psychologist or whoever she as well, therapists confuse the hell out of me..

  • @tintosangre true

  • Wow. So many excellent actors - including Julianne Nicholson here (Law and Order) - yet if this monologue is an example, mediocre stilted film.

One minute of his work on "The Office" is worth this whole piece.

  • Is it wrong my favorite line of the whole monologue was "Judge me, you bitch!"

  • I use to like him as an actor but not since he used God's name in vain. He also used it in Something Borrowed...which by the way was the worst movie I've ever seen that made it theaters. Just my opinion.

  • @mellado36 God said shut the f**k up, you judgmental bukkake champ.

  • @mellado36 hahahahahha...

  • @mellado36 you realize he's an actor.

  • This has to be among the top 5 most nauseatingly mediocre deliveries in cinema history.

  • IMO it's okay. Not great.I was not moved. It felt rushed. The beats (silences) are the most important parts of monologues, or the entire film.He should get out of his head.Just my opinion. I think he's a charming guy and I've seen him in The Office. He has his moments.

  • the things i would do to john krasinski....

  • Wow. I put this in my Netflix queue a few months ago just based on the title, but I believe I'll be watching it now.

  • He is the one who wrote AND directed this. so even more props for that

  • WOW. John friking Krasinski.

  • serious john krasinski is even sexier than funny john krasinski haha >.<

  • @D3vinchi93 If you watch this and you think about him being sexy instead of him making the most dramatic monologue in film history depicting somebody who's been unsuspectingly used, then you don't deserve to comment on it.

  • @SevenSplitHavoc this is youtube, not a david foster wallace fansite. you're going to get shallow views and comments. it's up to the viewer to derive any perspective on john krasinski as he or she desires. even if his 'sexiness' was the only thing that she got from the performance, that doesn't make her unworthy of sharing her opinion. no one can appreciate every facet of a monologue, it's up to you to share what you appreciate instead of belittling another's opinion.

  • @wge621 and boom goes the dynamite

  • @mellado36 The reason why they have it is cuz that's what many normal people say in a moment of distress, anger or confusion, you douchebag. Jesus....

  • best 9 minutes of my life

  • the monologue sucks, base on my experience of watching good/great actors and writers.

  • @jvsus4117 and spelling.

  • This is a breath of fresh air from Jim from The Office cause ever since mid-season 6, the character became a colossal tool and a dickhead.

  • judge me you bitch!

  • @danman807...ok, where's your video post in response, since, "anyone can do it"?

  • I wish he was in more films. He is so funny and had way good timing. He is also really good at serious rolls.

  • @amandacro83 I ment roles

  • "Brief Interviews with Hideous Men" based on the Willian Forter Wallace book, that is the movie are it is from.

  • Its funny actually when you think about how much emotions a person can go through in a mere 10 minutes watching other people speak, and live. i sit here not knowing anything about john but finding myself caught up on every word he utters. and i sit here staring at a screen thinking how much i love this stranger. and not just him but the characters he portrays as if they're real. idk..it's just funny when you think about it...people and how the react to each other, directly or indirectly.

  • His wonky eyebrow annoys the shit out if me

  • what movie is this from

  • @djalternegro Brief Interviews with Hideous Men

  • Beautifully done.

  • "I stand here naked before you,,,,judge me you bitch!" Lol

  • The character is an ass.

  • I actually wrote down the script of this scene on Microsoft Word. Memorizing it is proving difficult. 1,339 words.

  • @ShaneWLowe

Dude i freaken love you, I have to do the same thing - can you forword that to me?

  • I love it. I like Ben Gibbards part a little better but that clip is not on here :(

  • not bad but not amazing.. his lines are brilliant but the delivery.. not incredible but still very good

  • This is deep.

  • @cherrybaby240 Thats what i told her.

  • that was so beautiful i could weep forever.... but i have to be honest... i laughed so hard when he screamed "judge me, you bitch"/........ great work john krasinski... you never fail to amaze me :)

  • The too cute guy from the office, he should have realised that his monologue was a little too smart arse.. just too smart, especially when he was talking about religious cults, to be credidible

  • @1Elena2Grace3 it was soo cheesy and bad. U can tell he knows the camera is there and is completely failing. just plain bad. Anyone could do that! He doesnt even shed a tear! Not to mention he does MULTIPLE TAKES. Dicaprio woulda done it all in one take I bet. All krasinski does is manage to keep a straight Face and do a bad and amusingly fake looking job of acting sad. Anyone could do it

  • I want to thank you for putting this on here. I wans't a minute into this video before I decided I want to see this movie.

  • @danman807 you are probably, the single most arrogant person ever born if you thought that was bad.

  • He is fricking amazing

  • That was so beautiful, who knew he had it in him ?

  • Oh my god this was amzing. I had no idea he could do that. Absolutely blown away right now :0

  • From putting Dwights stappler in jello to this, This actor can do it all!

  • Pretentious, pretentious writing.

  • His delivery is great, but IliveinMA is right - it's doesn't sound natural. It sounds very contrived.

  • I can only make a little sense of this dialogue, which means I'm mentally crippled I guess. I understand fear in the face of love, but is he trying to justify his actions somehow? Why does she have no reply? Are there any thorough reviews I can read to assuage my poor tormented little brain?

  • @gking407 If you're having issues with the dialogue, consider reading the book on which this film was based. All the interviews in the novel are formatted without any questions, just answers, that's whys he doesn't answer. I suggest reading reviews or articles on the book rather than the movie, since most reviews I've read on the film focus more on the cast/John Krasinski. Hope I helped!

  • Good performance by john krasinski, but what he was talking about seemed pretty pointless.

  • its bad writing.

  • @jonrstroud - I think you misunderstood IliveinMA's meaning. The source material is very powerfully written, but it's not written the way people really speak. This is why when it's delivered (really, really well by the way) it doesn't sound natural. Poetic, powerful writing doesn't always sound natural when spoken aloud, and the words used in this piece (especially the beginning) are not the best for a script which is meant to be said aloud. Toward the end the emotion saves the whole piece :)

  • Amazing monologue. John Krasinski is so captivating, and the writing is so haunting and beautiful, nonetheless brilliant.

  • powerful performance of john krasinski!

  • I couldn't memorize that if you gave me a year, let alone throw in some genuine emotion.

  • I saw this movie today on sundance channel and it was an amazing movie this part blew me away I shedded a tear

  • @pricelessangie it's the final scene from the movie 'brief interviews with hideous men'

  • which movie is this from?

  • Wow.

I never seen this movie, but I know I dont have to anymore: Ive seen the best part of it!

(man I wish I was that woman sitting in front of him!)

I wonder.... how hard was it for him not to just look at the camera and do a Jim face... *giggles*

  • One of my favorite movie scenes. Ever.

  • @Jeskers18 Maybe they mean they are metaphorically "hideous." Although I think most of these guys were normal dudes trying to navigate a post-feminism world.

  • @Jeskers18 Maybe they mean they are metaphorically "hideous." Although I think most of these guys were normal dudes trying to navigate a post-feminism world.

  • @Jeskers18 Maybe they mean they are metaphorically "hideous." Although I think most of these guys were normal dudes trying to navigate a post-feminism world.

  • this really makes me reflect on myself

  • He is reading a monologue, its the monologue of his own bullshit is why it feels

artificial. After the line about "how easy it is to make this type feel like your'e a kindred spirit" how can she trust anything he says after that.

  • This is, by far, the most wonderfully awful moment of this wonderfully awful movie.

  • what movie is this from?

  • if the girl can read people's minds ( the girl from the anecdote), can she not guess what his intentions were when he invited her over to his home?

  • This kind of writing is for the detached theatrics of a poetry reading, not for a movie.

  • Man, this sounds so fake. It's shameful, he shouldn't have done it.

  • I love how 'psychotic' sidesteps that it's mostly women thus targeted.

The problem is a lone evil deviant and not something in the water, something societal too...

    right

  • @anastasia22266

tho I think the monologue wants to hint at that as it goes on, self-conscious as it is.

  • Is it a good thing when spoken "spontaneous" language in a film sounds like manicured, well-plotted written language...?

  • God, I love him.

  • @ericm2020 die in a fire for having an opinion? I'll get right on that bud.

  • can someone please explain this scene to me? Im so confused whats going on. I would appreciate it so much!

  • The moment that one realizes that he is the rapist... it's an ethereal realization.

  • wait did he rape that girl?

  • I love him, but this seems reeeeally pretentious.

  • hold on....................... is HE the rapist? or is he just talking about a girl wo got raped by someone else?

  • only a rather uneducated person would find this profound

  • @IbeJigsaw

Are you kidding? You've obviously never heard any educated person talk about David Foster Wallace's writings. I suppose that's not your fault.

  • I had chills the whole time... I almost started to cry. I love him. He is defiantly one of the best actors I have ever seen.

  • this was brilliant.

  • i tried not to, but i started laughing when he said "judge me, you bitch." ahah.

  • when you think about it, he's not too different from the rapist. they both tried to keep an emotional distance from their "prey",but were both convinced by the bond she faked. sad story.

  • if anyone tries to tell you krasinski can't act, show them this. bravo.

  • oh my god. that was amazing. i have a project in school in which i need to find and perform a monologue. i would love to do this one but its a bit too long and vulgar. dont get me wrong, i love vulgar. but the schools dont.

  • He is very amazing, to put it simply

  • i cried-so dramatic

  • everyone keeps talking about how the movie should have been about him and the girl who was raped...i feel like most of them don't get what was supposed to be conveyed in this. john himself called the character, "the only truly hideous man". he's a creep.

  • @Gilliannn1

He thought the rapist was the true hideous man? Or John's character?

  • @pomegranateish john's character, actually.
