They weren't gay. The girl's mother died, so Paul Reiser (her real dad) and Greg Evigan (her stepdad) were given custody of her. Why those dads lived together in the same apartment, I'll never know.

@JisNUMEROuno Even in 1987 there was testing that could prove who the real father was, I remember wondering about it even as a kid watching this show in the late 80s...but I think it was much more expensive back then I'm not sure, but the technology was there. Today the concept is much more far fetched, but point being even then it stretched crediblity that a paternity test couldn't be done.
