Maher equivocates corporatism and capitalism way too much. Companies don't issue dividends, corporations do. So he's criticizing capitalism on behalf of the faults of corporatism, which are mutually exclusive contexts. He makes the point that Bush cut federal taxes too much at once though.

@KataVideo The typical American consumer and our throw away society shares blame IMO. Most people want it cheap regardless of the greater consequences. @tharock220 And you're a champion of the Rich right who backs them up even though the wealthy elite of this country is what is tearing it apart. Just curious, do you make more than $250 k a year?
@robertoinfinite10 No I don't make $250k/year, and I probably never will. It doesn't change the fact that I don't feel the wealthy, who already pay more than half of income taxes, should pay more because you think the government owes you health insurance or some company thinks the government owes them a huge contract.
Complain about they poor a little. Most of them get back all the money they pay in back. How are the rich not paying enough if those people aren't paying enough???
@tharock220 Then who are you speaking for? You said it yourself you will never be a part of this elite click...It's not about giving handouts to people its about getting the deficit down so that the country doesn't default on all the debt your President Bush accrued in office by giving tax cuts to his buddy during war time.
You obviously don't know about the tax bracket system. The more you make the more you pay. That's how it's ALWAYS been.
@robertoinfinite10 I'm speaking from a rational point of view. Bush have tax cuts to EVERYBODY. The marginal taxes before the "Bush tax cuts" that everybody hates were higher for every bracket, but you only want to rescind them on the wealthy. Why?? Because like all liberals you want to solve problems with other people's money.
As for the debt accrued by Bush, well say something about Obama for being the only president to ever have a trillion dollar plus deficit.
@tharock220 Yea you rightwingers are all the same. Bush rolled a snowball down a mountain and now you blame Obama for the avalanche! LOL. Pathetic. How about LIKE I SAID Bush starting TWO WARS we can't afford and then cutting his friend's taxes??? And I HAVE NEVER SAID NOT TO REPEAL >MY< tax cuts. I'll contribute! Albeit it won't be as much as say a Bill Gates!!! Get your head out of the sand.
@robertoinfinite10 Yeah, that's right. Obama's stimulus failed because of Bush. Oh yeah it didn't fail. It didn't snap us out of the recession like Obama said it would in 2009 it kept us from another Great Depression like Obama said it did in 2010.
You think I'm supporting Bush's policies. I bitch all the time about starting two wars and not getting rid of the tax cuts which were meant to give back the surplus of 2001.
@tharock220 LMAO dude - you just got done arguing that the rich should keep their tax cuts...After you argued that it wasn't REAPLING TAX CUTS, but RAISING TAXES. lol You need to go argue with yourself from earlier because you seem confused...
@robertoinfinite10 Poe-Tay-Toe, Poe-Tah-Toe, I want all tax cuts made permanent and less military and social spending to go with it. It's my money, I earned it, and I want to keep it. I don't have this double standard you have seem to possess where the only people who deserve to keep what they earn are people who aren't wealthy. Repealing a tax cut is the same thing as a tax hike.
@tharock220 You make way too many uneducated assumptions. Fox tells you that people removed from the Right just want handouts and free money and want to punish the rich. No. We want the rich to stop being greedy and pay their fucking fair share now that the country needs them! Patriotism is a double edged sword, guy!
@robertoinfinite10 The wealthy already pay the majority of taxes in the country. You're the one who wants them to pay more because YOU don't want to, but somehow they're the ones who are greedy. They earned what they have not you. Stop being bitter or jealous because you're not rich. Either be happy with what you have or try working to improve things for yourself.
You may have never said don't repeal my tax cuts, but your constant harping on the rich gives it away.
@tharock220 Dude, Learn to READ. If they raised my taxes BACK to what they were before, it will come out to a few grand a year. If they do that to the rich, it would in be the HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS to MILLIONS. See my point? It won't hurt me, but these greedy fucks have enough money to afford MILLIONS in taxes and they're fighting this thing that could help save their country? Sorry but you're a narrow minded idiot fighting for those who don't care if you end up in a bread line.
@robertoinfinite10 Oh, so because they can afford it and you can't they should have to pay more. Like I said, fixing problems with other people's money is a liberal thing. I'm fighting to keep taxes low for everybody or raise taxes for everybody. We all benefit from what this country has to offer we all should have an equal share in paying for it.
your analysis is severely flawed because not everyone in this country has equal opportunity to attain lavish heights. when are you going to face reality? when will you understand that those who can afford to pay more and still live a lavish lifestyle should pay more?
@tharock220 "I'm fighting to keep taxes low for everybody or raise taxes for everybody."
I'll admit you have some ideas that aren't all bad. However, your knowledge of the history behind these issues is paltry indeed. The Bush Tax Cuts gave the wealthy TWICE the tax cut that was given to the middle class. As I've shown previously, even after these tax cuts (which right wingers claim creates job), unemployment continued to rise through Bush's term in office.
@kaysandesses Actually between the signing of JGTRRA and the 04 election unemployment had dropped a percentage point. What your saying is demonstrably wrong. The only thing I take issue with is the capital gains tax cut. It's flat out wrong to expect someone to pay a higher percentage of what they earn than you yourself are willing to pay.
@tharock220 "What your saying is demonstrably wrong. "
Demonstrably, eh? Don't use big words that you don't understand. It only makes you look dumber. According to the BOL stat's, UE was 4% when Bush assumed office, and 7.7% when he left. More jobs were created during the Clinton admin each year than Bush did in 8 years.
What's most humorous about our exchange is that every time you post you prove Maher's assertion that the right wing is full of gullible fools. HA HA HA HA HA
@tharock220 "We all benefit from what this country has to offer we all should have an equal share in paying for it"
The wealthy should pay a higher percentage because they benefit more from the services provided by tax money. These are mainly infrastructure services (public roads, airports, utilities, etc.). The man working for $10/hour gains little or no benefit beyond having clean water to drink and a flush toilet.
@kaysandesses That's the benefit we all pay for. Public roads are paid for in taxes before they're built and are equally accessible to everyone. Railroads and aiports cost money to use. Infrastructure is there to supply what's needed. Don't punish a guy because he has the initiative to make greater use of it so he can make money.
@tharock220 Poor people don't use infrastructure to make fortunes. Rich business owners do. They use the roads, railroads, etc. to move raw materials and finished products to market. They use a greater proportion of infrastructure and should accordingly pay more.
@tharock220 you and people like you are really sad. You're sheep that the rich wealthy elite have groomed to hate the things that THEY hate. They don't want to pay their fair share of taxes but they want a smaller government? You know what "smaller government" really means? Less oversight. Less scrutiny. More money. More taking advantage of migrant labor, shoddy working conditions, polluting our country, taking our money, shipping jobs overseas. I guess if you can't beat them join them, huh?
@robertoinfinite10 Oversight??? Lol, how can someone be so whoafully uninformed. Government spending basically goes two three things, the military, social security, and medicare/medicaid. So that oversight is an insignificant piece of the government pie. I'm not a sheep for anybody. I feel people are entitled to keep as much of what they EARN as possible.
@tharock220 Yeah oversight - Laws, agencies like the EPA, the ADA, the USDA, OSHA, as well as law enforcement that would watch over these greedy ass companies who would rape your mother and break her piggybank if they could get away with it. It's not insignificant as you would think. The Tea Party is digging their own grave without knowing it while the Fat Cats side on the sidelines drinking lemonade and cheering them on. SO u're AGAINST repealing the tax cuts again? Jesus read your last post...
@robertoinfinite10 lol, first of all the USDA isn't regulatory or oversight. It's an executive branch. Either way, what you're talking about is such a small part of the US budget that it hardly matters. The problem with you people is you can't see past what your party tells you you want, and since Obama has told you we need this, this, and this and we have to pay for it this way it's what you want. You haven't even thought to investigate the matter yourself.
@tharock220 "lol, first of all the USDA isn't regulatory or oversight. It's an executive branch."
lol, once again you're talking out of your ass, without any real facts or knowledge. What's really sad is that you're too lazy, or lack the integrity to find accurate information. The USDA has a whole section on their site discussing regulations:
"Regulations and directives are developed by USDA to ensure compliance with all relevant federal laws, executive orders, directives, and policies."
@kaysandesses No, the USDA's primary job is to provide services to farmers. Very little of it is regulatory. Regulator agencies don't get $100 billion.
@tharock220 dude you're grasping at straws. I can't buy your argument that "we" should keep "more of what we earn" when the argument is not whether or not we should be taxed at ALL, but whether or not the Tax CUTS that Bush put into effect should be UNDONE because the country is in trouble financially. You still haven't put up a good reason and you're failing. These tax cuts were supposed to create jobs, yet these companies are reaping record profits and unemployment is up. Make some sense. Jeez
@tharock220 I find it interesting that people who support tax cuts for the wealthy always mention the amount of tax the pay as a percentage of what is paid but never seem to mention how much wealth those same people control. How big a deal is paying half the tax if they control 90% of the wealth?
the rethugs keep stating jobs comes with lower taxes. WHERE ARE THE JOBS? Americans are enjoying the lowest tax rates in 50+ years... WHERE ARE THE JOBS THE RETHUGS PROMISED???
the rethugs conducted their campaigns in the run-up to the 2010 mid-terms with promises to bring JOBS to AMERICANS... WHERE ARE THE JOBS?
@tharock220 You are not only mentally handicapped but fail horribly and atrociously to keep up with any further info/data on your mediocre facts. Go back to the soon to be defunct fucks news.....
Time for Obama to declare martial law. Tham he can take all of these masochistic hillbillies and put them in glen becks fema camps. Turn there lard asses into food for pets. The world will better for the deaths of these worthless sacks of shit.
Hi, my name is Aaron Anderson. In memorial of little Caylee Anthony I have created a song and video. Please watch the video on my page and repost as much as possible! Thanks for the support!
Coulter was a nutbar during the entire show. She claimed government job holders were sucking the economy dry (the dude from The Nation neatly pointed out that half a million federal jobs have been CUT since Obama took office). She even claimed we could fight "37 Iraq wars" with the money paid out as Social Security in just one year. SS payouts currently stand at $750 billion, so the Iraq war cost is $20 billion? We spend that much just on air conditioning for the troops each year. She's nuts.
This clip is poignantly and trenchantly true. A metaphor needn't juxtapose two mechanically corresponding items to point out a tsunami of enlightening truths.
and just because we actually believe in our governments, doesn't make liberals communists. typical factious republicans, blowing everything out of proportion.
Obama is all about rhetoric. He should stop being hypocrite. It was Obama who extended Bush's taxes. It was Obama who bailed out Wall Street. If Obama was sincere, it would show on paper - be more practical than symbolic
@rodeo179 Uhm, Republicans held unemployment benefits hostage to insure the extension of their Bush tax cuts. And the bailout was thanks to Bush's signature.
@donnyforte2 - one can always find justification and excuses to rationalize the politics of his leader. I am sure Bush/republican supporters have their own rationales. The fact is that Obama has extended the policies of Bush -- acknowledged by analysts, his own party members, Bill Maher, etc. The Republicans were not going to give away their billionaires, so of course they would hold something hostage - but that does not excuse Obama's neglect of his party.
@rodeo179 "The fact is that Obama has extended the policies of Bush"
I don't understand how you say it's obvious that republicans are holding certain issues hostage (below), and then say it's Obama extending policies that Republicans are responsible for installing (like extending Bush tax cuts).
@ecks2elev2 - he should have said that while Obama was a candidate. "Since I will be cleaning the mess and Republicans will hold certain issues "hostage", don't expect 'change'. I will be no different than Bush or other Republicans." Obama will say anything to get elected and move up the ladder. Compare candidate Obama with President Obama - the latter is more like Bush II. a common knowledge to those who follow politics.
@rodeo179 he doesnt have to say th at. You tell me, how much time does it take to clean up a destroyed economy that took many years in the making. It puzzles me why you expect more from Obama than any other president. hmmmmmmmmm
Well he left out the panhandling to the Bible thumps, that is what keeps the GOP going. Cut education too so they won't see what they are doing.

tharock220 7 months ago
@tharock220 Yea you rightwingers are all the same. Bush rolled a snowball down a mountain and now you blame Obama for the avalanche! LOL. Pathetic. How about LIKE I SAID Bush starting TWO WARS we can't afford and then cutting his friend's taxes??? And I HAVE NEVER SAID NOT TO REPEAL >MY< tax cuts. I'll contribute! Albeit it won't be as much as say a Bill Gates!!! Get your head out of the sand.
robertoinfinite10 7 months ago
@robertoinfinite10 Yeah, that's right. Obama's stimulus failed because of Bush. Oh yeah it didn't fail. It didn't snap us out of the recession like Obama said it would in 2009 it kept us from another Great Depression like Obama said it did in 2010.
You think I'm supporting Bush's policies. I bitch all the time about starting two wars and not getting rid of the tax cuts which were meant to give back the surplus of 2001.
tharock220 7 months ago
@tharock220 LMAO dude - you just got done arguing that the rich should keep their tax cuts...After you argued that it wasn't REAPLING TAX CUTS, but RAISING TAXES. lol You need to go argue with yourself from earlier because you seem confused...
robertoinfinite10 7 months ago
@robertoinfinite10 Poe-Tay-Toe, Poe-Tah-Toe, I want all tax cuts made permanent and less military and social spending to go with it. It's my money, I earned it, and I want to keep it. I don't have this double standard you have seem to possess where the only people who deserve to keep what they earn are people who aren't wealthy. Repealing a tax cut is the same thing as a tax hike.
tharock220 7 months ago
@tharock220 You make way too many uneducated assumptions. Fox tells you that people removed from the Right just want handouts and free money and want to punish the rich. No. We want the rich to stop being greedy and pay their fucking fair share now that the country needs them! Patriotism is a double edged sword, guy!
robertoinfinite10 7 months ago
@robertoinfinite10 The wealthy already pay the majority of taxes in the country. You're the one who wants them to pay more because YOU don't want to, but somehow they're the ones who are greedy. They earned what they have not you. Stop being bitter or jealous because you're not rich. Either be happy with what you have or try working to improve things for yourself.
You may have never said don't repeal my tax cuts, but your constant harping on the rich gives it away.
tharock220 7 months ago
@tharock220 Dude, Learn to READ. If they raised my taxes BACK to what they were before, it will come out to a few grand a year. If they do that to the rich, it would in be the HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS to MILLIONS. See my point? It won't hurt me, but these greedy fucks have enough money to afford MILLIONS in taxes and they're fighting this thing that could help save their country? Sorry but you're a narrow minded idiot fighting for those who don't care if you end up in a bread line.

Classic! Well said.
kaysandesses 7 months ago
@robertoinfinite10 Oh, so because they can afford it and you can't they should have to pay more. Like I said, fixing problems with other people's money is a liberal thing. I'm fighting to keep taxes low for everybody or raise taxes for everybody. We all benefit from what this country has to offer we all should have an equal share in paying for it.
tharock220 7 months ago
@tharock220
your analysis is severely flawed because not everyone in this country has equal opportunity to attain lavish heights. when are you going to face reality? when will you understand that those who can afford to pay more and still live a lavish lifestyle should pay more?
astraia1x 7 months ago
@tharock220 "I'm fighting to keep taxes low for everybody or raise taxes for everybody."
I'll admit you have some ideas that aren't all bad. However, your knowledge of the history behind these issues is paltry indeed. The Bush Tax Cuts gave the wealthy TWICE the tax cut that was given to the middle class. As I've shown previously, even after these tax cuts (which right wingers claim creates job), unemployment continued to rise through Bush's term in office.
kaysandesses 7 months ago
@kaysandesses Actually between the signing of JGTRRA and the 04 election unemployment had dropped a percentage point. What your saying is demonstrably wrong. The only thing I take issue with is the capital gains tax cut. It's flat out wrong to expect someone to pay a higher percentage of what they earn than you yourself are willing to pay.
tharock220 7 months ago
@tharock220 "What your saying is demonstrably wrong. "
Demonstrably, eh? Don't use big words that you don't understand. It only makes you look dumber. According to the BOL stat's, UE was 4% when Bush assumed office, and 7.7% when he left. More jobs were created during the Clinton admin each year than Bush did in 8 years.
What's most humorous about our exchange is that every time you post you prove Maher's assertion that the right wing is full of gullible fools. HA HA HA HA HA
kaysandesses 7 months ago
@tharock220 "We all benefit from what this country has to offer we all should have an equal share in paying for it"
The wealthy should pay a higher percentage because they benefit more from the services provided by tax money. These are mainly infrastructure services (public roads, airports, utilities, etc.). The man working for $10/hour gains little or no benefit beyond having clean water to drink and a flush toilet.
kaysandesses 7 months ago
@kaysandesses That's the benefit we all pay for. Public roads are paid for in taxes before they're built and are equally accessible to everyone. Railroads and aiports cost money to use. Infrastructure is there to supply what's needed. Don't punish a guy because he has the initiative to make greater use of it so he can make money.
tharock220 7 months ago
@tharock220 Poor people don't use infrastructure to make fortunes. Rich business owners do. They use the roads, railroads, etc. to move raw materials and finished products to market. They use a greater proportion of infrastructure and should accordingly pay more.
You lose AGAIN dumbass.
kaysandesses 7 months ago 2
@tharock220 "Oh, so because they can afford it and you can't they should have to pay more."
That's what tax brackets dictate, dummy - so YES. They SHOULD have to pay more.
robertoinfinite10 7 months ago
@tharock220 you and people like you are really sad. You're sheep that the rich wealthy elite have groomed to hate the things that THEY hate. They don't want to pay their fair share of taxes but they want a smaller government? You know what "smaller government" really means? Less oversight. Less scrutiny. More money. More taking advantage of migrant labor, shoddy working conditions, polluting our country, taking our money, shipping jobs overseas. I guess if you can't beat them join them, huh?
robertoinfinite10 7 months ago 2
@robertoinfinite10 Oversight??? Lol, how can someone be so whoafully uninformed. Government spending basically goes two three things, the military, social security, and medicare/medicaid. So that oversight is an insignificant piece of the government pie. I'm not a sheep for anybody. I feel people are entitled to keep as much of what they EARN as possible.
tharock220 7 months ago
@tharock220 Yeah oversight - Laws, agencies like the EPA, the ADA, the USDA, OSHA, as well as law enforcement that would watch over these greedy ass companies who would rape your mother and break her piggybank if they could get away with it. It's not insignificant as you would think. The Tea Party is digging their own grave without knowing it while the Fat Cats side on the sidelines drinking lemonade and cheering them on. SO u're AGAINST repealing the tax cuts again? Jesus read your last post...
robertoinfinite10 7 months ago
@robertoinfinite10 lol, first of all the USDA isn't regulatory or oversight. It's an executive branch. Either way, what you're talking about is such a small part of the US budget that it hardly matters. The problem with you people is you can't see past what your party tells you you want, and since Obama has told you we need this, this, and this and we have to pay for it this way it's what you want. You haven't even thought to investigate the matter yourself.
tharock220 7 months ago
@tharock220 "lol, first of all the USDA isn't regulatory or oversight. It's an executive branch."
lol, once again you're talking out of your ass, without any real facts or knowledge. What's really sad is that you're too lazy, or lack the integrity to find accurate information. The USDA has a whole section on their site discussing regulations:
"Regulations and directives are developed by USDA to ensure compliance with all relevant federal laws, executive orders, directives, and policies."
kaysandesses 7 months ago
@kaysandesses No, the USDA's primary job is to provide services to farmers. Very little of it is regulatory. Regulator agencies don't get $100 billion.
tharock220 7 months ago
@tharock220 dude you're grasping at straws. I can't buy your argument that "we" should keep "more of what we earn" when the argument is not whether or not we should be taxed at ALL, but whether or not the Tax CUTS that Bush put into effect should be UNDONE because the country is in trouble financially. You still haven't put up a good reason and you're failing. These tax cuts were supposed to create jobs, yet these companies are reaping record profits and unemployment is up. Make some sense. Jeez
robertoinfinite10 7 months ago
@tharock220 I find it interesting that people who support tax cuts for the wealthy always mention the amount of tax the pay as a percentage of what is paid but never seem to mention how much wealth those same people control. How big a deal is paying half the tax if they control 90% of the wealth?
wolfshead56 7 months ago 2
@tharock220 And repealing tax cuts is NOT an increase. Jesus get some sense.

the rethugs keep stating jobs comes with lower taxes.
WHERE ARE THE JOBS BOEHNER AND CANTOR PROMISED?

Coulter was a nutbar during the entire show. She claimed government job holders were sucking the economy dry (the dude from The Nation neatly pointed out that half a million federal jobs have been CUT since Obama took office). She even claimed we could fight "37 Iraq wars" with the money paid out as Social Security in just one year. SS payouts currently stand at $750 billion, so the Iraq war cost is $20 billion? We spend that much just on air conditioning for the troops each year. She's nuts.
HorseshitDetector 7 months ago 14
@HorseshitDetector To put it in perspective, that $20 billion for just for AC for the troops is more than the budget for NASA.

Obama is all about rhetoric. He should stop being hypocrite. It was Obama who extended Bush's taxes. It was Obama who bailed out Wall Street. If Obama was sincere, it would show on paper - be more practical than symbolic
rodeo179 7 months ago
@rodeo179 Uhm, Republicans held unemployment benefits hostage to insure the extension of their Bush tax cuts. And the bailout was thanks to Bush's signature.

@donnyforte2 - one can always find justification and excuses to rationalize the politics of his leader. I am sure Bush/republican supporters have their own rationales. The fact is that Obama has extended the policies of Bush -- acknowledged by analysts, his own party members, Bill Maher, etc. The Republicans were not going to give away their billionaires, so of course they would hold something hostage - but that does not excuse Obama's neglect of his party.
rodeo179 7 months ago
@rodeo179 "The fact is that Obama has extended the policies of Bush"
I don't understand how you say it's obvious that republicans are holding certain issues hostage (below), and then say it's Obama extending policies that Republicans are responsible for installing (like extending Bush tax cuts).
donnyforte2 7 months ago
@rodeo179 bush signed the first bail out. this is common knowledge. Obama had to clean up bushes mess.
ecks2elev2 7 months ago
@ecks2elev2 - he should have said that while Obama was a candidate. "Since I will be cleaning the mess and Republicans will hold certain issues "hostage", don't expect 'change'. I will be no different than Bush or other Republicans." Obama will say anything to get elected and move up the ladder. Compare candidate Obama with President Obama - the latter is more like Bush II. a common knowledge to those who follow politics.
rodeo179 7 months ago
@rodeo179 What good from admitting the obvious?
donnyforte2 7 months ago
@rodeo179 he doesnt have to say th at. You tell me, how much time does it take to clean up a destroyed economy that took many years in the making. It puzzles me why you expect more from Obama than any other president. hmmmmmmmmm
