  • nice i loved that engine

  • Reminds me of the rts buses in nyc.

  • You're right about that.

  • Thats one damn good bus.....love the paint scheme!

  • Thanks.

    I'm glad you like it.

  • They used to have the old "Long Beach Transit" style paint scheme (white with blue stripe and arrow).

  • Wow. That sounds really nice. Its just like NYC's nova bus. I also like the color.

  • Glad you like it.

  • Please record more of them. :)

  • Not sure how many more years the Washoe County RTC will have their S50/VR-731 powered RTS buses.

I'll see what I can do.

  • I understand. I think NYC's rts days are numbered too. Anyway thanks.

  • We need some more RTSs 4SP ATs. We can't just toss 'em away. EWW!

  • @AdmiralArcher

Too bad that Millennium Transit Services (which was the present day builder of the RTS) filed Ch. 11 bankruptcy protection in 2008 and ceased operations in 2009. Who knows what bus builder wants the RTS design?

  • @Sulaco516

They are just about to replace them right now.

RTC Just put like 12 articulated buses onto the RAPID rout. And the busses that were originally on that rout will be used to replace the old NOVAs.

  • @igotbored44

Those new diesel-electric hybrid articulated buses were built by New Flyer Industries.

  • I cant stand this sound on the old GMCs coaches. This is the Cummins M11 with the Allison B300R btw. Why did they take out the 6V92TA and the Voith for as well? What year wa this GMC coach recoded in?

  • The last model year of the GM RTS was 1987.

Washoe County RTC does not use Cummins M11 on their RTS buses, nor do they use a Voith transmission or Allison B300R transmission on their RTS buses.

They did use GM versions of the RTS with the Detroit Diesel 6V92TA, those have been decommissioned.

  • Great video, it sounds just like our RTSs here in NYC. It even has the 731 whine that I got a few recordings of.

  • Glad to hear it.

  • The only engine I like better than the S50 is the 6v92TA. Great video!

  • Thank you.

  • rts are my favs!

  • Glad to hear it.

  • J/ noticed that these RTS buses also kept the original GMC design as far as the rear doors are concerned. NYC MTA RTS buses have always had deep-set, push-out, brake associated, rear doors, like Grumman Flxible buses. These body contoured, sliding rear doors with sharp window corners are the original General Motors type.

  • That's good to know.

  • Correction: I was searching my bus photo gallery and even NYC MTA RTS buses from '82 had the deep-set, push-out rear doors w/ sharp window corners. Both, apparently are General Motors designs.

  • sounds like PVTA's (Springfield, Mass) Nova RTS's and Cleveland's Nova RTS "WFDs". The Allison VR-731 ATEC is standard issue on Series 50 powered RTS's unless the property orders the ZF HP590.

  • I saw 462 again at the Meadowood Mall Transit Center on Route 9 (Kietzke/Neil) on 04/14/2008.

  • What year is that bus? I love RTSes. Sounds like Gary Indiana's Nova RTS.

  • Not sure of the model year (TMC RTS with Series 50, 1993-94, or NovaBus RTS with Series 50, 1994-2002), or if it's a TMC or NovaBus-built bus.

  • Sounds like an NYC RTS with v731 or ZF Ecomat. I'd have to hear it go into second gear. The bus would sound so out of place there in Washoe, cuz I associate all RTS sounds with lower New Yok City. lol. Nice take off.

  • You're welcome.
