Granted it takes A LOT of skill to shred and to shred cleanly, BUT it's far more important to play something that's musical than to be able to push the limits of manual dexterity. Besides, shredding just sounds like shit anyways.

many great improvisers (such as jimmy page) have a sort of "pocket" of musical ideas that they often reach into during improvisation, so its sort of prepared but not really. plus you never really know. this was a really good performance even for him. you never know what you will come up with when you really connect with your instrument.

Yeah I know, I play bass too, both in jazz and in heavy metal, and I've got that pocket concept too, but of course less extended than VIctor. But I think I'm getting a grasp of the Wooten way of improvising. Takes a lot of practice though, but that's fun to do ;P

Once again, the harmonic at 1:01 is played by slightly touching the string with your thumb, nail or whatever you want. The important thing is to "touch" the string right at two otaves higher. So if you want to do that with the G on the E-string you have to touch the string at the position, where the 27th would be. If you do it like that, it is possible on every bass!

@MrMarsz Mr mstepjacker14 is right he does that by light touch of string with his nail which makes this kind of harmonic ( talking about left hend ), while right hand is bending the string...amazing trick but doesnt work on every base, I've tried it on cheap fender bass and the harmonic didnt came out clearly... anyways if you have fodera monarch bass its not suppose to be a big deal for you ;)

Is as cptnpips sais, just touching the second string two octaves higher. But once I tryed for two hours to literaly hold the string and pull and it worked!! The sound remained just for like 1/4 of second but I felt happy for the rest of the week, you just have to hit string then touch it with delicacy with one finger and then hold it with the other one also just touching superficialy and then pull. It is not difficult, and maybe it was cuz of the amplifier but it sounds amaizing.
