mic33 george. How I second your remarks!Unfortunately most of them seem to excel not in talent but in the field of fornication with any,all or anybody, indiscriminately. The italo-american slut "madge" is a prime example.

I had read about her but this is the first time that I hear her sing, what a sweet voice!! She reminds me of Ramona and her grand Piano....those singers from the 30s were just the best!!!
Hildegarde and my grt-aunt were friends, they met on a Trans-Atlantic cruise in August 1952 (S.S.United States). I was never sure which Hildegarde (Kneff of Sell) it was from the family stories but then I confirmed it by looking at passenger records. I met Hildegarde at the Russian Tea Room in 1991. She was lovely.
Very good voice I uploaded a live version of Im going to see you today with Gracie Fields on to youtube a rare radio transcriptions and as there is not much Hildegarde, thought it might be of interest I have corrected the spelling oops left the e off hildegarde Thanks for this charming.
i love her voice so pretty and simple thank you for posting this ! i have never heard of her before either - but i like her a lot - why cant we have more music like this again ? just simple pretty things again - not humping around sex stuff on the radio and videos i get so disgusted of those
I read her biography over Thanksgiving and I must admit I had never heard of her before. I am so glad you posted this because I was wonderfing what she sounded like playing the piano and singing. She was very good.
I believe her name was Hildegarde Szell and was from Milwaukee. She went to Europe and became an especially big star in France before coming back to the US and becoming a star here, tho I don't think ever as big as she was in Europe.
She was a great gift to the 20th Century. I was fortunate to meet her and hear her sing at the Russian Tea Room NYC in the early 1990's,...and yes, she was wearing her full length white gloves.
No, her full name was Hildegarde Loretta Sell (no "z" in the last name, as RRaquello stated above), and she was born in Wisconsin in 1906. She just died in 2005.
Beautiful, timeless quality.

The Kingston Trio thought highly enough of Hildegarde to mention her in their live performances in the mid-1960s. And that's saying a lot.

I remember meeting her in NY in the late 80's, very charming and kind woman. She was a fine entertainer, with an engaging quality.

She was a brilliant talent! and an excellent pianist - classically trained. It's a rare treat seeing and hearing her in her youth. She was a beauty.

This video is so charming. Hildegarde was lovely, like a sweet little bird, both in her beauty and her singing voice.

This is Hildegarde Neff? I remember her from the 40s. She was a lot more sophisticated later. No wonder my dad was nuts about her.

No, this is another singer, simply called "Hildegarde", see other videos from the 1970's.
