@kingmaddog2 No it's not, the Daytona 500 is a race, it is the first race of the season, which is 36 races. The 36 race season is a championship. One race in said 36 race season is not a championship.
I was not a true fan of him, but I respected him despite his actions on the track. I was devastated. The most emotional day in NASCAR history. We, the NASCAR community, will miss Dale and the #3 car. He is, probably, the greatest person ever to get behind the wheel of a stock car. R.I.P. Dale Earnhardt (1951-2001).:(
Man, I sure miss Dale Sr. If he was still here, maybe he could have over 80-90 wins, Dale Jr. could be fighting for a title every year (maybe win one), Jimmie Johnson wouldn't have won 5 titles... NASCAR would be so much different if it was the Daytona 497,5 in 2001, not the Daytona 500.
@jazzbo1974: If he won it, then again there's a mistake, 'cause he also mentioned Alan Kulwicki, who won the 1992 championship. So, if Davey would win the '92 title, Alan wouldn't, so he wouldn't be a champion...
i dint know this till the next morning because this was my first race that i saw ever down in florida. my mom told me to go to the pool for the rest of the day. i saw espn the next morning with my dad and pepere and i just cried there for hours and never forgot that day RIP The man in black 1951-2001
I was there with my dad. It was devastating. We was heading back home to Wisconsin and mom calls and says yall need to pull over. Dad goes why and i hear mom say Dales Dead. I started Crying he was a great man who cared about everyone. Never again should we see the Black 3 in NSCS
i know this really isnt that important, but massaro said kulwicki and allison both passed away after winning cup championships, but davey never won a championship
still feel the same way i do when i heard about this after the race me and my dad went to walmart my mom and my sister had church plans we were in walmart when i seen it break on tv and i remember my dad coming up to me in tears man that day will live forever as one of the saddest days in my life and nascar
I agree with CnyAutoFreak, Dale would never have driven again if he had survived. He would have been miserable if he couldn't race- racing was his life. I saw an interview with some of his closest friends that said he acted like he knew it was coming weeks before the race. He was talking like he wouldn't make it through that season of racing. He was an awesome driver and he died doing what he loved. This broadcast is a very creepy one though with the trailers driving past in the background.
WSBT960 id love to agree with you believe me. but I have seen with my own two eyes that belt that broke. and it wouldn't have mattered. he also suffered massive rib cage damage from his body going into the steering column. I Want To Make It Clear. I am a life long fan of Dale Sr. and will always be, but he was going to at the very best, never drive a racecar again after that accident, even with the HANS and a closed face helmet. the belt breaking was enough to end his career. R.I.P. Dale Sr.
This is where it all got started. The SAFER Barrier. The HANS. The COT. Everything. Earnhardt was a great man with a lot of talent, yet what cost him his life was the absence of the HANS. And he wasnt alone. Out of the 43 drivers, 36 did not wear the HANS. And the irony and death surrounding this.
1:36-2:22 was weird. First it showed Dale's Truck, then his 3 drivers truck Waltrip, Earnhardt Jr, and Park truck then the guy he crashed with Ken Schrader's truck
Those are probably souvenir trailers, which are painted like the team haulers, but not as big. Still, it's a pretty wild coincidence for them to pass just as they're shooting the video.
