This talk is simply full of lies and misinformation.

It is almost never that the speaker explains what has led to Israel to act the way it has. The speaker fails to mention Israeli civilians being directly targeted by Hamas for a few years by shooting rockets both from both Gaza and Lebanon.

For some unknown reason Israel has not attached Jordan, Syria or Egypt - since no attacks on Israel have been coming from these countries.

Same here in The Netherlands. We have been brought up with collective shame for the holocaust and what I call the Anne Frank Syndrome. Our government bindly supports Israel and the US. Frustrated Palestines are of course portrayed as terrorists and Israelis as defenders against agression. There is a powerful lobby by jewish institutions that miss no chance to play the antisemitism card. But people start to understand what is going on and deeply object to Israel's seemingly untouchable position.

hey, read your comments, i am an english speaking russian, and i speak german as well, i am thinking of getting this translated into german/russian.

i too was surprised at how unknown Chomsky is in germany, some friends of mine are studying Politics (!) at the university there and their professors have never mentioned him during the lectures. in fact, i looked at their lectures and i found them most reactionary.

i just feel something must be done.

Zionism in Chomsky's youth was a wider movement, which included an anti-state socialist left, of which he was a part. After the establishment of the Israeli state, his position became moot, and would now be considered anti-zionist.

HAMAS crimes are certainly real, but it does not follow that US-Israel can respond by force.

Also, unless you are Palestinian, it is really gratuitous to condemn HAMAS crime and not your own crimes. Chomsky's emphasis on the US support for Israeli crimes is due to the fact that he is an US citizen and partly responsible for those crimes.

How else do you respond to 6000 rocket attacks other than by force? Colourful language, feather dusters? Also Chomskys critique should not be skewed by his own nationality; one should endeavour to undertake OBJECTIVE analyse.

You can end the rocket attacks by accepting the two-state solution, which HAMAS already accepts. You can end the rocket attacks by ending the occupation, which has been ruled illegal by the highest judicial body in international law.

The point about him being American is that he is primarily responsible for the actions that he can effect, which involves massive support for the crimes Israel is committing, and have been committing for 40 years, before all the rockets.

This is where criticism of Israel goes too far as you become an apologist for terrorists. So you think a 2 state solution will bring peace? You obviously have not read the HAMAS Charter which calls for the total destruction of Israel. This isn't just a nationalistic issue for HAMAS, but rather about establishing Islamic hegemony in the region and globally. HAMAS are the Palestinian branch of the Salafi Muslim Brotherhood who seek to establish a global Caliphate. Read about it!

HAMAS has officially and repeatedly stated that they will reverse their chartered position if Israel accepts the 1967 border, which is the framework for the two state solution.

I personally don't like (in fact, very much against) nationalist movements, but in this case it would mean the great likelihood of relative peace and an end to a 40 year occupation.

We want to be part of the international community. I think Hamas has no interest now to increase the number of crises in Gaza or to challenge the world.

Hamad continued,

We accept a state in the 67 borders. We are not talking about the destruction of Israel.

No PRE 1967 borders. This is the same Ghazi Hamad who in 2006 said "Israel should be wiped from the face of the Earth. It is an animal state that recognises no human worth. It is a cancer that should be eradicated." ..and called for more suicide bombings. Remember making and then breaking temporary truces are mandated in Salafi Islam as practiced by Muhammad himself (with Koreish tribe I think).

I would like to add that I am no spokesperson for Israel. The Orthodox Jewish settlers are just as loopy as Hamas and believe they have divine rights to the land as written in religious texts. My point is that Chomsky is undeniably pro Arab in his analysis. People like Chomsky is extremely unhelpful as the civilised world faces a long struggle against Islamic fundamentalism and the left simply dont understand the route cause or driving motivation of these fanatics.

I never said we should ignore the crimes committed by HAMAS, nor has Chomsky. But you can read about their crimes in every western report on the situation. Only in dissident circles will you find discussions of US-Israeli crimes, which are far more extensive and a result of policies that we can effect.
