  • Wish the videos were not cut off before they end. What is the problem??? Now that google has bought Youtube, you can post as long a video as you want!

  • @Catwink41 Dude Google bought Youtube like 5 years ago

  • @progilspice Yes they did. I am aware of this. There is no reason for any video being cut off, Dude. Cheers from Granny, I am not a Dude. I guess I am a dudette!.

  • @Catwink41 Quit saying like every other word in your sentence. I challenge you today to not say LIKE!

  • THANK YOU!!! These Youtube videos are GOLD. Went went out and bought good earphones just for this!! Sennheisers HD. Go ahead. This is pure joy!!

  • 15 people have not practiced their long tones lately....

  • i found out about this man from a film i see the other day.was play misty for me..with clint eastwood in it.

  • What a great band....that's why they all individually are so great.

  • @ 5:26 My ears Came

  • I'm new to Jazz. I usally listen to Hip Hop but Man O Man. I must say this is one of my Favorites. . Glad i had to do a report on Cannonball or i would of never found this.. my neighbors complaining because I'm playing this on speakers. .

    @ 4:18 i Flipped! !

  • @kevsrapmusic That's great to read....funnily enough, some of the best hip hop - the real stuff - has sampled many of these old tunes very well.

  • 14 people are jive artists...

  • i feel bad for nat. his abilities are always so underrated because of his brother.

  • @4tothepowerofcheese I feel that cannonballs improvisation skills are better but Nat's writing skills are amazing as welll though I feel they are over looked.

  • @4tothepowerofcheese I agree....Nat's playing is way up there. His feel, use of space and timing is superb.

  • @4tothepowerofcheese Nat and Julian really loved one another...his sister-in -law said when Julian passed, the whole house felt empty.....can you imagine.

  • Thanks for this Masterpiece!

    Congratulations from Spain.

  • The year I was born

  • @yourbiglebowski go and die

  • GSA "Project Funk Jam"/ "All Blues"

  • This is so good

  • Do I ever miss Cannonball. I was fortunate to live in Chicago and had witnessed in person his monstrous talent. This group with Yosef one incredible.

  • Love It!

  • Cool!

  • Playing with Cannonball and Nat must have been the greatest feeling in the world! Watch how happy they are listening to each other's solos. Pure joy! These were enlightened beings.

  • The beginning reminds me of The Doors,Break on Through

  • Does anyone have a copy of The Adderlies + Zawinul performing Rumpelstiltskin?

Please please please please PLEASE post it if you do

    Cheers

  • 14 dislikes,,hahah ,,, 14 jerkoffs...how the fuck if your a jazz player and you end up on this page you dont like this...go suc a dick

  • At first glance one might think, "who's the dorky white guy on piano?" Why, only the founder of Weather Report and father of all modern synth-patch artistry Joe Zawinul. Almost didn't recognize him without the trademark hat and 'stache. thanks for posting.

  • Wow, some really contrived stuff on these comments...

  • love the "asthmatic" breathing and flutter tongue noises of the flute on the record.

  • I don't know how to describe it but it's great. Quincy Just sampled this again. Sounds really good. I love real music.

    -Jillian

  • This song is happy and the instrumental sounds just mellow together to create this great piece.

    -Lequeria West

  • this might be one of the only videos on youtube with a legit conversation about the video going on in the comments and not bad jokes or trolling

  • This song has a African feel to it because of the drums. Its very soothing and its great to hear jazz that makes you want to start dancing.

    -Amina S.

  • I don't really understand jazz...but this seems like just a smooth selection. Something that you can just sit and listen to at the end of a long day just to relax.

  • THis song gives off such a positive vibe. It makes you want to get up and dance to it, regardless of where you are. i also love the smooth sound of the sax :)

  • I love the vibe they are able to present all listeners with. It's like taking a vacation away from your own troubles and worries.

  • Nice Sound. Its the sort of song that make you happy on a sad day, or just because you want to hear some calming music.

  • It's interesting to observe how the musicians get really in tune with their instruments. It is really apparent that they can feel the music as they play.

  • With no words I felt everyone had their own chance to evaluate the song. The last jazz piece was by Cannonball Adderley - Jive Samba – 1963. I absolutely love the music! Piece was very classical and a movement to create better jazz artist. -gebria b

  • I'm not really a fan of jazz music. But I like that this was a way blacks during the BAM expressed him or herself.

  • 1:24

    #4 is HEAVEN

  • I had sax to this with my girlfriend....till I jazzed all over her. I'm available for parties, weddings, bar mitzvahs etc... sorry Im drunk!

  • Cannonball never ceases to amaze this is one of my all-time favorite alto solos and the thing he does at 2:26 always gives me goosebumps lol I'd luv 2 learn how to do that

  • @11johnnyc

That's the famous Adderley trill. You play high B, C, C# and D all while trilling the high E key and scooping each note.

  • @GeneralDAS Bb, D, Eb, E, F my friend

  • @GeneralDAS Bb, D, Eb, E, F...my friend

  • @brownem912 Huh? No?

  • @GeneralDAS it depends on what part of the trill you are talking about...sit down in front of a keyboard, listen to the part and play it

  • @brownem912 Why would I use my piano when I have my saxophone right here? Those notes you said have nothing to do this the any part of the trill. Look up the Adderley Trill on Google, you'll see.

  • @GeneralDAS I clearly hear the pitches Bb, D, Eb, E, F. at the root of each trill. And I played it on my piano to make sure what the keys were. Not sure what google says, but I trust my ears and fingers ...lol. Maybe you can help me understand the theory you are using .

  • @brownem912 First off, I think you're thinking in Concert Key. A Bb on the piano is different than fingering a Bb on the saxophone.

  • @GeneralDAS Oh damn! LOL..you know what? I completely forgot about transposing for Alto Sax. (Eb) My bad.

  • Love the music!

But, um, doesn't it look a bit like Lateef is wearing a pair of fake glasses with nose and mustache an' all?

Not a criticism, just an observation.

  • didnt know the flautist was the one who made that sound... sick @________@

  • That trill is the piff.

  • Sounds like the doors in the beggining

  • what a conversation between sax and a trumpet!

  • This is fantastic stuff!!! What a shame he died so early.

  • Jive Samba, lol

  • Cannonball is smokin' man .....

    Great clip --- Thanks !

  • What a solo is that! Cannonball 4ever ;-)

  • I'm going to quote McLovin from Superbad: Tight!

  • Just Kicking it at the BBQ Shack

  • Oh comon Cannonball you have to do somehting more DIFFICULT

  • fantastic, thanks for posting!

I've just posted a jive samba themed post over at scratchynoise

    come check it out! peace.

  • Clave rythm! :P

  • This music shouldn't be compared to rap ( hiphop) which is made over the loop of a break beat in order to enable the flow and ease of delivery of spoken word. Totally different objective

  • SWING LOW SWEET CHARIOT

  • Rap is not music. This is music.

  • Cannonball's technique is exquisite. His style here mirrors his work with Miles/Trane in the Columbia Recordings. Bottom line: This is great stuff. Words can't describe it.

  • the fact that even as much 12 people not liking this video is actually amazing

  • This looks like a happy band - a band confident in themselves and each other enough to take an understated solo Serving the music first before themselves. This attitude was surely what Zawinul lived by, maybe he learned it from these guys.

  • @pierstheoneandonly What you said about "an understated solo" - very hip. Too much playing these days is all about "look how fast I can play" That said, anyone following a solo by Cannonball would be best off being a bit understated.

  • swingin'

  • The flute solo sounds like an extremely polite saxaphone solo.

  • 4:31 Jazz flute solo!

  • loving this and the flute .

  • isn't jive and samba two different stlyes?

  • @nhisgreat thats exactly the point :)

mixing together elements of both genres. seems more of jive/swing though

  • My dad hipped me to this song when I was probably 11. I have never stopped liking it. Damn, what a band.

  • jazz music in my opinion is one of the most difficult music genres to play... especially jazz guitar( for me at least)... the whole thing is improvising.... something i am not good at :( but anyway these guys are awesome :P

  • damn that was boss...

  • !!! S.A.M.B.A !!! Precisa mais comentários?

  • does someone know the chords for rythm guitar?

  • This is what Jazz should be, not some fuc*ed up fusion shit.......Pure, simple and amazing!

  • @GrimDoA Funny you should say that, as the piano player in this video clip - Zawinul - was one of key figures in early jazz fusion.

  • @jsem94 Yeah you can't stop progress and that was the trend of the day so to speak. Further proof that while change is inevitable it does not necessarily mean change will happen for the better. Your mileage at home may vary of course.

  • @GrimDoA Oh, yeah!! I detest that fusion crap. It doesn't say anything.

    It had no denouement.

Straight ahead jazz like Cannonball and Nat blew SAYS SOMETHING.

  • good stuff!

  • The way Cannonball starts dancing as soon as his solo ends makes me smile every time. So into it.

  • Coll ... Love It <3

  • Comment removed

  • Cannonball inspired me to play jazz. thanks for posting, great great stuff.

  • You didn't include the flute guy in the credits!! He was awesome!

  • Nat is cookin'!

  • Played at my high school at an assembly in 1966. Can't imagine musicians showing up at a school nowadays and giving a free performance. We loved it , and I can name more than three songs from his repertoire ;-). A shame the music education has been gutted from the schools and kids now have to relie on their own resources. A belated thanks to a great artist for bringing the music to us.

Thanks for posting this fabulous performance that brought back such good memories.

  • 1:48... Insanely clean run.

  • 4 years later, a fine cover by The Remo Four, more rocking, with a definitive drum solo by Roy Dyke:

    ...youtube.com/watch?v=K5-Vax2muTI&feature=related

  • I like the sax combo, and how they compliment one another. I also like how the trumpet is combined in with this to make it even more jazzy, and adds a little something extra to the piece. I like how this group has a string bass. This piece displays the flute so much better than the other one. Much prettier.

  • @Emmy1417 NICE.

  • Such a great song! I also like how this group has a little diversity in race. The instruments definitely blend very well together.- Anthony P.

  • This could be such a great song while riding on elevator. I love listening to the sax and that's why I give this video a thumbs up. You can hear the difference in instruments, and the blend works well.

    -James

  • @happyazn247 dude, really c-mon........ in an elevator........really........well that would be a great idea if elevator music didn-t suck

  • @bluesmanguate No, I meant this is really good though, I'm not trying to say that its bad or anything.

  • @happyazn247 He actually was. You might want to look in the description again.

  • This piece in particular has a really nice blend of instruments. I love how they can blend but still sound so unique, I can hear the difference between the two saxophones but they sound so great together. It's just cool how the musicians in a band all start with the same melody and then take turns improvising and making it their own. I'm starting to really appreciate jazz now because of seeing these videos :) -Emily M.

  • I find it really interesting the way Jazz is performed. It almost is like all the different instruments ding their own thing but it all comes together very nicely. Since i haven't listened to much Jazz in my life it is cool watching these videos because it doesn't only give me a perspective of the sound of the music but also the way it was performed and how the artists looked and acted.

  • THIS - IS - MUSIC... ESTO - ES - MÚSICA, locooooooo!!!!

  • The bomb!

  • thumbs up if 2:26 is beast

  • Yep his brother looks at him and smiles. He knows he cant do anything like that, but thats fine.

  • @jonathan200c The famous adderley trill :) amen brother

  • @jonathan200c How is this technique done?

  • @jonathan200c fuckin adderley trill... so beast

  • @jonathan200c the technique he uses there is actually called the adderly thrill

  • @jonathan200c if you know how to play that it isn't all that hard ;)

  • what a great conversation

    give and take.

    listen and talk

  • the flute takes the best part. i love it.

  • This is sweet!

  • Holy mother of god! What's Nat doing from 4:04 to 4:14? Amazing!

  • @xangelofdeathx1982 False Fingering!!! A superb example of it. Nat's underrated...

  • @xangelofdeathx1982 A standard trick ...he's "toggling" the 3rd valve with an open E...both notes are E, but it creates an interested staccato effect....like when a guitarist hits the same note alternately on different strings. He's also throwing in the first valve (high f) here too....tres kool solo, daddio

  • flute solo: amazing 4:15

  • Just a great song, great solo's.

    Thanks for the upload :)

  • i love the trumpet solo @ 2:48

  • A "Best of" from Cannonball was the first-ever jazz-record I've bought. I've had no idea about it, so it was more randomly chosen. Afterwards I've bought a little more jazz-records...

  • @bigbadberlin I have that album as well. One of the few albums I don't skip tracks on.

  • i dont think nat gets enough credit for how great he really was, if it was wasnt for him, we wouldnt have awsome songs to play like this.

  • jazz es paz

  • Dang, Cannonball is incredible! I love 2:16 . Thanks for posting this !

  • Many people call that the "THE Cannonball Lick"..

Play through high B C C# D with your left hand, while rapidly trilling the high E key with your right hand.

  • What a brilliant band. Cannonball was one of the greatest improvisers EVER

  • what do you call what he did at 2:25-2:29??

  • @phillipreid123

Many people call that the "The Cannonball Lick"..

Works nicely over a G7 chord and leading into a blues lick in that key.

  • @dzazi yeah true man and some people do it starting on a Bb

  • Comment removed

  • IS THAT 9TH WONDER ON BASE?

  • Such a badass set. And awesome song, of course.

  • @ Tenorsaxbreed how many videos did you post the same pretentious message (I only saw it on two but didn't wanna check for more). You cant make claims of better than anyone. Its all relative to the player and their ability and Coltrane isn't even playing in this session. Im Just sayin respect the players that got jazz where it is today they didn't have it so easily spelled out as jazz musicians today do. I have no doubt you can probubly play as good coltrane But the diff is he was a pioneer.

  • tell it to me joe

  • im 21...and im better than Coltrane.... i also love Gucci man and his ability to speak of deep meaningful life experiences....I love Go-Go and its ability to touch your heart everytime that congo hits, it allows oneself to openly express their animalistic character...I love sex and INTENSE laughter almost the same...I love how most pop songs circulate around three chords....FUCK Kenny G...peace and have a good day!

  • @TenorSaxBreed World definitely doesn't need more musicians like you, already too many.

  • @TenorSaxBreed I don't care if you play 500 notes more than Coltrane on any give song, he was something you'll never be- an Innovator

  • @bondiga10 I checked out TenorSaxBreed's page his playing is certainly not up to any pros standards

  • @mustachio10 lol its meant to be ignorant...i just like the flaming comments i get everytime i do it YAY! ur # 243

    JOHN COLTRANE IS MUSIC gOD!!

  • @mustachio10 but u got to admit...after the coltrane and cannonball part...the rest is tru LOL

  • @TenorSaxBreed ur such a dumb fag i seen your vidieo's and you suck you play all crab how dare you disrespect cannonball and trane like dat you dumb fuck

  • @kello224 SILENCE.....u cockrider....see me...ur probably a fatass...go workout...go suck cock you loser

  • @TenorSaxBreed what do you call what he did at 2:25-2-29?? help plz

  • @TenorSaxBreed wow your a douche

  • @TenorSaxBreed I don't think you should be leaving hater comments about Cannonball saying you're better than him and Coltrane it's very ignorant

  • Cannonball plays this one for "Big~Ed"!

  • to Ocnoreen. I believe Latif is much better known in Europe where, owing to his aversion to racism in America, he elected to spend the bulk of peerforming career.

  • Excellent!

  • Greeeeeat Yusef playing. :)

Want to know why his name is not so loud in jazz music. :)

  • someone can tell me that mouthpiece used cannonball?

  • @jon93099 he used a Meyer New York mouthpiece with an added brass band around the shank i think

  • @andifyouhadtwocoats you're a fucking idiot...this guys's a damn machine and you can't even spell so STFU

  • @DigitalHamSandwich Cannoball is a sweetie, but not a ferry good musishian.

Are you gay? Than I would like to meet you with my BIG Bubuzela

    Warmest kisses,

    Rab Hines

  • This music is like breathing, like flowing water. I could listen to this all day and not tire of it.

  • @univibe23 great stuff
