@Appeltaartislekkr Hey een nederlander! Kewl, dit is Violin Concerto No.1 Op. 6 van Niccolò Paganini. Ben er alleen niet zeker van of Op. 6 bij de titel hoort of niet.
I dont understand why he is so digging in to this violin (maybe the best one). He is stifle the sound. In my opinion Menuhin or Vodička perform this piece more naturaly
to play like these folks you have to start at a young age and play through hours of your life, dont go out and play with the other kids but practice. (eight hours a day is a start) and then you play for years till the music sheeted is not necessary becuase youve played it countless times you know every note, and after you know a couple 48 lengthy concertos by heart your halfway there.
There is talk not about style about violin Ciaccone II "Guarneri del gesu 1742" It's about competition. In competition they want to play from originale sheet and if you win in this competition you can Play in this violin. He play from the urtext HV 450. (some body can play better than he but not in competition.)
True...some get play Il Cannon because they win the competition--Some play it because they are chosen by the committee because of the sheer excellence of their work..Mintz was chosen for overall excellence--as was Regina Carter.
Just another thought--I think it is much more of an honor to be chosen to play this violin for over all excellence rather than competition of a couple of prepared pieces--this is the supreme honor.
Somewhere here on YT Mintz gives an interview about playing this in Pag's style--I wish I had saved it. He has copies of Pag's original manuscript and says it has Arabaic notations on it, saying that Pag must have been Italian/Arabic..he actually put a tremendous amount of thought into the presentation of this performance. The interview was done in Japan..I'll have to see if I can find it again.
If you listen right here there are portions that have Arabic flavor..so I think Mintz was right on the money in his research--like at 2:29 and several other places if you listen for it, it really stands out.
No I did not get time to look...it's on here somewhere in Japanese and translated into English...so apparently it was a press interview. If you prowl a bit you will find it..as I said I have just been here on short bursts as of late because I have been so busy
@TwelfthRoot2 Just went prowling around for it and don't see it...it was an interview in Japan, so it was translated, but a great interview..but has been sometime since I watched it...he was giving details about how much work he put into the research of Paganini and this concerto..it was absolutely fascinating..I regret I didn't mark it or go back to listen a second time..
can you imagine the voice on this violin if it were played constantly? It's sad that it is not played daily just to exercise its voice and maintain clarity. You can hear it hit just a little cloudy tone now and then that is would be normal for a violin that has not been played enough-the jazz violinist who recorded with it Regina Carter said it took her weeks of playing on it hard to get its "throat clear" but she also said it was magnificent.
Pan Minz stacił wiele ze swojej młodzieńczej werwy i zaangażowania. Sprawia wrażenie, jakby bardziej przejmował się trudnymi pasażami, niż samą muzyką. Niemniej jednak wciąż prezentuje wysoki poziom.
This violin seems to have larger plates than most violins, the amount of resistance to produce an even tone might be more than usual but the volume and tone are also magnified.
what an honour to play such a jewel of a violin!

Not the best of his performances. Look at him in early years. But I always liked his hands. So natural.

idk... this paganini doesn't have the italian style that it should have.
hmmmm im not sure if i like this one as much as others
jkmylol 3 years ago
what's the italian style? Out of tune double stops perhaps? This performance is in "Israeli/american" style which is good enough for me!!

Third variation in Paganini´s 24 th caprice (octaves) sounds more like Arabian than Italian music..
