Czernowitz wurde 1408 das erste Mal erwähnt. 143 Jahre gehörte die Bukowina, ihre beste zeit, zur Donaumonarchie. Aus Dankbarkeit wurde am 2.10.2009 ein Denkmal des Kaisers Franz Josef I in Czernowitz eingeweiht. Er hat viel für die Stadt und das Land getan, vor allem für die Juden.
1918 war es dann vorbei und die Rumänen kamen. 1940 überfielen die Russen die Nordbukowina und damit kam der Untergang.
