I also find it funny that the Chinese are all predicting that it will overtake the US economy is the next few decades...well I remember in the 1980s that it was predicted that the Japanese would overtake the US economy is the next decade...well look at where the Japanese are right now.

Yeah, and it was not Mao who did it...it was Deng who had the sense to see that Maoism was a failure and introduced capitalism to China.

Mao was a good fighter but a poor statesman who fucked up China.

In fact, Mao jailed and tortured Deng since Deng tried to advise Mao sensibly in how to run China.

And China became a superpower not because of Maoism but capitalism...not because of Mao but because of Deng.

So Chang Kai Shek was right all along.

@Bander1 While I may not fully agree with you on your other points, I agree that Mao, together with his predecessors such as the last Ming emperor who recalled Zheng He maritime expedition, the backward-thinking Manchu dynasty and finally Maoism/Communism by closing its door on the world and on international trade,all these fools threw China backwards many times over. From being the top economy in the world before the mid 1800s, it became a sick man of Asia. Now it has to do a lot of catch-ups.

What China has it borrowed or stole from the West, it does not create. Autocratic governments remain static and do not enjoy social or technological progress. Chinese still want to live in "Gold Mountain" USA.

The Japanese invasion in 1937 was also crucial as Chang was on the verge of destroying the CCP but the Japanese invasion interrupted this.

Also contrary to what the CCP would say...the KMT was at the forefront of fighting the Japs and defending China. The KMT fought like 90 percent of the battles vs. the Japanese. The CCP only did taht hundred regiments offensive in 1940 but that was it. The CCP mostly hid and did some guerilla attacks on the Japs.

The children go to school from 7 am until 10:30 pm at night, and they still have to do their homework. On Christmas day at 12 pm you could still see some people working outside in the icy -25 degree cold weather, including new year. they are working and studying extremely hard day and night. You have to see it to believe it. And it's considered to be normal. They are also humble and friendly.
