What a great video! Peter Allen singing and dancing. Who could ask for more. Well, the more would be Peter Allen and Bernadette Peters together. Wow! Thank you so much for sharing this look at music history. I wish the "Irving Berlin Tribute, Part 1" was still on You Tube. It showed Peter at his dancing best. . Pam
This is almost 30 years ago. I see Bernadette Peters in such a brilliant performance and I ask myself, "Who could do something like that today?" And I reply, "Bernadette Peters."
@Goomgam You're so right Goomgam. I've seen her in 5 productions! She's never let me down: "Gypsy", "Little Night Music","Sunday in the park with George","Into the woods","Song and Dance". I'm so hoping to see her in "Follies". I hear her version of "Buddy'S Eyes" is glorious!
Holy Ziegfeld Follies! AMAZING! Probably the closest the Oscars ever came to recreating the great MGM musicals or Ziegfeld Follies. Kudos to Peters and Allen for my gosh - one long routine of hitting their marks and notes virtually flawlessly (live to billions of TV viewers I might add - good lord - their nerves must have been made of steel!). I never realized how well Allen could dance. And bravo to the production team and choreorgrapher! Thanks so much for posting this-what a treat!
Bernadette is great - but I prefer Judy Garland's version of "what'll I do"... this entire production number is pretty amazing though. It was exciting to see the Oscars this year return to class and showbiz.
The compilation is absolutely mesmerising, and, of course, honours some of Berlin's greatest works with that larger than life choreography and staging. Also, a really smart choice for the closing number.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for posting this- it's definitely valuable.
I love the Cole Porter-type shots....just like the old musicals!! Thanks for posting!! Irving Berlin was the best...the only contemporary is Stephen Sondheim!!!

I hate to be negative. But you have to say things, when things are true. Peter Allen sucked.

Man, the choreographer and the set designer deserve a LONG bow for this one!
Back when an Oscars number was a work of beauty.
