Wow!!! I literally spent years in that store in the early 90's. The owners also had a stand at the Calgary flea market...... They had soooo much stock it was crazy. If you were looking for mainstream records they were easy as crap to find because they labeled it but the really really cool stuff was kinda hidden. They werent really like your typical indie or collectors record store. They didnt grade anything or put the cool stuff in a display case. You mined for gold and paid nothing for it.
jeez this is fantastic, I would be an old man before I left this building, as I was watching this for minute i could smell a vintage records around me...weird!
i really sucks most his is never heard cause its not main stream enough to get on comercial/talk/radio lol i am disabled an dont get out much but loved records as a younger an the ones you have highlighted are amazing works of art here nicely done thank you..im preety happyt to play along to some this music on my guitar/fusion/ambient *_*
Wonderful store for anyone with a passion for music. I found some gems in the classical music department, those are always in pristine shape, as classical music lovers take good care of their records.
Very cool video, but the best of it all is hearing your lovely voice babe, major turn on. Love you! :D
Recordland=the Lotus Eaters....wow! Thanks, Doc! I have that Pink Faeries re-issue and dig it. I'm pretty sure there's a boot floating around with them and Hawkwind playing live together as a "supergroup". Am I right? You probably have it. Ha! Awesome video, man!
Both bands played the same bill may times, as did Twink. Surely something exists with them jamming together. I did hear a bootleg by a band calling themselves Pinkwind a few years ago at Recordland, but the sound/recording quality was horrid. Other than that, Magic Muscle were a decent band featuring former Hawkwind bassist Adrian Shaw, Simon House (of Hawkwind, Third Ear Band & High Tide), Twink (drums ex Fairies), Hugh Gower (guitarist for The Records), and Rod Goodway.
was the store there in 97 .. i was living in vancouver for about 2 months and had a chance to stay in calgary and opted out . should i have ? was the store there in 97 ? looks like a great store
The store opened in 1985, 2 blocks from their current location on 9th avenue SE. Pre-Recordland (late 70's/early-mid 80's) there were many other great used record stores here as well; The Sound Exchange, The Record Store, Hot Wax, to name a few. Hot Wax is still in the district of Kensington, but now sell a lot of what I call filler; Billy Joel, Loverboy, Donna Summer, Fleetwood Mac etc. We also have Melodia Records, which is mainly filler, reissues & indie.
Yeah........wow, could spends hours (not to mention lots of $ !!) in that store!! We have a few really nice record shops here in the STL area, but I don't think anything could quite compare with that! I used to like to go A to Z when I went vinyl or CD shopping.......it looks like that might take a couple of days to pull off there......thanks for this, heaven indeed!!!
Ok Doc, Come clean with us, This is really your basement where the vinyl treasures of Canada are stored. Amazing, I speak for all of us in the VInyl Community when I say, Oh My God, I am blown away. I would be seriously broke all the time. Thanks for the Awesome video. Does this store have a web site ? Thanks Again.
No website that I'm aware of...not yet anyways. His two sons have been asking him to do this for sometime, but we won't hold our breath. It would definitely mean hiring someone full-time to handle the online stuff....and that in itself is a huge responsibly with shipping, accurate grading, photographing etc. If something does get off the ground, I'll let you guys know :)
I may go back next weekend. I'm sure it'll still be hidden in that miscellaneous "P" section. Unless you're able to hop on a plane between now and Saturday, hehehe. By the way, it was a 2002 Polydor reissue...still makes a nice player copy though, as I rarely play my original UK Pink Fairies pressings. I may do a video displaying all three studio LP's at some point in time :)
Please check out the Part 2 video. I actually met up with the guitarist from "Troyka" while browsing!
Yes, after buying and selling vinyl fanatically for so many years one develops a keen eye I suppose ;)
By the way...I just checked, and Polydor did re-issue that Pink Fairies "Kings Of Oblivion" album ( @ 15:57) on vinyl in 2002. The sealed copy I held in my hand was that reissue.
OMFG!!! I always heard it was true but never believed it until now...there is a heaven!! LOL!!! I would go in and come out a week later still not being able to see it all. You're a very lucky Dr...Thanks for the video of Heaven!! Peace
"Heaven, I’m in heaven, And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak"..."Oh heaven, heaven is a place, a place where nothing, nothing ever happens"..."Is there a heaven?...I'd like to think so"...it's called RECORDLAND ;)
Yeah...they have at the very least 200,000 vinyl LP's in the shelves, with at least 3X that stored in a large facility behind the store...I could dig there for hours no problem ;)
Please check out "Diggin' Through Recordland Part 2".
