This is a good video. I am a casual fan of Sonic. I do not like the pairing of Sally with Sonic, as her character is annoying. As a matter of interest, Sonic does not want to be King and confined, so its not such a good idea to pair him off. Amy would make a better choice, accepts Sonic just the way he is.

And what's really interesting is that in the comics (which is where the merger of canons is occurring), Amy originally respected Sally and the fact that Sonic was with her, but when the breakup occurred, Amy was told by "Dear Ally" (castle-bound and emotionally wrought Sally, under the guise of an advice-giver) to basically give up her dream on being with Sonic, because Sally was sure that Sonic still loved her and as Ian Flynn has shown, Sonic does still love Sally, regardless of said breakup.

But still you mention scenes in the comics. As a closing statement see one of my newest replies and there were scenes and parts in the games with Amy. Before the opening of Black Knight Sonic was about to go out with Amy. Amy eventually doesn't act very stalkerish and helps out in Chronicles. And in Unleashed you can accept a dating invitation.

It doesn't help that Sega just gives Sonic and friends to whomever wants them (why they thought 4Kids was a good dubbing choice for Sonic X, I'll never know [especially when the only good dub 4Kids did right was the early seasons of Pokemon before Misty left, IMHO]).

I wouldn't say that Sega is a third party basically. Therefore neutral to the companies, like Capcom. Even if most of the Megaman titles are on Nintendo systems but is not owned by them and is on the PSP too. If anything the company that would own Sonic would be Nintendo. But that's like saying Rare still owns Donkey Kong and Starfox because they made the games while Nintendo owned the concepts, which is what Sega has to Sonic. And remember Sega still has the games that survived the Dreamcast.

One question though Amy's redesigned look, being probably the look she had in Adventure was where she was "aged" and made to look older, is that what you mean? Plus, Sally herself was utilized first in Britain's Sonic the Comic in 1992. That lead to her being considered for SatAM (after her cameo in AoStH episode "Christmas Blast" of course, which was delayed until 1996). That proves that Sally predated Amy for practically a year (since the Shogakuken 1992 manga that starred Sonic and Amy was not authorized by Sega like Britain's Sonic The Comic or Archie's American Sonic comic were/are).

An interesting note is that Sally and Bunnie cameoed in Sonic Spinball, a game by the people behind Sonic 2 and this game came around the same time as Amy's debut as a Sega of Japan aquisition from manga company, Shogakuken (who had previously owned Amy prior to 1993). It's also interesting that the Sonic LIVE stage show from 1993-1998 also supported SonSal, because as you must recall, Amy was eight when she debuted and so, thus she couldn't be with Sonic until Sega redesigned her.

Sonic and Shadow together can be explained just like how DC Comics made Batman and Robin seem a tad homosexual towards each other during the Adam West years. The reason Sonic's in the bind he's in right now is because Sega--with Archie's comic as the example--is trying to merge two completely seperate canons (West and East)--each with their own pairing and audience (SonSal and SonAmy)--and in so doing, that makes Sonic look bad.

Honestly this explaination is the most different I've heard but the only time I've seen any merging was in Sonic Chronicles but in Sega's own way. Like the Nocturnus clan did resemble the Dark Legion. But other than some parts Sega never really tried merging. Nintendo once tried it when adding Fara Phoenix from the Nintendo Power comics to Starfox 2 but instead added Miyu and Fay even though the game was never released. Besides Archie made more than 1 pairing, there was Mina and Bunnie too.

And, to be perfectly blunt, the audiences themselves are also divided via generational time spans, with the SonSal fans being in their 20's-30's and the SonAmy fans largely being pre-teen to teenage. The young fans want the older fans to step aside so SonAmy can exist in all the canons, but since Sally was established as Sonic primary first love interest (she debuted in 1992, with SatAM starting in 1993 and ending five days before the release of Sonic CD), we older fans won't leave so easily.

I know that some of the younger generations can support older pairings, but generally, many of the fights between the shippers is not just due to who came first or who is better with whom, but rather in terms of the time period in which a viewer grew up. Since we of the 80's/90's grew up on the Jaleel White Sonic with Sally as his love interest, to see those younger kids in favor of Ryan Drummod or Jason Griffeth as Sonic with Amy stirs the pot a bit.
