Ok.. I got to say this dude is a PRO. If you re-watch the video, you will see how he had full control of that saw - played it like a violin. No safety equipment needed. Why - most idiots with chaps and full safety gear would have hit the dirt and dulled the chain. Did anyone notice that he let the weight of the log finish the cut? Well done!

Nice saw. Not wearing hearing protection kicks ass because you can hear the tree cracking. I'd rather have hearing damage than get rolled over by a 300# log. Some people are just envious about the size of their guide bars, ya know?

Gotta love the 066/660! They are great right out of the box. The 650 isn't too bad either. That oak looks like what we call "post oak" around here which is a type of white oak.

I never cut myself but managed to grab the right pant-leg 3 times in the last couple of years, all at the end of day when I was tired. I started wearing chaps (Stihl camo) recently along with plugs, safety glasses and boots as always. Hey, we thought handguard-chainbrakes were just in-the-way early on, I appreciate them now.. Man, that saw does sound right!

You have to cut them into rounds before they are split. He is bucking the wood into rounds to split them later.

personally, I think porting your saw is a waste of time. lots of guys at work do it and I've tried both Stihl and Huskies.. when I was younger I even considered doing it to my saws, then I grew up. like any tool used for cutting wood, it's all in the sharpening.

Good job! Looks like you take care of your chain and keep it sharp. Thats a man sized piece of wood and that saw took care of it with ease. All the power in the world won't cut unless you have a sharp chain.

i miss using a chainsaw i cut them with a harvester now but when i last used a ms660 i took the spark arrester out of the magnum muffle then on the carb turn the low screw out so it smoked alittle at idle,turn the high srew in(not recommended by stilh) just past standard setting,dont use full thottle unless under load at half throttle it sounds like its 4stoke while cutting at full rev its a bad ass saw good vid

Oak is a hardwood. Look it up. I have a bout 5 300lb rounds of Valley Oak. They had been sitting up in the Sierra Foothills for about 5 years until I snatched those bad girls up. The wood is over 100 years old! But I can't split it with just one chop of the old axe! I even have to use the wedge and sledge hammer. So Valley Oak is a hardwood. So is eucaliptus. I spent a whole summer trying to split about 10 rounds of that crap! I think I lost about 15 pounds trying too. But it was worth it campin
